BARON

A heavy pang was heavily felt within my chest as she uttered those words and fled. I watched her running away from me. My mate. Gasps of shock and surprise filled the air as college students who had witnessed the rejection watched on in disbelief, surprise and some even envy.

I wasn’t a student, I left a long time ago, dropping out of school. I wasn’t back at Stone Shadow academy to continue my education. I had come because Lucas had texted me of her presence in the school.

I had to drive like a maniac down here, hoping for a wonderful time with my mate and what I got was a rejection.

A rejection! Anger and pain mixed to cause a whirlpool around my chest.

My wolf was angry and pranced around my head in rage. She was an Omega, I knew that the moment my wolf sniffed her and tagged her our mate.

A weak one.

But I didn’t care about her wolf’s status or her status, I just wanted her.

I could not stop staring in the direction she had run off to, controlling the urge to pursue her and make her accept me. The school bell rang signalling the beginning of the day’s lectures. I didn’t move.

“Go to class, everyone. We need privacy.” Aaron ordered.

No one dared defy the words of the next in line Alpha. I only heard the scrambling of feet, I didn’t look.

“Come, Baron, let’s go to the cafeteria.” Katherina’s soft, sympathetic voice had me turning to meet her gaze. She took one look at me, her eyes watered. “Oh Baron, I’m so sorry.” She enveloped me in a warm, comforting hug.

“She rejected me.” I was yet to wrap my head around it.

“I’m so sorry. Let’s go to the cafeteria. We’ll talk better there.” She pulled back from the hug, stood on tiptoe to give me a kiss on my cheek and held my wrist, pulling me along.

I went with her, so did my brothers. We all went in the direction of the private, luxurious cafeteria meant strictly for the Salvatores with private chefs and menus.

Girls were dying to be in here. Boys wanted to be friends to hang out with us but we all had one thing in common — we didn’t like outsiders much.

Katherina was a step sibling who turned out to be my twin brother’s mate. I liked her a lot but I couldn’t fight against the will of the Moon Goddess and had just surrendered and hoped for my own.

Actually, she was my second chance mate. I had thought I might never find anyone to be mated with especially after Katelyn, Aaron’s long time friend, killed my first mate just to cause a rift between Aaron and me.

Her plan had worked actually and for a long time, Aaron and me were enemies until the truth was exposed. Katelyn had been banished from the pack after severe punishment and humiliation.

She would not be returning to Stone Shadow pack in forever.

“Sit.” Katherina had me occupying a space on one of the long sofas.

“But why would she reject the mate bond? Only yesterday, there was this acceptance and excitement on her face as soon as she figured out you are mates.” Zach wondered aloud.

One of the waitress saw us and made her way towards us.

It was only in this cafeteria that alcoholic drinks were allowed. The other four general cafeterias for every level had just soft drinks and yoghurts.

“Good day, Royal Highnesses.” She bowed, greeting us all. “What would you like?”

“A bottle of coffee-flavored rum.” Trenton ordered, he knew my favorite alcoholic drink.

Trenton wasn’t much of a talker and was a wall when it came to knowing him but we as family knew he was not a bad person.

He was adopted but very few knew. Many didn’t. To us, there was no difference. He was family.

Complicated, yes. Bad, absolutely not.

He was an immediate younger to me and Aaron.

“Get her fruity wine.” Aaron ordered for his pregnant mate, Katherina.

He was the serious one. He and I were the oldest of the Salvatore boys — though I was the oldest twin. I was considered the troublemaker and black sheep.

“I need food, give us the special for today.” Lucas, who was the foodie and jocular one amongst us put in. He was also the last child.

“Yes and make sure it’s delicious.” His second-in-command for food matters and the wild, crazy one, Zach, added.

Zach was an immediate older to Lucas.

The waitress nodded and left as quietly as she had come.

“Why do you think she had a change of mind?” Zach wanted to know.

“What if it had to do with that man she had come with yesterday?” Aaron opined.

We all looked at him. “Are you certain?” I was the one asking.

“I’m not certain of anything, Baron. I’m just guessing. I don’t know. He acted really crazy yesterday.” Aaron continued.

I noticed Katherina had gone quiet. Despite my own troubles, I nudged Aaron under the table. He met my gaze, I gestured for him to look at Katherina.

The boys understood and no one talked about the man anymore. Silence ensued.

“You guys didn’t have to stop the conversation simply because one mad man barged into our home, claiming to be my father.” She scoffed and eye rolled. “I don’t care who he is. The only father I have is David Salvatore, the Alpha of Stone Shadow pack.” Katherina spoke up.

She didn’t appear bothered by the mention of the man. Maybe she was good at hiding it because no one would hear such news and not think about it.

“But what if her decision was not influenced by this Ben guy?” Katherina contributed. “What if she has her own reasons for rejecting the bond?”

“What reasons?” I wanted to know.

She shrugged. “I don’t know. She was happy at first but today, it’s a different story. And the way she ran after declaring the rejection doesn’t even make me believe she wants to let you go.” Katherina wisely opined.

“So what are you saying?” I leaned forward to hear more. Both my interest and curiosity were piqued.

“Try again. Find her and talk to her.”

SCARLETT “It’s almost seven pm and no word from her yet.” We were now rallying about the big, general living room, all seven pairs of eyes stationed on the doorway that led to and fro the foyer. “I’m calling Dad, but he’s not picking.” Lucas was wearing a confused, worried expression.Almost all of us were. “Let me try it.” Baron dialed his father’s line, putting it on speaker.Same thing. It rang but no answer. “Did they choose to go out on an impromptu dinner date?” Zach asked the room in general, but no one had an answer to that question.“They could have at least informed us they would be returning late, to keep us from biting our nails here.” One of the rare times Trenton didn’t speak coldly or have a hard expression blanketing his face. On the contrary, he wore a worrying look. “Do you think we should involve the cops?” Baron suggested. “What are you calling the cops for?”The Alpha entered living room, one of his guards carrying his briefcase. We all greeted him, a bit

SCARLETT I opened my door to see Lucas standing there, a hand raised to knock. “Hi. What’s up? I was about to come join you guys.”We had just returned from school. And everyone had dispersed to their individual rooms to freshen up and rendezvous downstairs as we usually did after school.“Yeah. I wanted to know if you’ve seen mom?” I shook my head. “No. We returned from school together, remember? If you haven’t seen her, then I won’t have either.”“That’s right.” He looked lost for a second, then he pressed on. “It’s just she’s always home when we return and even if she isn’t, she’ll call to know if we’ve had lunch and are having fun.” “Oh, yeah.” That was definitely true. “Have you tried calling her?” “Not reachable. The others too.” He said before I could ask. “Maybe I should try calling her.” I brought out my phone, closing the door and heading downstairs with him. The Luna would, unfailingly, call one of us to know how we were faring and to make sure we had eaten. It didn’t

LUNA ELIZABETH “Why are we stopping?” I asked my driver, noting that the other cars in front had stopped as well.“There’s a bump ahead, Luna, they are trying to check it out.” He replied respectfully.I nodded, and waited for them to be done and we could continue. I had a very important Luna meeting to attend. This meeting involved Lunas from around the country, and being the Luna of the biggest and strongest of them all, I was chair lady.So I needed to be there before the others. Leading by example had always been my thing. “Luna, I think there’s trouble. Please keep your head down.” My driver informed me, communicating with the cars at the back to move so he could drive me to safety.Panicked and puzzled, my eyes darted about the environment. “What’s going on?”His response was swallowed by the fire of a bullet. I screamed, almost jumping out of my skin. Bullets kept being fired but thankfully, the windows were bulletproof and tinted.Just as he was driving out of the convoy l

  • Fated To The Second Alpha Heir    For Later

SCARLETT “Hi, Enisa.” I waved at her once I spotted her in the hallway. She hesitated waving back. Her smile wavered uncertainly, as if she wasn’t sure if she should be staying away from me or responding to my greetings. I guessed it could have something to do with her meeting with Baron, she had no idea he had told me. Shit! That reminded me. Baron had not told me what exactly he and Enisa had discussed. This was my opportunity to know.“See you later, guys.” I directed to the Salvatores, already parting ways to go meet Enisa. They looked at me strange, but didn’t say anything. They didn’t approve of my friendship with Enisa, that much had been made obvious. Well, I was an adult and could decide who I was friends with and who I wasn’t. Moreover, I have to prove to Baron — and the rest of the Salvatores — that Enisa wasn’t a bad person. It was normal to have a crush on someone and it was also human to feel jealous when your crush chose someone who wasn’t you…or in this case, was

ENISA“Hello, mom.” I stepped into the house, trying my best to look bright and not rouse suspicion.“Hi, darling. Are you okay?” But I guess one couldn’t fool their own mother…or maybe it was just my own mother that was hard to fool. “Of course, mom. I’m fine.” I hurried my feet towards the stairs to my room, my head lowered and my hair curtained about my face. “Enisa Beverly Saunders,” her firm tone stopped me on my tracks. “You will not lie to your mother. Raise your head, young lady.”She stepped in my path, stopping me from taking another step. Exasperated, I raised my head. “I’m fine, mom.”She ignored me, her keen eyes shifting to the left side of my face. A brow raised in question as her thumb gently touched the bruise there. “Who did this to you?”A lie came spilling without hesitation. “All the students were rushing to go home as soon as the bell rang. I was coming down the stairs with Nina and Delia when this guy and his friend mistakenly bumped into me. In trying to st

SCARLETT “Get off me, you bastard!” With all of my might, I pushed him off of me. He didn’t fight it, just let me go. I thought I saw guilt flashed in his eyes, but the annoyance was palpable. “What’s wrong with Enisa? Do you not want me to make love to you?” In a blind, raging moment, my hand swiped hard across his face. “Are you going to play the game of ignorance with me right now?”I didn’t want to believe what my head was conjuring right now. Mother of the Moon, please no. I prayed silently, I do not want to have to deal with the fact that my mate had cheated on me with the girl I’d accepted as my friend. That was more than betrayal. That was an attempt on my life. Mates were not supposed to cheat on each other especially when the bond had been formed and the female wolf have been marked by her mate. “What’s wrong, Scarlett? I didn’t even do anything. Why would you hit me?!” His voice was on the edge of giving control to his wolf’s. “Why do I smell Enisa on you?!” I lashed
