CHAPTER ONE
MIRA
"How do I look?"
"Lucky," Sharon's voice reminded me of where I came from.
I was standing in front of the mirror. The mirror hung on a single nail in a corner of a dimly lit, sparsely furnished room. The mirror's surface is cloudy and streaked, reflecting a distorted image of the bare, peeling walls and the worn, creaky floorboards. The frame, once ornate, now hung crooked and faded, its gilded edges chipped and worn away. The mirror seemed to lean wearily against the wall, as if it too had given up on the surroundings.
My presence in front of the mirror was supposed to brighten up the place. But, the background still looked as pale as ever. Did I just say pale? I asked myself as I racked my head for the best word to describe it.
"Poor," Sharon's voice was heard again.
It was as though she read my thoughts. That was the word I was searching for. The exact words. Everything in front of the mirror screamed poverty, including myself.
"You shouldn't go into that party looking this way, Mira. What if you embarrass the alpha in front of his guest."
My cheeks flushed red at the mention of the alpha. I was in love with him. Helplessly, I had fallen for him like a fool. I was lucky to be mated to the alpha of the Black wolf pack. He didn't even see me as a weak omega. Just like others did.
"I wish I had a better dress to wear to the party," I said sadly as I looked down at myself.
"You should have accepted the dress from the alpha. "
I shook my head. I had explained to Sharon countless times that I didn't need to make alpha Lesley feel like I was there for the money and status. I wanted him to know that I genuinely loved him.
"I can't believe we would finally make our relationship public," I said, trying to change the topic.
Sharon walked closer to me and adjusted the collar of my already fading brown simple gown.
"I told you he would announce you as his mate at the right time. The right time is finally here."
I slowly took my eyes to the clock. I had less than thirty minutes to get to the alpha's house.
"I need to be on my way now."
I pecked Sharon before jumping out of the house. My heart skipped beats as I strolled to the alpha's house. I had never been to a party before. I wondered how it would feel like.
I was smiling sheepishly as I slowly drifted back to a week ago. I had bumped into the alpha and offered to do his laundry. Upon returning it, he grabbed my hands and pulled me into his small room.
The alpha brothers had a room in the school where only them and their friends were allowed to enter.
"I notice the way you stare at me, little omega," he had said, making my heart jump.
He pulled me closer when I was unable to say a word. That was when my heart began to beat rapidly, and I heard my wolf whisper... 'mate.'
Before I could think about what was going on, I was already lying on the small couch and moaning helplessly as the alpha thrusted in and out of me. My eyes rolled until only the whites were seen.
Alpha Lesley was huge, and it was my first time. He knew this fact, so he went gentle on me. But I could only say that for our first and second sex. In a week, the alpha and I had had sex more than four times already.
"Hey!" A deep commanding voice stopped me on my track.
I was brought back to reality. I looked around and realised that I was standing in front of the transcending mansion. I gulped as I took in the sight of the huge man standing by the door.
"Orchins are not welcomed here."
I pulled out the card that was handed to me by alpha Lesley and handed it over to him. He stared down at me as though I was a piece of rag. After a while, he pointed towards the door, and I walked in.
"If I dare hear anything about you, little monk, I'll throw you in the dungeon."
I pretended that he wasn't referring to me and hastened my feet towards the main party hall. Everywhere was litted up. The chandeliers lay high in the ceiling, and everything about the building screamed wealth.
I searched the entire room for my fated, and I could not find him. I felt someone grab my shoulder, and I almost felt my heart jump out of its place. I quickly turned around to see a gorgeous looking girl of about my age standing behind me.
"What in the hell are the maids doing roaming about the party hall?" She asked before covering her nose.
I lifted my arm to smell myself. I was obviously not smelling. In fact, I had used Sharon's perfume before leaving the house.
"I am not a mate," I replied, smiling slightly. "I am the alpha's fated mate. He invited me."
The girl burst out in laughter, and everyone around turned to look at me at almost the same time. Everyone else looked elegant aside me. I gulped down hard on my saliva and folded my fist.
Everyone else joined in the laughter. It soon died down as alpha Jasper walked up to the stage.
"Alpha Lesley is on his way here," he announced.
I turned from the younger brother of alpha Lesley to the narrow door by the corner of the hall. Everyone else was staring towards that angle. Alpha Lesely suddenly walked out through the narrow door. He was fully dressed, and his blonde hair was well combed and shaped in style to a side of his face.
He was dressed in black pants and red top that hugged him, exposing his huge masculine chest.
A young girl was walking with her hand locked in his arms. She was dressed in a red dress and gold heels. As the two walked out together, I felt my heart shifting in my chest. It could not be what I was thinking. Even though our relationship was private, alpha Lesley and I spent the whole week showering so much love on each other. He loved me, too.
"Oh, the weak omega is here!" He mocked.
He slowly grabbed my hands and pulled me up the stage, letting go of the other lady. Her lips were blood red, and her hair was black and long.
"So boys!" The alpha began, his voice thick with pride. "I won the bet."
There was an uproar in the crowd as everyone began to murmur among themselves. I could see alpha Lesley's friends laughing in a corner while his younger brother stared at us with his eyes wide open.
"She's cheap. I bet none of you saw that coming. I fucked her five times in a row in just a week. She didn't even say no on the first attempt. You all thought she's a week omega, and so she's mean to guys and so naive. She's a virgin Mary who knows nothing."
"What's going on?" I managed to whisper to alpha Lesley.
My legs began to shake in fear. My whole body trembled, and my palms began to sweat. I stared at my hands, being locked with alpha Lesley's as I prayed for this to be a dream.
I wanted to wake up and see that it was a dream. My throat and eyes went dry immediately. I could not bring myself to cry. I lacked the tears, too.
The girls were already laughing while the boys booed.
"I... I thought you loved me," I asked alpha Lesley, whispering in pain.
"I know," he responded, still filled with so much pride. "And that's why you're dumb, cheap, and stupid. How can I love an omega?"
I saw my whole world crumbling in front of me. I blinked thrice to absurb the pain in my eyes.
"I, Alpha Lesley Browns, reject you," he paused and looked down at me, belittling me again. "What's your name?"
"Mira," I replied weakly. "Mira Samson."
"Reject you, Mira Sampson, as my mate."
I gulped down hard and tightened my fist. I would no longer take this. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me, but it wouldn't. I gathered all the energy I had. I wanted to leave there as soon as I could.
"I Mira Sampson, reject you, Alpha Lesley brown as my mate."
A grin curved out on his lips as I said the words. I felt the whole world crumbling as I ran off the scene as fast as my legs could carry.
CHAPTER FIFTYJeremyI stood in my study, sorting through the reports that spread out across my desk, the quiet ticking of the clock noting each second. A soft tap on the door jolted me back to reality as I was in deep thoughts, trying to unravel the most recent series of mysteries surrounding the pack.“Come in", I yelled. Looking up, there was Celia standing in the doorway with a tentative but resolute gaze. She stepped inside, shutting the door gently behind her.“Jeremy", she said, in a low tone but with a hint of something I've never heard from her before. She came towards me, with expression in her eyes that I couldn't quite place. "There's something I've always wanted to tell you".I set the papers aside, giving her my full attention. Celia has always been a good friend, and I've always relied on her, especially in trying times. But the way she was acting made my chest tighten with uneasiness. “What is it, Celia?” I asked gently, hoping to put her at ease.Celia took a deep bre
CHAPTER FOURTY-NINEMIRAMy heart pounding, tears of relief streamed down my face as I held my daughter tight. Her face was pale and weary, she seemed peaceful in her sleep. Her lashes ceasted delicate shadows on her cheeks. But I couldn't shake of what just happened. The trauma of earlier hours, when I found out she was unconscious, her body was so cold as if her life had momentarily slipped away. This wasn’t the first time this had happened. These strange spells had been coming on for weeks now, each one lasting a little longer than the last, and each one leaving me in despair. The healer’s magic, a gentle warmth i had once thought could mend any ailment, was beginning to fail. Each time my daughter fell into these spells, the healer seemed to struggle more than usual to revive her.The healer etched with age. Her face full of wisdom and kindness, stayed by the bedside after y daughter had woken up. Her fingertips glowing softly from the healing magic she had used to revive the litt
CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT LESLEY The first rays of dawn seeped through the high, narrow windows of the pack’s fortress as i and my brothers descended into the cold, silent depths of the underground prison. The air down here was damp and thick with the scent of stone and iron, and every step they took seemed to echo in the oppressive silence. The walls, usually a place of security and confinement, now felt unsettling. Today was supposed to mark a breakthrough in their investigation—a chance to collect the DNA of the rogues they’d captured and perhaps uncover ties that could lead them to those responsible for the recent attacks on their pack. I had been tense since sunrise, my mind racing with possibilities. Every rogue they’d captured represented a potential clue, a link in the chain leading back to the mysterious figure who’d orchestrated the strikes against them. But as they approached the entrance to the prison, i sensed something was wrong. Two guards, visibly anxious, exchanged troubl
CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN MIRA The council chamber was wrapped in an ominous silence, a silence whereby only the distant howling of the wind outside could be heard. The elders had summoned me. I stood in the center of the room, surrounded by the elders and the three alpha brothers, Jeremy, Martin and Lesley. They all fixed their eyes on me. I felt the sting of their judgemental eyes, their stares pinning me, exposing the fragile vulnerability I tried so hard to conceal. I knew the weight in my decision —to stay and help the pack or to leave them to continue fighting for themselves. I understood the intensity in their gazes; the pack's defenses were broken, their strength had been exhausted, morale shattered, leaving them on the brink of collapse. With eyes worn by wisdom and war, came forward one of the elders. "Mira", he said his voice low and urgent. "Our pack is in mortal danger, we are at the edge of loosing everything. The Rouges have become more stronger, more dangerous. We don't k
CHAPTER FORTY SIX MIRA I had sensed something between Jeremy, Celia and Sylvia. They had this strange dynamics between them.. I had noticed a change in his expression when their names came up especially Celia, like a flicker of old memories haunting him. One evening, as I and Jeremy walked down a quiet street, I finally mustered up the courage to ask him about it "Uhmm, can I ask you something?" I asked, my voice gentle "Yes, you can". He replied "It's about Celia and Sylvia", I said trying carefully not to tread on old wounds. Jeremy stopped in his tracks and looked away. His expression turned gloomy. He took a deep breath- " I broke up with Sylvia the night she disappeared. He said, his voice barely above a whisper. "She had been acting so different, his gaze focused on a distant point as he went on. I couldn't take it anymore. She seemed so heartless for making Celia leave. I just couldn't understand it. They were best friends, they were practically sisters, but Sylvia just.
CHAPTER FORTY FIVEMIRA“What?” My lips trembled as I blurted out the question. My heart was pounding hard inside my chest as if it was about to burst out from my rib cage abe any little mistake could proceed to cause it to burst out violently.I tried as hard as I could to control the palpitation in my heart as I stood facing her.She let the question hanging in the air for a while as tension began to float through the room, causing a slight terrific sensation in my guts.“What did you say?” I asked again, feeling my fists clenched. She furrowed her brows as she faced me.“I heard you initially.” She blurted out. “You don’t have to raise your voice at me like a lunatic.” She said curtly. The palpitation in my heart initially seized and my muscles which tightened earlier suddenly released themselves.I gulped down hard one more time.“Fine,” I said and folded my arms. “Since you heard me, I want you to get out of my room. You have absolutely no reason to be here.”She batted her lashe
