With the cold breeze hitting harshly against her window, Charlene could barely get any sleep. The night was long and dawn was slow in coming. She had slept for what she believed was hours and had awakened, only to find out that it was just a little past midnight. It had been almost two hours and she had been unable to go back to sleep. She tossed and turned, trying to get comfortable but sleep continued to elude her. Her mind was occupied with thoughts of one person - Calvin Moss. With her father's plan, she had been able to find out that he was a werewolf. Charlene suddenly sat up, baffled by how she didn't manage to notice from the beginning. Werewolves always masked their scents, so much that other werewolves couldn't detect them in a crowd. However, Charlene had always been able to tell. If she didn't witness how he had reacted at the park, she could have sworn that he wasn't a werewolf. What bothered Charlene the most was what her brother had claimed to see on the night of the
The meeting at the Pentagon lasted till about four in the morning. By this time, everyone was already exhausted. While Lucille was obviously looking tired, Mark could barely keep his eyes open and Rufus didn't even try. Calvin was rounding up the meeting when they heard Rufus' snores. "Alright. I think I've taken too much of your time" Calvin said, standing up. Phiri hit Rufus' arm, making the big man jump as he was startled. He groaned and complained about being very tired. Phiri tried not to laugh at how quickly Rufus went back to sleep."Are we to meet again later in the day before addressing the people?" Lucille asked. "Absolutely" Calvin answered her with a nod. With that, he ended the meeting and permitted everyone to go get some rest. The floor had several rooms and Calvin realized that he was yet to take a tour of the building. He made a mental note to do that some other time. When everyone else had left the conference room, Phiri led him to a huge bedroom which obviously b
It was night and under the bright moonlight, Phiri found herself atop a hill overlooking a very vast valley. The grass was soft under her feet and the breeze was in her hair. It was a beautiful place. She could hear distant chattering and when she looked into the valley, she saw people going about their lives. She wondered what they were all doing there. She could see no houses, no cars and she observed that these people were strangely dressed. Phiri was still trying to understand the scene before her when the moon suddenly darkened. She was going look up to see what had caused the sudden darkness when she witnessed the unimaginable.Like a heavy downpour, coals of fire fell from the sky, raining on the people that were in the valley. In horror, Phiri watched the people burn. If she was going to count, these people would number into hundreds. Probably a thousand, she guessed. She saw men, women and children covered up in flames. Phiri wished she could help these people, but her feet
When Phiri was sure that the others were already awake, she finally left the room she had slept in and joined them at the lounge. The smell of food hit her nose as soon as she got there. She was about to ask where the smell of food was coming from but then she spotted Rufus lying flat on the floor, looking sick. "What...?""He's suffering from a hangover" Mark informed her from where he was sitting. "He had more than a bottle last night.""Oh" Phiri nodded in understanding. "Good Morning" Mark greeted her and she responded, smiling halfheartedly."You don't look so good either" Phiri heard Lucille's voice from behind her and when she turned, she saw that it was the woman who was eating so early. "Lucille's right" Mark seconded. "You look pale.""She always looks pale" Rufus managed to say. "Why not focus on getting better, Rufus?" Lucille asked him. "Goodness! I can't believe that even Calvin has more tolerance for alcohol than you do.""Stay out of my business, Lucille" Rufus war
From the topmost floor, the Pentagon watched as the werewolves were assembling at the parking lot. It wasn't even five yet, but there was already a gathering crowd and their loud murmurings could be heard. The humans in the building, working for Rex Holdings, wondered who these people were and why they were assembling. Someone from the HR department had come to inform Lucille about the situation and she just dismissed the man.The humans had always been suspicious about who their boss really was. There were many speculations as to where Roman got the money to create such an empire. Another thing the humans were suspicious of, was what went on at the topmost floor. None of them were allowed to go there as it was a restricted area. They all knew Roman to be a quiet, yet prolific business man. They were suspicious of the four people he surrounded himself with, but no one knew what business was going on between them.Even Roman's secretary knew nothing about his private life. Her job be
The sun was already setting by the time it was six and the people were getting impatient. Adrian had managed to push his way through the crowd that he was now almost at the front. He did that because he needed to hear everything that would be said. Unlike all the werewolves present, he didn't have super hearing ability, so there was no way he would have heard anything from the back. With the hoodie covering his face, he tucked his hands into his pocket, waiting for the Pentagon to come out.The sun had almost disappeared from the sky when the Pentagon made a grand entrance. With two alphas flanking him on each side, the grand alpha made his way out of the building and stood a good distance away from the people. Adrian raised his head to look at Calvin. He looked so different from how he looked on the night of the festival. His look commanded deep respect and he was exuding a frightening aura. Adrian had been in the same room as Roman, but he never felt this way with him. Calvin was
The three seconds silence that came after Lucille's announcement was deafening. All that could be heard was the low whispering of the wind. Then came the murmurs, arguments and soon there was an uproar. Some of the werewolves had guessed that something had happened to Roman as he hadn't made an appearance in a whole month, but never would they have guessed that their grand alpha was dead. How? When? And so many questions were flying around. The Pentagon tried to calm the people but the crowd was out of control. Considering how much noise was coming from the premises, some humans had gathered outside the gates. It was just impossible to get in as the the gate was heavily guarded by huge men who the humans couldn't have guessed were werewolves. From the gates, no one could have a clear view of what was going on in the parking lot. Inquisitive reporters had already been called but no human could pass through the barricade that the werewolves had put in place. "What happened to Roman
With each passing second, Calvin could feel his wolf getting furious because of how the people were reacting. He managed to keep a calm front, knowing that it would be bad if he reacted. The situation was already bad as it was and he didn't want things to escalate further.Even as they stood before the people, the Pentagon were brainstorming. They were thinking of a way to calm the crowd and get out of this mess but, nothing seemed to be coming to mind. They understood the grievances of the people. Having someone who wasn't a full-born werewolf as grand alpha was demeaning for their race and a mockery of everything they believed in. The Pentagon knew that, but they were not the ones who had made this choice and Calvin had not become the Alpha wolf out of his own will. Fully aware that curious humans were right outside, the Pentagon knew that they had to stop all the noise.Phiri decided to step forward and share her vision. She had thought about it and she didn't think anything else
