Vanessa

I stared at the ceiling, completely still.

Alec was still between my thighs. His head rested against my lap. His breaths were warm, and unhurried. Every time he exhaled, it sent a wicked tingling that made my toes curl.

I couldn’t believe this just happened.

I couldn’t believe I just let this happen.

My legs trembled. My core throbbed with an ache I didn’t have words for. I had never felt anything like that in my life. Alec hadn’t just touched me. He had devoured me. Worshipped me. Broken me open with his mouth and hands like I was a secret he’d waited too long to uncover.

I should’ve screamed at him to leave the moment I felt that bond flare. But I didn’t. I wanted it. I begged for it in every moan. And now, I was lying here, dazed and spent while the man I wasn’t supposed to want breathed against my inner thigh.

This was more than a mistake. It was a declaration. And it would come back to burn me. My chest ached from the guilt curling like smoke inside me.

I reached down and

Vanessa I woke up, the strange weight in my hand pulling me back to reality. There he was—Alec, his hand on my body like carved stone. I blinked against the morning light filtering through the window. My eyes shifted upward, catching sight of him beside me, peaceful in sleep. A smile crept across my lips, and warmth bloomed in my chest, despite the stiffness in my hand. There was a quiet beauty in this stolen moment, with our bodies tangled in the intimacy of shared space. Without thinking, I tilted my head back, letting my hand drift over his chest, my fingers tracing patterns on his skin. My breath caught as I inhaled deeply, pressing my nose gently to the curve of his collarbone. The scent was intoxicating—faint traces of his cologne mixed with the natural musk of his skin—and then the bond. It stirred a wave of delicious pleasure that radiated through my body. I loved the connection and reveled in it. I memorized every detail of the moment. My face nestled closer into the crook o

AlecMy feet dragged heavily across the floor, echoing my exhaustion. The weight of the day clung to my shoulders. Decisions had been made, duties fulfilled, and the constant pressure of living up to the Alpha’s name loomed large. I needed a bath.I reached the bathroom, turned on the taps, and filled the bathtub with steaming water. Already anticipating some relief, I sprinkled bath salts into the water, releasing a minty scent, and lowered myself into the tub. The hot water immediately wrapped around my tired muscles, pulling the tension from my knotted shoulders. A sigh escaped my lips as I leaned my head back against the edge.My eyes fluttered closed, and the world narrowed down to the sound of water lapping against the tub and the heat seeping deep into my aching bones. Then, a sharp trill broke the silence. My phone was ringing somewhere beyond the bathroom door. My eyes cracked open, irritation blooming in my chest. It wasn't worth the effort to drag myself to the bedroom just

Vanessa I stomped into the bathroom, running across the marble tiles. My breath, wrapped in anger and pain, came in sharp bursts as I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I paused, savoring the image. It took a lot of self-control not to snap and beat myself up. After all, she was just bitter. And I was stronger than her.I wanted to do something more—something that would get her into trouble. I began tearing through the contents under the sink until, somewhere beneath, I found a first aid box. I yanked it free, scattering its contents across the vanity, and found a strip of adhesive bandage. Drawing up a comically oversized 1.4, I pressed it to the gray bruises on my ear and temple. Then I headed out, in search of an audience.A few servants stood near the door—the head maid and several others. Their eyes flicked toward me, then quickly away. No one asked questions. Perhaps they were all concluding in their minds that this was the punishment I deserved—for the sins of my father, a

Vanessa I blinked against the morning light streaming through the window. The first thing I noticed was his scent. It was strong, laced with that edge that only belonged to Alec. But he wasn’t here.I sat up. The other side of the bed was creased. I reached out and touched it. It was still warm and shaped like someone had been there.I leaned closer and inhaled. There was no mistaking it.Did he sneak in last night? I flushed. How could I have slept through that? If he was here, that meant I’d missed the chance to touch him. To hold him, and to feel his arms around me in the quiet of night.I hated wanting it. Hated the disappointment that followed. I traced the blanket where his body had rested. I sounded ridiculous, like a girl nursing a crush. I shook my head, throwing off the covers. “Get a grip,” I muttered.I moved through my routine: washing my face, brushing my teeth, tying my hair back.I was heading downstairs when I heard Nina’s voice outside near the kennel. I remembered

AlecThe council wanted stability. The people wanted tradition. Someone had to take the title of Luna.No matter what my body or my bond told me, it could never be Vanessa.Even if I kept Vanessa tucked away in secret corners, even if I stole moments behind closed doors, the pack needed a Luna. They would never accept her. Not even if I was willing to try.I didn’t want to, but I had no choice. So I forced myself to think and act like an Alpha. Maya ticked all the right boxes: political connection, noble bloodline, public approval. She was safe. Not like Vanessa, who was unpredictable, alluring, and dangerous. Maya would be thrilled. She’d squeal, maybe throw herself into my arms. I'd played the scene in my head a dozen times before finally deciding to make it real.I walked into Maya’s wing with a jewelry box in my hand, one of Gary’s newest sets, encrusted with black opals and diamond-tipped chainwork. She liked expensive gifts. When I gave her the news, she lit up like a child

Vanessa I pulled a woolem dark shawl over my head and made my way toward Olga's quarters. The air carried an unusual chill, like a warning. My gut told me to turn back. I could lie, and say I was needed in the Alpha’s quarters.I’d thought of skipping this meeting because I hadn’t done what Olga asked me to. I couldn't do it. Skipping wouldn’t change anything. Olga always found out.Besides, this was the week of cleansing, the sacred tradition ...that had held my loyalty to her since I was thirteen. The perfect chances when I could’ve done what she asked had passed. Like when I delivered Maya four grapefruits, arranged on a fancy tray. The poison could have gone unnoticed. But I did nothing.Because no matter what lies Olga whispered in my ear, I couldn’t bring myself to harm a child. Especially one still in the womb. When I entered Olga’s chamber, the strong smell of pepper and smoked broth hit me first. She was sitting cross-legged on a mat, hunched over a steaming wooden bowl,

Alec She said it like it was a challenge. Like I hadn’t just had my hand wrapped around her waist, aching to take her apart again.“Spar with me,” she repeated. She'd flipped the entire conversation in seconds, like an expert driver skidding across ice, then somehow regaining control with a grin on her face. One moment I was seconds from kissing her against the damn cupboard; the next, she was taunting me with a fight. My jaw ticked as I stared at her. I didn’t want to spar. I wanted to fuck. I wanted her panting beneath me, moaning into my mouth, screaming my name like she did hours ago. “I don’t get it,” I said, folding my arms. “Being alone with me clearly drives you insane. But you want to spar, in public?”She shrugged, casual as sin. “We could go to the woods.”She was serious. The defiance in her eyes made my blood stir in a different way. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to wrestle her or press her against a tree.“Fine,” I muttered, stepping closer. “You want it that bad? Meet me

Vanessa I was going to be in trouble. Serious Alpha-grade trouble. And Goddess, it was going to be so worth it.From the second I walked away from Alec in the garden, I knew I’d poked the bear. Calling Zachary my boyfriend was the verbal equivalent of slapping him across the face. But the way Alec had stiffened with barely restrained rage had been delicious.I could still picture the look in his eyes. He hated that I’d dared to entertain someone else, even if it was just a joke. He hated that I had that kind of power over him, even if I wasn’t supposed to. And honestly? That kind of power was intoxicating. He was always playing control games with me, pushing me, pulling me, making me feel like I belonged to him while he still danced around Maya. So I gave him a taste of his own medicine.Still, I wasn’t blind. Alec wasn’t the kind of man who took things lightly. He wasn’t going to let this slide. I’d feel the heat soon. He'd make sure I paid for it. And weirdly, I was kind of looking
