Chapter 15: Abduction

A home that had been deserted stood in such a calm manner as if it had deliberately decided to be alone as if having people was an unnecessary luxury for the property.

Before the varnish was applied with fine bristles, the flooring had been a highly polished parquet, with individual blocks carefully put and sanded to a smooth finish. After the varnish was applied, the floors had been varnished.

The window frames were sturdy, the walls were rock solid, and the glass was unbroken and triple-glazed. In general, the area had the appearance of a film set or a location that was awaiting the arrival of life.

The only tip-off was the smell, well, that and the dust, but mostly the smell. It smelled musty and dry, but opening the doors and windows wouldn't have helped since the place was sealed up tight.
