Chapter eleven

Two months have passed. In those two months Beth has moved in, helping Abbigail with the pregnancy. Also in these past two months, Abbigail has formed a noticeable bump and no longer suffers from nausea or dizziness. Last week I had my cast removed and today I was able to return to work.

I enter the kitchen, wearing my uniform with a bulletproof vest under my shirt. Beth was cooking breakfast and Abbigail was picking grapes from the fruit bowl. I give them both a kiss and Abbigail feels for my vest. She sighs in relief when she feels it. Tears fill her eyes and she asks in a choked whisper, "You wore it?"

"Of course I did, I promised you I would," I say in a soothing tone and give her a kiss on her forehead. "I'd do anything for either of you, you just need to ask."

"Can you come home safe, especially when you're in this uniform," Abbigail asks in a choked whisper.

"I promise to try my best," I say softly and give her a kiss.

"Can you bring home a pregnancy test," Beth asks in
