Camille's POV

*****

I had no idea if it was the raw pain I had seen in his eyes or the sadness I had tasted in those lips, but I found myself wanting more. Whatever made the goddess fix such hormones in wolves was just beyond me. Right here, I cared about nothing more than being with Vikron, in his world, feeling the raw emotions he tucked away so carefully beneath all those facades he created to keep everyone at bay. I wanted to ease his pain.

But I could wish as he pulled away—his eyes had a softness I had never seen before. As quick as they had come, they had disappointed, leaving behind an emptiness I couldn't describe.

“Camille, relax,” he said quietly.

“I am relaxed,” but I could feel my eyes shutting down like a computer.

His hand was on my neck. He was atrophying the area where he had left his mark.

“Let's go. We're done here. We got what we came for,” he ordered, as he pulled me up, carrying me like I was about to disappear into the darkness if he let me down.

My mind was ra

Camille’s POV ***** “Hey,” Skyla said as she walked into the room, causing me to startle slightly. “Hey. Do you need something?” “Nah. I figured out I needed to talk about something with you. Hope you don't mind?” “I hope this isn't about the kiss or the mark?” I asked, pulling my shirt slightly backwards for her to see. She laughed wearily. “Not exactly. Or maybe not today.” Exhaling deeply, she nudged closer, as if about to reveal some secret that only my ears needed to hear. “When alpha Vikron marked you, do you remember anything happening during the, you know...” She tilted her head slightly toward it. “Anything? Like, what exactly? Was there something I was supposed to notice?” “No, Camille,” she replied, standing up. “Did you feel a change in your body or mind or something? Because I definitely heard you growl in a way I've never heard a wolf growl before, and you're yet to shift. So, the puzzle’s not quite fitting.” “I have no idea what you're talking about. In fact,

You're just as foolish as that mother of yours," Alpha Loeka barked as he flung Devon into the wall.“I had everything under control,” Devon protested.“Well, it's clear now how much control you had. You know why I never ask you to handle most of the pack's business? This!” Loeka pointed angrily at the floor.“Just one mistake, father. I made just one mistake.” Devon's head was bowed, and he was stifling his rage.“One stupid mistake enough to set a war you have no intention of being involved in. Your stupid mistake brought this to my table.” Loeka swung the papers on his table toward Devon. “If you wanted to do something to mark your worth, you do the very basic thing! It's called P L A N N I N G!” he snarled.“At least your brother has the common sense to know that. You should have involved him.” Loeka sat on his seat, his hands trembling uncontrollably.Devon stood. “Isn't that always the problem, father? You think Conrad is better off. Always comparing me to him. You want me to li

Camille’s POV Devon was back. I didn't need a sixth sense to have that figured out. I heard the movement of the door even before his footsteps.“Seventy-two two hours and no one is willing to share you, princess. Should I say that is rather intriguing or heart-wrenching?” he pulled the mask off my face.“What would you say, princess?”“You disgust me, Devon!”His head fell back as he laughed hysterically, only stopping abruptly to glare at me with those vengeful eyes. “How could I disgust my mate so much she has to spill such venom before me?” His tone was sharp.“I am no mate to you, Devon. You can knock yourself out of whatever devil's thought you have brewing in that peanut mind of yours. I am your sister,” I spat. His hands trailed two veins appearing on my forehead, then the ones on my neck as he leaned closer. “You, my darling, have lived your entire life believing you are what you're not. You are no sister of mine. Didn't Conrad show you enough contempt to prove that?” His eye

Camille’s POV "Seventy-two hours have passed, and no one has seen Camille," Skyla said, pacing back and forth in her office. I knew that already and did not appreciate the reminder from Skyla.Three days of searching and having personal chats with the people who had last seen her at the clinic still yielded no recognition of the men who had been with her or how they had entered.“Get me the records,” I ordered.I had gone through them over a thousand and two times in three days but couldn't find anything. The security at the pack's clinic wasn't weak. If those men had come in their human form, then they either came with someone posing as a relative.I checked the last two names on the record before Camille’s name and after her name: Amy Forsinard. I had not heard that name before.“Hey, come check this out,” I said, waving my hand for Skyla to come, with my index finger on the name.“Amy Forsinard. Have you heard of that name before?”She shook her head. “Sounds foreign. I've never h

Sigewuf's POV Where's the girl? Vikron's words were echoing loudly in my ear.Camille wasn't stupid. She couldn't have left the Nightwatchers pack if someone hadn't asked her to or dragged her away. Or was Vikron trying to play a fast one on me? Probably he had the girl locked up somewhere so he could have her to himself, and now was putting up a facade. But he couldn't have driven for what? An hour? To come down here if it wasn't important. Even though he hadn't set foot through the gate, it had been eleven years since he was last seen around here.“So you're saying someone has Camille right now?” I asked, addressing neither of them in particular.“Yes,” Skyla replied. What was even wrong with the red-haired? Couldn't she just shut up? I had wanted a response from Vikron, not her.I stifled the anger brewing within me, an edge to my tone. “And that person signed out, was damn smart enough to include alongside her name that he was her family and that their relationship was based on m
