Kane's POV

I pace about my study waiting for the magician's feedback. For days now, I've not seen or heard from Delilah, and it's driving me crazy. The guilt of sending her through the portal eats deep in my heart, I can't concentrate on anything.

Ivan, the magician comes back into the study with Ezekiel.

"Err... Sir?" he calls my attention and I turn to him with a stern expression. "The staff of doom isn't working."

I instantly flare up at him. "What do you mean the staff of doom is not working?"

"I tried all I could."

"Well, try harder!" I say dismissively.

He rushes out of the room fearfully, leaving just me and Ezekiel.

"General..."

"Not now, Ezekiel," I cut in, not ready for any of his melodrama. Still, he speaks up.

"Cecile joined Delilah. I have a strong feeling they're together right now."

I continue pacing about the room, worried sick. Cecile isn't the best person to be with Delilah in such a situation. They're both deficient and lack adequate knowledge about the human wor

Delilah's POVI feel so hot right now. It wasn't until Vivian pointed it out that I noticed my burning shoes and clothes. The spot where I'm standing on her wooden floor starts to get dark, and smoke arises from it. I quickly move out of there. "Look at the ceiling," Cecile says, and we look up to see that part of the ceiling has started to burn. Vivian brings her gaze down from the ceiling, settling it on me. "Are you the one causing this?" I stare at her, my heart racing. Cecile notices my discomfort and comes to stand by me. "Come on, let's go." She grabs my arm, but quickly withdraws it. "You're cold as ice." My heart sinks. Cold as ice? This is exactly what happened the last time I transformed. My heart rate increases even more as I feel the panic rising in my chest. My feet become unstable on the floor, and I reel backwards, almost falling. Cecile holds me immediately."Delilah? Come on, what's the matter?" she asks, holding me. I try to look at her but my vision is blurr

Kane's POVEven when we're worlds apart, I can still feel Delilah's energy. She's unstable right now. On my part, it makes me restless. I haven't been able to sleep throughout the night and it's like the more we waste time, the bigger the threat.I continue to pace about the balcony, worried. Ivan has been working day and night to ensure the staff works but nothing has changed. I hit my hand on the railings and exhale angrily. The whole pack is quiet and everyone must be sleeping right now. This is the best time to leave Avalon, under the cover of night, when no one will know. I'm just glad there isn't any rumour about Delilah using the staff of doom. No one suspects it. Alpha Geraldine doesn't even know about his daughter's whereabouts. We haven't spoken since the day Delilah and Cecile disappeared. And he says he's coming to visit me today.I sit on the chair on the balcony, thinking until the day breaks. Alpha Geraldine arrives at the pack before sunrise. He comes upstairs to meet

Delilah's POVMy mind hasn't been able to rest ever since Jake walked out on me. I sit on the shore at the beach and stare at the sea for minutes. Tears threaten to fall from my eyes. What exactly did I do wrong? Why is he suddenly angry at me?Ever since I came here, Jake has been supportive of me. This evening, when I saw him at the beach, I was relieved. But lashing out at me for an unknown reason is what I still cannot understand. With everything happening, and the news that the staff of doom is possibly damaged, I just feel so devastated right now. I let out a sigh and look upwards to the night sky. I just want to go back home to Avalon.Soon I get tired of staying at the beach and return home."Hi Delilah!" Denise greets me from the living room when I step in."Hi," I reply and walk toward the staircase leading to the room. I can feel Denise's eyes on me the whole time. I stop and turn to her. "Is anything the matter?""Uh... No," she replies, shaking her head. "You just seem di

Delilah's POV"I saw him. I heard his voice, I saw him!" I say in excitement and look at Cecile.A wide smile sits on her face and she has a look of hope on her face. She walks up to me and holds my arms. "We can go back home. I know we will find a way."I nod and hold her too. When Cecile called me earlier to say that the orb of doom had started to work, I was a bit anxious. I didn't know what to expect, but being able to have a glimpse of Avalon through this spherical glass, I feel we have a big shot at this. Turning to the oracle, I say, "Let's try again."She shakes her head and stands up from her chair. "It won't work—" "What? Why?" I cut in. "Let me finish..." she replies and adds, "The orb is fine. The problem has to be from the staff of doom. If it's damaged, your people at home need to have it fixed for you to communicate with them." I look sideways at Cecile, my hope, weakening. She holds my hand and I turn back to face the oracle. "We will try again tomorrow."After we

Delilah's POVThe images in the orb of doom remain faint. Despite the oracle's effort to conjure a clear view of Avalon in the spherical glass, nothing works. I let out a sigh and step away, disappointed.Cecile joins me as the oracle continues trying to make the orb work. Her hands are placed firmly on the glass and her eyes are closed. I laugh at the fact that I actually believed this would be easy. Part of me thought that I would meet with the oracle, tell her the problem and she would just solve it with her magic."This isn't working," I tell Cecile. She looks equally as sad."Vivian?" she calls to the oracle. The lady doesn't answer for about three minutes before she stops with her chanting. She puts her hand down from the table and turns to us."I will need some more time to make the orb work. You can connect with Avalon only when a clear image of it forms in the glass. Go and come back tomorrow."Cecile and I are filled with disappointment. We both thank the oracle for her effo
