FAZER LOGINChristie’s POV
Kendra finally walked out of the room, her heels clicking against the hardwood until the sound faded into the distance. I let out a long breath and looked at Nima. She was in a deep, heavy sleep, and her vitals were holding steady for the moment. There was nothing more I could do until the stabilizers arrived. I decided to leave her to rest. I needed to move, or I was going to lose my mind thinking about my lab. I stepped out into the hallway, intending to take a walk through the mansion. It was extremely gigantic. I hadn't gone very far when a member of the domestic staff stepped out from a side room. She bowed her head slightly. "Doctor Christie? The Master of the house gave us strict orders to take care of you while he is away. A meal has been prepared. Please, follow me." I realized then that my stomach was knotting with hunger. I hadn't eaten since before the ball began at my mother's house. I abandoned my plan to explore the halls and followed her down a wide staircase to a sun-drenched dining area. The food they served was fresh and hot, far better than the cold scraps I usually ate between shifts. After I finished, the woman led me to a room where she said I could stay. When she opened the door, I stopped in my tracks. The room was extremely large and wealthy. The bed was draped in heavy silk, and the furniture was carved from dark wood that looked centuries old. It was nothing like the cramped, drafty room I always had to stay in back at home, where my mother made sure I felt like an unwanted guest. I sat on the edge of the bed for a moment, feeling the softness of the mattress. It felt strange to be treated with this much care in a house where I had been brought against my will. But I couldn't stay still for long. Nima would need proper nutrition when she woke up. I left the room and tried to find my way back toward the service wing. I wanted to meet the staff responsible for Nima’s meals so I could recommend a specific diet that would be appropriate for her recovery. I navigated through two long, silent corridors before I found the kitchen. I pushed open the swinging doors, but the professional request I had prepared died in my throat. Kendra was leaning against a marble counter, a glass of water in her hand. She looked at me and let out a sharp laugh. "Still wandering around, Doctor Girl?" she asked, her eyes trailing over my clothes. "I thought you’d be hiding under the covers in that expensive room by now. You don't belong in this kitchen any more than you belong in this house." "I'm here to speak to the cooks," I said, keeping my voice steady. "Nima needs a very specific diet to help her body process the treatment I’m about to administer. It’s a medical necessity." Kendra stepped away from the counter, blocking the path to the pantry where the chefs were working. "I told you before. I am the one who manages this household. You don't come in here and give orders to the staff who have served this family for generations." "I am not giving orders," I argued. "I am making a medical recommendation for a sick woman. Why are you trying to stop me from doing what is best for Nima?" Kendra didn't answer. She just stood her ground, her expression full of a cold, territorial anger. She wouldn't let me accomplish what I had set out to do, and the staff behind her kept their heads down, clearly too afraid of her to intervene. I realized then that there was no point in fighting with her. It would only cause more stress in a house that was already tense. The wise thing to do was to leave the kitchen and go back to the room they had given me. I turned around without saying another word and walked back through the maze of hallways. Was there always an enemy waiting for me to show up everywhere I went? Because why does this Kendra woman particularly hate me?Christie's POV Someone had carried me to bed. That was the first thing I registered when I opened my eyes. I had sat down on the couch in the hallway outside Nima's room to rest my legs for a minute, and then nothing. I was out. And now I was in the guest room, under a heavy blanket, with no memory of walking here.Lyon. It had to be him.I sat up and pushed my hair back. The room was bright with morning light. On the armchair near the window, someone had laid out a fresh set of clothes. Comfortable trousers, a soft grey top, folded neatly. I stared at them for a second.Nobody had ever done that for me. Not once in my life.I changed quickly, then splashed water on my face and went straight to Nima's room. The door was already slightly open.I pushed it wider and stopped.Lyon was in the chair beside his mother's bed, his head dropped forward, his arms resting on his knees. Asleep. He was still in the same clothes from last night, jacket gone, shirt rumpled at the sleeves. His face
Lyon's POVThe guard's words were still hanging in the air when I was already moving.Three humans. And they were with cameras.I didn't take anyone with me as I headed in the reported direction. The moment I stepped out of the tree cover and into the open, all three of them froze. Young men, maybe early twenties. One had a camera around his neck. Another had his phone raised, recording. The third one was pointing a flashlight at my perimeter wall like he was on a school trip.“Hunters?” Obsidian growled inside me.No. Just idiots."You followed my truck," I said.Nobody answered. The camera light was still blinking red."Put it down," I said quietly. It came down fast.I looked at all three of them, taking my time. I wasn't angry yet. Angry would come if they gave me a reason."This is private land. You're on it without permission. Whatever you thought you were going to find out here tonight, you didn't find it. Go home."The tall one in the middle cleared his throat. "We just want
Lyon's POV “Nothing. I was just having time alone,” she responded. Her eyes went to the small bag I was holding. “And yeah, you brought the exact bag here. I'm glad you're back quite early.” My eyes stayed on her. The room was dark except for the moonlight hitting the floor, and I could see the damp tracks on her cheeks before she wiped them away with a frantic motion. "I’m not crying. I mean, I wasn't crying before you opened the door," she said. Her voice was thin and a little shaky. I took another step into the room. I had just driven like a madman to her lab and back, dodging all kinds of trucks and cars to get these stabilizers, and the first thing I found was her breaking apart. "I have eyes, Christie. I saw you." She shifted quickly, nearly tripping over her bag. She gave a small, forced laugh that sounded hollow. "It’s just... a patient I was handling a while ago sent me a message. They said they are finally fine and haven't been happier in their entire life.
Christie's POVThe moment I stepped back into the massive bedroom, all I could think of was Lyon. He was probably on his way back now. It was late. I didn't realize how much time had passed since I showed up, but it was late now. It didn't look like I was going to leave this place today. Well, I didn't exactly want to leave…. because Lyon? No!What was I thinking. “I'm a doctor. I'm here to do my job,” I said to myself. I didn't sound convincing enough. “Well, I was brought against my will but I must keep things professional.”I nodded. “I can't keep entertaining nasty thoughts about the man who literally kidnapped me.”I walked over to the bed and sat on the edge. I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone, noticing the battery icon was a thin red line.It was almost completely dead. I looked around the room for a charger, but I didn't see one. Before the screen could go dark, a notification appeared. It was a voice recording from my mother.I hesitated for a second, m

Christie’s POVKendra came in, but she stood by the door, wiping tears from her eyes. "I have a problem," I said as I looked up at Lyon, who was standing at the foot of the bed like a guardian. "The refrigerated stabilizers. I didn't grab them from the cooling unit. I was so panicked when you took me that I didn't get to take them. I cant administer anything at the final stage of the treatment without them.""I’m going back for them," he said. His voice was low. "I’ll get into the lab and get what you need. You just give me directions around the place.”“Okay, great. Once you get into the lab, you're going to just walk straight from the door. The refrigerator is right opposite the door. Fetch the green bag.”He nodded. And then he got a little too close to me again."Christie, listen to me," he said, his voice dropping an octave."Don't try to escape into the woods while I'm gone. It isn't safe for you out there, especially not now. Please, just stay in this house."I furrowed my
