Lucifer's POV Ruthless retreated back and neighed at the sight of me while I furrowed my brows at Ashlyn annoyed. I made her stand properly and I went to Ruthless. "Aye, friend, are you alright?" I asked him and he neighed leaning on my shoulder. I ruffled his mane and turned to Ripper. "I recall giving you a clear warning never to let her near an horse." I said to him and he nodded. "Technically, you said ride and I was not.." She began to speak. "Shut up!" I yelled at her and she stumbled back a bit at my outburst. "You do not talk while I'm still talking." I said to her upset at the fact that she had taken such risk to go closer to Ruthless. What if he'd knocked her down and she breaks a bone? Only I understood Ruthless and the way he thinks. I turned back to Ripper and Rage. "Who allowed this?" I inquired in anger. They both looked at each other. "I.." Ashlyn began to speak again and I shushed her up raising my hand and upholding a finger in mid air. "Speak not or face my
Ashlyn's POV It was already getting dark and the moon was about to rise fully in the grey sky. I had stayed with Rage and Ripper watching the horses being trained for the Games and they looked like they were born for this. "Here comes Kill." Ripper said suddenly and I looked at the direction his eyes were upon. "And here comes your task." Rage added with a snicker. I swallowed. What difficult task would he set for me? It was definitely not going to be as bad as Lucifer's. After all he was only a mini caricature of him. Not really the vicious alpha. "I've been told to assign you to a task, young Miss. Come with me." Kill said as soon as he approached me and turned away without waiting for an answer. I duly followed him and he took me to the weapon room. "This is your task. Take down all the weapons and armor. Clean them thoroughly, they shall be used in the events." He said and walked away as soon as he was done barking his orders at me.Alright, that was rude, but I could not do
Ashlyn's POV I stared at the huge beast laying down on the floor completely paralyzed by the shots. "Will he be alright?" I asked Ripper. "It's the effects of the full moon. He'll be alright by dawn." He replied. Slowly, I advanced towards him. "Do not go any closer, milady." Ripper said trying to stop me, but I paid no attention to him. I was swayed by an unknown force to go closer. "Stay back!" Kill barked at me. I ignored him. He was not Lucifer that I should fear. The man I was afraid of was laying helpless on the floor."He's very aggressive around women when he's like this." Rage warned me, but still, I did not listen. I knelt down and stared at him. His big black eyes just staring with no feeling. "Are you alright?" I tried to communicate with him through the mind link. His voice came out rough and dark. Filled with gruesome horror. "Go away." He said, but I did not listen to him too. I sat there watching him as his nostrils kept flaring. He'd be roped in and tied to
Ashlyn's POV I opened my eyes the next morning to find a plaid covering Lucifer and I. At my stir, he also awoke. I raised my head from his, suddenly cautious of myself. He was already in his human form and naked under the plaid. Heat crept up my cheek as I looked away from his dazed gaze. I saw Roselia smiling at me and behind her was Ripper, Rage, Stealth and Kill. Lucifer let out a gruff. "You're alive and in one piece!" Rage exclaimed at the sight of me. "I knew the fragile ones were tough at the end." Stealth said with a smile. I looked over at Lucifer and he had a worried frown etched on his face. "Get another plaid for the alpha!" Roselia yelled over at the maiden standing by the door the moment she saw Lucifer getting up and she dashed out quickly. "Do not bother about it, Roselia. This is not the first time she'd be seeing me naked." He said. Heat of embarrassment crept to my cheeks as he pulled me up roughly and I fell flat on his chest. I gasped as my bare skin met
Ashlyn's POV The Highland Alpha Games began a few hours after the alphas arrived. I had no idea there were lots of alphas in this region. They came with their best horses for the race and their finest arrows and bows. They also came with few of their members to cheer them on. Many of the alphas were middle aged and a few looked like they had just been sworn in. The first games to begin was the archery. About ten targets were set and each alpha of each pack was called out to stand a far distance away from the targets. Kill was the regulator of the event. Every alpha from each set that hit the target three times without missing would immediately be kept aside to compete with the other winners from the other set and then an overall winner would be claimed in the archery games. I joined the fellow spectators watching with intent as the first set of alphas were called. A mixture of alpha Lycan and werewolves. Out of ten in the set, only three emerged the winners as they were able to hit
Lucifer's POV Once again, she defied me and stayed with me throughout the night and at the early hours of the morning, she was gone. She had left clothes beside me too and as I donned them on, I wondered what she was thinking and I wondered why my heart quickened at the thought. "Isn't she so nice?" Steel asked me and I could hear the twinkles in his voice. "What's wrong with you, Steel. You've been acting weird lately." I said to him as I did my buttons. "I'm not being weird. I'm only saying she's nice. Nice enough to stay with us during our dangerous moments and getting us clothed before the sunrise." He explained, still speaking in that dreamy voice of his. "Do you love her?" I asked him. "I do not know, but love is a strong word." He said and retreated back without further words. He was not telling me the whole truth and I could feel it. We were one after all, but in matters like this, Steel always had a mind of his own. I walked out of the secret passageway and at the same
Ashlyn's POV I stood by the window watching the Games about to take place. Since Lucifer forbade me from going outside to see it, this was all I could do. I had felt his aura around while I was in the bathroom and I believed he must've passed by. My heart had clenched at that point. I sighted him immediately, walking out of the house in a long stride. He was cladded in the outfit I had kept beside him and this made me beam. Then, I saw him standing and speaking to Stealth and while he was speaking, he looked up at my window and his eyes connected with mine, unwavering. Still speaking with Stealth, he did not stop looking at me neither did I break the connection on my own part. 'You look quite beautiful today.' He said in my head. 'Uh?' I said foolishly unable to believe he just said that. 'I'm not repeating that.' He said with the faintest smile on his lips. This was unbelievable. The cruel rogue could actually smile and not smirk?! 'I heard that.' He said and I placed my han
Ashlyn's POV I saw Ripper and I immediately went to him. "What's going on?" I asked him. "Ruthless is missing, Rage was in charge of him and now he's gone. Without Ruthless, Lucifer will not enter the horseracing contest." He said, furrowing his brows. Lucifer looked like he was going to kill someone. "A simple task you were given, Rage and you could not executive it properly!" He yelled at Rage. "I was with him and I just.." He did not finish when Lucifer barked at him. "I do not want to hear it! Excuses! Excuses! It will not bring me Ruthless!" He yelled angrily. He was tensed. His forehead was dripping perspiration and his brows were soaked in the sweat."The race is about to commence, a Laird cannot quit." Kill said to him. "I need Ruthless. He's my trusted horse! Find me Ruthless!" He barked out at no one in particular. I wondered where Ruthless could be. Why he would abandon his master at this point when they needed each other. Hawking came along in his broad stallion. "I
