Chapter 6

At the room where Hazel and her parents are...

When she heard a voice coming outside of the room, Hazel trembled a little. She looked up at the man who was standing in front. She was her Grandfather, This grandpa of her had never seemed concerned about her existence since she was born.

Albert Young her grandfather was never even looked at her when she was born, because she was a girl. Now he and his son William Young was going to choose her husband and make a decision that would affect the rest of her life.

Hazel breathed heavily. She was angry and frustrated and helpless as she opened her mouth to complain, but suddenly she saw her father Kenneth Young on the side shaking his head at her, begging her with his eyes. So that she didn't say anything and shut her mouth.

"Good afternoon everyone, after a selection process by our family, we have chosen the best one to be Hazel's husband. I hope everyone here will give their utmost bless to the new couple!"

With that proclamation, everyone clapped their hands.

To Hazel, this proclamation was mocking, and insulting her.

Her eyes and face were turning red, as she struggled to keep her tears from falling down.

"Dad, we have chose this man."

William Young took out a perfectly designed card and passed it to his father Albert Young. The name written on it was their final choice.

They had checked carefully already. This guy had no background to speak of, an homeless, with a little late on his twenties, no educational background, no skills etc., - anyone who could saw him could say he could be considered a completely useless man.

Then, after this man will married to Hazel, on top of cutting ties to the Young family. Even if they were considered a Youngs they could forget about taking a single cent from the Youngs!

William Young looked at Hazel and her family seated in front. There was a moment of glee and mocking on his face.

"Everyone, I would like to announce the man we chose to marry Hazel!"

Albert Young was longsighted and couldn't see clearly, so he take his eyeglasses and looked carefully at the card before announcing, "It's this young man, Jae Gray!"

The moment the Jae's name was announced, everybody turned to look at the back door of the room.

After all Jae Gray was marrying into the family, so of course he could only walk in as he heard the announcement of his name.

The door opened, a man walked in.

Kenneth Young and his wife Dana couldn't bear to look. They already knew that William Young would definitely choose the worst and the most useless man to be their daughter's husband. But Hazel turned to look. She wanted to see who would become her husband.

Jae Gray looked up and met her eyes, but didn't said anything. He just walked casually right the hall and everyone was looking at him cautiously. Strangely the expression on his face seemed mocking, as well as some cold.

"Jae Gray, the young lucky man congratulations for making it as Hazel Young's husband and marrying into the Young family."

William Young smirked, "You don't have to thank us, we just hope that you will take good care of our girl Hazel."

To him, Jae Gray should be eternally grateful to the Young family for giving a homeless man like him a home.

William Young walked over to Hazel and gently took her hand, his face full of care and concern.

"Come along, my girl."

He took Hazel's hand and brought her in front of Jae Gray, then placed her hand on Jae Gray's hand.

All the invited guests started clapping again when they saw this moment, as if they were attending a blissful engagement ceremony.

But Kenneth Young and family knew that they was just laughing at them!

For sure this event will be the greatest news tomorrow, all of Rock city would know that a man had married into the Young family as Hazel Young's husband, and it was going to be the talk of the town.

Hazel's mind went blank, as if she had been completely dried out.

She couldn't seem to hear or see anymore, and didn't even know what time the event ended.

Once the event ended, Dana Young immediately left crying, while Kenneth Young quickly walked along after her.

At the event hall entrance, a cold wind blew on her face and Hazel came to her senses.

She looked at Jae Gray who was standing next to her. Her face was expressionless, but her voice was low.

"Mister, I don't blame you or what." She continued, "You are to be pitied too."

Jae was five years older than her, so it seemed reasonable to call him mister instead.

Jae didn't say anything and he hadn't said a word all day.
