Chad's POV

Bella put the towel away and started brushing her hair. I could hear her heart racing. She was hiding something from me, and Hendrick knew everything about it. Why couldn’t she trust me the way she trusted him? It took her a minute to respond, but she didn’t meet my gaze.

“What do you mean? Hendrick killed them, of course,” she said, continuing to brush her silky hair. I got up from the bed and took the brush from her, beginning to comb her long locks. I noticed her uneasiness but decided not to pressure her. She would tell me when she was ready.

“Don’t ever cut your hair,” I said, trying to change the subject.
