Chapter 1: The Forbidden Scent

Everly POV

The ballroom smelled like lies.

Champagne, expensive perfume, and the sharp cedar scent of every Alpha trying to mark their territory without actually shifting.

I tugged at the neckline of my dress. Too high. Too tight. It was choking me.

Lila paced inside me. My wolf.

“I know,” I whispered.

Tonight was supposed to be simple. Smile for Dad’s cameras. Shake hands. Be the perfect Senator’s daughter.

Instead, my skin was on fire and my heart was beating out of rhythm because he walked in.

Grayson Vale.

Dad’s best friend. CEO of Vale Corp. The most feared Alpha in three states.

And the one man I was forbidden to want.

He was 12 years older than me. He taught me how to ride a bike. He bandaged my knee when I fell off the fence at 9. He was family.

That’s what I kept telling myself.

But the moment his eyes found me across the room, Lila went feral.

My stomach dropped. No. No no.

He was in a black suit. No tie. The top two buttons undone like he didn’t care about rules. His jaw was sharp. His eyes were dark. And when they landed on me, everything else in the room went quiet.

“Everly.” His voice. Low. Rough. It rolled over me like smoke.

“Grayson.” I tried to sound normal. I failed.

The air between us was thick. Charged. I could smell him. Cedar and rain and something dangerous that made my knees weak.

Lila was scratching at my ribs.

“Your father asked me to keep an eye on you tonight,” he said. But his eyes said something else. They dragged down my dress, to my throat, to my mouth. Hunger.

“Dad’s busy,” I said. My voice came out too breathy. “He’s with the donors.”

Grayson stepped closer. One step. That’s all it took and my entire body reacted. Goosebumps. Heat.

“You look beautiful,” he said. It sounded like a curse.

“Thank you.” I hated how young I sounded.

Memories hit me. Him at 20, teaching me to drive in his truck. Him at 25, showing up at my graduation with flowers. Him last year, pulling me out of a bar fight because some drunk Alpha wouldn’t leave me alone.

He’d always been there. Safe. Constant. Until now.

Lila howled.

“Stop,” I thought at her. “He’s Dad’s friend.”

 she snarled back.

Grayson’s nostrils flared. He smelled it too. I knew he did. The bond was snapping into place between us, invisible but screaming.

The string quartet kept playing but I couldn’t hear it. All I could hear was my pulse in my ears. All I could smell was him.

He smelled like winter mornings and leather seats and the library where he used to help me with homework. Safe things. But underneath it was something else. Something wild. Something that wanted to tear my dress off and claim me in front of everyone.

I took a step back. He took a step forward.

We were playing a game neither of us agreed to.

Donors walked past us and smiled. “Senator’s daughter! Grayson! Good to see you both.”

Grayson nodded at them, but his eyes never left mine. His jaw ticked. Like he was holding himself back by a thread.

And I was the one holding the scissors._

“You should go,” he said suddenly. His voice was tight. “Before I do something stupid.”

“What if I don’t want you to?” The words slipped out before I could stop them.

His eyes flashed. For one second I saw it. Wolf. Gold and wild and starving.

“Everly,” he warned.

Music started. Couples moved to the floor. He held out his hand.

“One dance. Then you go home.”

One dance. That’s all it took to ruin everything.

His hand was warm and big around mine. Calloused from work. Strong. He pulled me in and suddenly I was against his chest.

We weren’t touching like friends. This was different. This was claiming without touching.

I could feel every inch of him. The heat of him through my dress. The way his chest rose and fell too fast. The way his other hand hovered at my waist like he was afraid to touch me and dying not to.

“You smell like trouble,” he murmured in my ear. His breath hit my neck and I shivered.

“You smell like the end of my life,” I whispered back.

He went still. His fingers twitched against my back.

“I’ve been trying not to want you for 4 years,” he said so quietly only I could hear. “Since you turned 18. Since you stopped calling me Uncle Gray.”

My heart stopped. “What?”

“Don’t,” he cut me off. “Don’t make me say it again.”

But it was too late. The truth was out. Hanging between us. And the bond snapped tighter._

The song ended. Too fast. He dropped my hand like it burned him.

“Go home, Everly.”

I ran. Because if I stayed one more second, I was going to beg him to kiss me in front of everyone.

And 12 hours later, I’d regret running.

Because that was the night he came to my window.

I lay in bed that night staring at the ceiling. My skin still buzzed where he’d touched my hand.

Lila wouldn’t shut up. She was running laps inside me, tail wagging, whining like a puppy.

I pressed my palms to my face. This was Grayson. The man who fixed my car when I was 17. Who gave Dad advice on my college applications. Who I’d called “Uncle Gray” until I was 14.

How did it go from that to this in one dance?

The scent of him was still on me. Cedar and rain and power. I buried my face in my pillow and inhaled. It was wrong. It was dangerous. It was the most right thing I’d ever felt.

I could still feel the ghost of his hand on my waist. Still hear the way he said my name. Like a prayer. Like a sin.

Outside, thunder rolled. Lightning lit up my room for one second.

The storm was coming.

And I had a feeling it had his name

Everly POVHe found me anyway. Three nights into house arrest, Grayson broke into my room through the window. Again. His grip tightened on my wrist, yanking me back down to the mattress. The sheets were still warm from us. Still smelled like sweat and sex and decisions we couldn’t take back. “You aren’t running,” he snarled. His voice was low, dangerous. His growl made the fresh mark on my neck burn like fire. Like it was brand new. “We settle this. Right now.” “My dad’s been calling for hours,” I choked out. My phone had been vibrating non-stop on the nightstand. 10 calls. 12. 15. 20. “He’ll kill us, Gray. Both of us. You know he will.” He leaned back against the headboard and dragged me into his lap. His arms came around me like chains. Possessive. Terrified. Like if he let go I’d disappear. “No one can know. Not yet.” I blinked. My heart was still racing from him, from last night, from everything. “But you marked me. The bond— it’s screaming. Everyone will know. The pack will

  • Fated To The Wrong Woman   Chapter 3: The Mark Of The Beast

Everly POVI didn’t sleep. I sat in my car in the Vale Corp parking garage at 5:47am with a high-neck sweater hiding my neck and Lila scratching at my ribs. My phone had 23 missed calls. All Dad. The bond in my chest was screaming. Pulling me up 47 floors. He’s here. Go to him.I shouldn’t have. God help me, I did. The elevator opened straight into Grayson’s office. Empty. Dark. Except for him. He was standing at the window, still in last night’s shirt. Coffee in one hand. The other fisted at his side. He looked like he hadn’t slept either. Like he’d been waiting. He turned when the doors shut behind me. And froze. His eyes went straight to my neck. Even though I had the collar up. Even though I was trying to hide it. He could smell it. “Everly.” His voice broke on my name. “What are you doing here?”“Running,” I whispered. “From Dad. From the guards. From myself.” I pulled the collar down. The mark was there. Angry. Red. A crescent bite right under my jaw. Proof. Grays

  • Fated To The Wrong Woman   Chapter 2: The Breaking Point

Everly POVI shouldn’t have opened the window. 2:17 AM. My bedroom was dark except for moonlight cutting across the floor. And there he was. Grayson. Standing in my backyard like he belonged there. Like he hadn’t just destroyed my entire life with one dance. Lila slammed against my ribs. Go away, I whispered through the glass. He heard me. Of course he did. Wolf hearing. “Let me in, Everly.” His voice was rough. Tired. Like he hadn’t slept. I did. God help me, I did. The moment he stepped inside, the air changed. It got heavy. Hot. He smelled like the night. Cedar and whiskey and something broken. “You’re not supposed to be here,” I said. I wrapped my arms around myself. My tank top suddenly felt like nothing. “I know.” He ran a hand through his hair. He looked wrecked. Dark circles under his eyes. “I’ve been driving for 3 hours. I can’t stop thinking about you. About the dance. About your scent. About how you felt under my hands.” My heart pounded. “Grayson, we can’t—” “Do
