ALFRED POV

Crack.

The howl of pain that followed was loud enough to send the birds flying off the trees.

Then with a final thrust, he aimed a punch at me, but missed and sensing defeat, he slumped on the ground and shifted back to his human form.

I stared at him in disgust and wondered if any wolf nowadays do call themselves a warrior, for this was a disappointment.

“Alpha.” Marcus called out and hurried over to where I stood, still staring at the defeated shell of a man. “What happened? We heard your howl from miles away and we thought—”

“Please don’t say I was in trouble,” I cut in sharply, “that will be an insult.”

“Well….” Marcus drawled as his eyes danced around the rogues sprawling in pain. “I knew you weren’t the one in trouble, but we still couldn’t help it.”

“And…?” I asked with my brow up. “You ran as fast as you can?”

“Yes Alfred, I did.” Marcus replied indignantly.

We stared at each other briefly and suddenly, we doubled up in a fit of laughter.
