AVELINE'S POV

I discovered the art of Manipulation toward the end of the first year I spent with the Gammas.

I stumbled into it by accident. Well, more like crashed into it.

As I'd suspected, Serena and Stephen had been completely on board with helping me research ways to make Tiny's wolf emerge, as well as find a means to combat or, if possible, manage the present and future effects of Damon's hybrid nature.

But there was only so much they could do.

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    Sirus

AVELINE'S POV Sirus had been bitten.Multiple times.I had no idea. But from what he told me, my sister had known about it at some point.I was surprised that I had absolutely no idea about this, but honestly, I couldn't even fault Jenna for not telling me. At the time, I was juggling life after giving birth to a child eight months earlier than was normal. Add that to the fact that it wasn't really my business, and it became easier to understand how I had remained unaware. It had happened when he'd gone back into the Wilds with the, in my opinion, very crazily stupid idea of ending the creatures of the Northern Wilds before they came for us.He'd been able to hide the bites for a while, but soon, the symptoms became too difficult to bear alone, and he could no longer hide them from Jenna.Unfortunately, the healers, whom he'd ordered not to let a word of his predicament slip, couldn't help him. His bites were unlike Jenna's, which the healers had been able to treat to some extent, at

Well, more like crashed into it.As I'd suspected, Serena and Stephen had been completely on board with helping me research ways to make Tiny's wolf emerge, as well as find a means to combat or, if possible, manage the present and future effects of Damon's hybrid nature. But there was only so much they could do.While they were more knowledgeable and skilled in scientific methods, having conducted numerous experiments and examinations throughout their careers, I was better at uncovering hidden truths, facts, and mysteries buried beneath historical records and contemporary accounts. My curiosity, as Jenna used to say, was unbounded.Every so often, I'd catch little glimpses of my sister in practically anything, and those memories would send my thoughts drifting toward her. Sometimes, I'd recall the short life she'd lived, the things she'd hoped to

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    A quiet kind of guilt

AVELINE'S POVEverything changed when Uncle Zickiel began insisting that I return to the Winter Pack.At first, I didn't think he was serious. It had all begun with careful, harmless suggestions about coming back. About visiting the Winter Pack more often and staying longer. During my calls and visits, Aunt Daria made a point of showing me everything old and new that she thought might interest me, as though she were trying to convince me to stay without outright saying so.The Winter Pack and the Eastern Pack had been on good terms for a very long time, and despite Jenna's death on Eastern Pack grounds, that didn't seem to be changing.I was almost considered a member of the Eastern Pack by the people around me. Or at least, that was what I liked to think. The only thing standing between me and formal membership was the legal process, which I knew wouldn't be difficult to complete. Not when Sirus seemed so consumed by guilt that he would probably grant me anything I asked for.I'd not

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    Tainted bloodline

AVELINE'S POV Tiny and I left the pack house the following night. I had wasted no time. It seemed the Moon was also on our side because I hadn't expected escaping the pack house with the Alpha's child to be as reasonably easy as it turned out to be. But then again, considering the way Sirus had been behaving for the last two months, and with the conversation between Sirus and Mortius still fresh in my mind, perhaps it shouldn't have been so surprising that the security of the Alpha's newborn wasn't exactly a top priority. Sirus didn't suspect anything. Neither did any of the pack house staff. After leaving the study the night before, I had spent a great deal of time awake, unable to sleep as I plotted and replotted my plans to get Tiny out of the pack house as soon as possible without drawing suspicion to myself. Just thinking about the events that had led me to such a panicked sprint to get Tiny out of there, just thinking about how the conversation between Mortius and Sirus h

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    Behind closed doors

AVELINE'S POV I overheard the conversation that changed the course of both I and Tiny’s lives two month after her birth. Her wolf still hadn't emerged and I could tell it bothered Sirus more than he liked to show. He'd invited multiple skilled healers and scholars to check her out although he tried not to make it public. In fact, he tried not to make anything public. I didn't understand it at first. I'd been going on with the idea that he was just keeping his personal matters discreet and free from the pack’s ears because he would like to grieve in privacy. But after a while I realized it went beyond that.He didn't make Jenna's burial public. This I was glad of. I didn't want a crowd of people who did not know her showing up to the ceremony like the final farewell to my sister was an obligation they did not really care about. However, it struck me as odd that he never made any announcements about the matter. And after a conversation I had with Serene, it seemed a vast majority of th

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    Dormant

AVELINE'S POV "I suppose we'll figure it out." The words had barely left my mouth when the baby stirred again. Her tiny fingers loosened around mine. I watched them for a moment before slowly withdrawing my hand. I should have left. I had Damon waiting for me. Serene was probably wondering when I would return, and I had already stayed away longer than I'd intended. But I couldn't make myself move. Not yet. I looked down at the little girl again. Tiny. The word came to me without much thought. She was so small. So impossibly small that I could have held her against one arm and forgotten there was a whole world beyond the room. "Tiny," I whispered. Her nose wrinkled slightly in her sleep. I smiled despite myself. "Tiny." The name felt strange. Too casual for everything that had happened. But perhaps that was exactly why I liked it. She didn't need another solemn name whispered over her because her mother was dead. She didn't need to become a symbol of tragedy befo

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    Stupid Alpha Aura

After saying goodbye to Bailey, I head towards rehearsals, feet practically bouncing in anticipation. I weave between stalls, the hum of pre-festival chatter around me, but stop short when I see him — leaning against the edge of the square, half-shifted, green eyes glinting under the lanterns.

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    A Spectacle of My Own Making

The first time I saw the Tule Dance, I was seven. I fell in love with the performance immediately and wanted to participate the very next year. Mum said I was too young and not yet developed enough, so I waited. When I turned twelve, I asked again. After a lot of begging and convincing, I was al

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    Something about a dead rat

Scanning my wardrobe for a few seconds, I choose a crimson-colored tube top and a short pleated skirt. I smile at my reflection in the mirror after putting it on. I apply mascara, eyeliner, pink gloss, then pull my hair up into a messy bun. Sitting on my bed, I slip on my favorite pair of black s

  • Fated to my Alpha nemesis    The blue moon

The Festival of the Blue Moon is fast approaching, and suddenly everyone is a merchant, selling trinkets, beverages, treats, and practically anything that has a price tag. Mom and Dad set up a stall every year. However, they are usually too busy to manage it, being the Beta pair and all. Talia and
