CHAPTER FIVE
MIRA
My phone beeped with a notification while sitting on my couch and enjoying a glass of wine.
I leaned forward and picked up the phone, which was lying on the table.
"A place has been secured for yourself and your daughter. My limousine would be coming to pick you up soon." The message read.
I scoffed, already knowing who the message was from.
So he really didn't remember me.
And he was still as selfish and wicked as he used to be then. He never changed even one bit.
At the thought of that, sharp pain swept through my entire body, making my face turn white. But this time around, it was not out of agony like anyone would think. It was out of anger and the burning urge for revenge.
I was holding tightly onto the side of the couch in exasperated breath when my five year old daughter walked up to me.
"Mum, I think I've got something in my eyes." The innocent velvety voice floated into my ears.
I turned my eyes to look at the lad in front of me, her clear brown eyes looking up at me expectantly.
My eyes ran through her small frame, and I shook my head. She looked so sweet and almost reminded me of the younger version of myself.
"Go pack up. We are going on a trip." I harshly said to the lad before I lifted myself off the couch.
"Mum, just like that?"
"Just do as I said. The limousine will be here in no time." I barked at her, and she shuddered before running towards the direction of her room.
I stood at a spot for a moment, my eyes glued to the direction she had just gone.
How would it have been possible to forgive him when something that is compulsorily a part of me kept reminding me of him.
I was stacking up some tools in my tool back when the limousine pulled up in my driveway.
"Mia," I called harshly as I walked out of the house holding my toolbox.
It was followed by Mia walking out of her room, dragging a small bag pack consisting of the little clothing she was going to be needing for our short stay.
"Mum, is Dad coming with us?" My innocent daughter asked again as we both got into the limousine.
"No," I answered curtly and didn't bother giving anymore explanation.
As soon as I got into the limousine, the cold air from the fully air-conditioned car hit me, causing me to close my eyes and inhale sharply.
This was what affluence felt like. Within the past few years, I had the opportunity to have a little feel of it because of the skills that I had developed over the years.
Nostalgia hit me as soon as the limousine pulled up inside the pack house, and all the memories immediately began to flood in. It was not like I had forgotten anyway.
I swallowed hard and tightened my fists as I looked around the premises where I had received the worst humiliation of my life five years ago, where the three brothers had tossed me around as if I was their play thing.
The sun was already starting to make its way behind the horizon, spreading thick, beautiful orange colours around the environment.
The limousine finally came to a halt, and the driver came over to the side to open the door to let me out.
The place looked almost the same, like nothing had changed with in the past five years. There are only a few improvements with the advent of technology here and there.
There were a few pack members going around with their daily activities, it may seem as though they were fully concentrating on their work, but I could see them peering from the corner of their eyes, probably wondering who is this mysterious woman who had showed up in their pack.
I was standing there and looking around when a young woman about my age walked up to me.
"Good day ma'am, you must be the fetish we have all been waiting for." She said in a smooth, velvety voice. She equally had a bright smile on her face, and I couldn't help but think that the smile was part of her job.
I nodded my head and returned her smile while running my eyes down her entire frame.
She was dressed in formal outfits like a hotel concierge, her hair packed into a neat ponytail.
"Come on, I am going to show you to your room, you can leave your bags in the car, I will have the driver bring them in."
I smiled and nodded my head. However, I reached out for the bag, which contained my tools.
"But, I will have to pick this one up myself. It contains things that I can't leave behind." I said and offered her a smile, which she returned warmly.
I reached out for Mia and held her hand in mine.
I looked around the pack house one more time before I walked behind her, into the main building, wondering why I suddenly felt a strong force of attraction pulling me towards a particular direction. It was something I could not explain, something I had only felt about five years ago.
"No way." I whispered. There was no way that was possible. After all, he had already rejected me five years ago, right? And I rejected him too.
It was definitely my heart playing tricks with me. I let out a deep breath and kept walking.
Suddenly, my heart began to beat involuntarily and wouldn't stop no matter how hard I tried to make it stop. The force pulling me equally increased.
I didn't have a wolf, I would have tried to find out from her what was going on.
At that same instant, the young lady who was leading me paused in her tracks, almost bumping into the young man who had just come down from the staircase.
"Good day, Alpha Jeremy." She bowed and made way for him to pass.
My heart dropped at that mention of the name and began pounding hard against my chest.
No way!
Jeremy walked past the maid, brushing past me.
His scent wafted into my nose, and I felt butterflies start to dance inside my stomach like there was a feast being held there.
The force of attraction hit stronger. Slowly, I felt myself being pulled towards him. At this point, I no longer had control of myself, I turned around to look at him even, only to be met with the biggest shock of my life.
Despite having walked past me, hr halted in his tracks and turned around to look at me. The only explanation to that would be that he also felt the attraction.
His eyes peered into mine for the next few minutes. Wr both stood static there peering into each other's eyes.
"Ma'am, shall we?" The voice of the woman who had led me in pulled ne back to reality. "Let's go."
"Sure," I nodded and flashed her a smile.
I settled into the room where she led me to.
Looking around the room, one can easily tell that it was a room reserved for guests. there was just a single king-sized bed, an empty wardrobe, and a mirror by the side of the wall. There was a couch by the bed where I immediately dumbed the bag I had in hand.
"Unpack." I ordered my daughter, "I am going outside for some fresh air."
I needed to take a survey around the pack house. After all, I was here for revenge, and I needed to know my enemies.
The cold air hit my face as soon as I stepped my feet outside the palace, in the premises of the pack house. By this time, it was already pretty dark outside, but I could manage to see from the illumination provided by the lightbulbs in the premises.
I was strolling blissfully when I heard footsteps behind me. I quickly turned around to see Jeremy standing there. His tall frame was enough to recognize him even in the dark.
"If it isn't, the much talked about fetish." He said mischievously and approached me.
My heart began to thud violently against my chest as I stood facing him, I could not help but wonder if he had recognized me earlier. His brother didn't, so he most likely wouldn't
I maintained a straight face and tried to get rid of the fire burning in my insides as I faced him.
"You must be the brother." I said, trying to sound normal.
He smiled dryly. With the reflection of the light, I could see his face faintly, but it was unreadable.
"Yes, I am the brother. Long time no see, Mira." He voiced out, and my breath hitched.
He did recognize me.
I cleared my throat and tried to say something, to maybe, convince him that he was mistaking, but nothing was forthcoming.
"Don't worry," he drawled. "I am going to keep your little secret, but you are also going to do something for me in return."
I wanted to say something else, to shun him off, but when I opened my mouth, the only thing I was able to let out was a gasp.
"You are going to give in to it, to the desire." He said with a smirk on his face.
"What... What are you talking about?" I asked him, and he shook his head.
"You feel it too, don't you?" He asked.
I took a step backwards and swallowed hard. My heart beat repeatedly till it almost became painful to breathe.
"Feel what?" I asked as fiercely as I could, while holding onto his gaze and making sure my eyes were unwavering.
"The mate bond, Mira, don't you feel it?"
Hearing his words further broke my resolve, and I took a step back till my back hit the wall. He took one step forward and another till he was standing directly in front of me.
His eyes swept through my entire frame lustfully like he was trying to undress me with his words.
Slowly, he lifted his hand and ran the back of his palm over my face, causing a tingle in my intimates.
"You've grown even more beautiful than you looked five years ago, Mira, just like the kind of woman I would like on my bed."
My stomach clenched with his last words, especially as his breath tickled my face.
"Succumb to the mate bond and be my Luna."
CHAPTER FIFTYJeremyI stood in my study, sorting through the reports that spread out across my desk, the quiet ticking of the clock noting each second. A soft tap on the door jolted me back to reality as I was in deep thoughts, trying to unravel the most recent series of mysteries surrounding the pack.“Come in", I yelled. Looking up, there was Celia standing in the doorway with a tentative but resolute gaze. She stepped inside, shutting the door gently behind her.“Jeremy", she said, in a low tone but with a hint of something I've never heard from her before. She came towards me, with expression in her eyes that I couldn't quite place. "There's something I've always wanted to tell you".I set the papers aside, giving her my full attention. Celia has always been a good friend, and I've always relied on her, especially in trying times. But the way she was acting made my chest tighten with uneasiness. “What is it, Celia?” I asked gently, hoping to put her at ease.Celia took a deep bre

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT LESLEY The first rays of dawn seeped through the high, narrow windows of the pack’s fortress as i and my brothers descended into the cold, silent depths of the underground prison. The air down here was damp and thick with the scent of stone and iron, and every step they took seemed to echo in the oppressive silence. The walls, usually a place of security and confinement, now felt unsettling. Today was supposed to mark a breakthrough in their investigation—a chance to collect the DNA of the rogues they’d captured and perhaps uncover ties that could lead them to those responsible for the recent attacks on their pack. I had been tense since sunrise, my mind racing with possibilities. Every rogue they’d captured represented a potential clue, a link in the chain leading back to the mysterious figure who’d orchestrated the strikes against them. But as they approached the entrance to the prison, i sensed something was wrong. Two guards, visibly anxious, exchanged troubl
CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN MIRA The council chamber was wrapped in an ominous silence, a silence whereby only the distant howling of the wind outside could be heard. The elders had summoned me. I stood in the center of the room, surrounded by the elders and the three alpha brothers, Jeremy, Martin and Lesley. They all fixed their eyes on me. I felt the sting of their judgemental eyes, their stares pinning me, exposing the fragile vulnerability I tried so hard to conceal. I knew the weight in my decision —to stay and help the pack or to leave them to continue fighting for themselves. I understood the intensity in their gazes; the pack's defenses were broken, their strength had been exhausted, morale shattered, leaving them on the brink of collapse. With eyes worn by wisdom and war, came forward one of the elders. "Mira", he said his voice low and urgent. "Our pack is in mortal danger, we are at the edge of loosing everything. The Rouges have become more stronger, more dangerous. We don't k
CHAPTER FORTY SIX MIRA I had sensed something between Jeremy, Celia and Sylvia. They had this strange dynamics between them.. I had noticed a change in his expression when their names came up especially Celia, like a flicker of old memories haunting him. One evening, as I and Jeremy walked down a quiet street, I finally mustered up the courage to ask him about it "Uhmm, can I ask you something?" I asked, my voice gentle "Yes, you can". He replied "It's about Celia and Sylvia", I said trying carefully not to tread on old wounds. Jeremy stopped in his tracks and looked away. His expression turned gloomy. He took a deep breath- " I broke up with Sylvia the night she disappeared. He said, his voice barely above a whisper. "She had been acting so different, his gaze focused on a distant point as he went on. I couldn't take it anymore. She seemed so heartless for making Celia leave. I just couldn't understand it. They were best friends, they were practically sisters, but Sylvia just.
CHAPTER FORTY FIVEMIRA“What?” My lips trembled as I blurted out the question. My heart was pounding hard inside my chest as if it was about to burst out from my rib cage abe any little mistake could proceed to cause it to burst out violently.I tried as hard as I could to control the palpitation in my heart as I stood facing her.She let the question hanging in the air for a while as tension began to float through the room, causing a slight terrific sensation in my guts.“What did you say?” I asked again, feeling my fists clenched. She furrowed her brows as she faced me.“I heard you initially.” She blurted out. “You don’t have to raise your voice at me like a lunatic.” She said curtly. The palpitation in my heart initially seized and my muscles which tightened earlier suddenly released themselves.I gulped down hard one more time.“Fine,” I said and folded my arms. “Since you heard me, I want you to get out of my room. You have absolutely no reason to be here.”She batted her lashe
