7. Distracted!

Louis's POV

Everything in my life was finally running the way I wanted. Business stable. Employees terrified enough not to screw up. Silence in my office. No distractions. No chaos.

But apparently the universe enjoys screwing with me because suddenly everything feels like it’s turning and twisting like I manifested this shit myself.

First—Lisa.

The walking definition of temptation. The kind of woman God should’ve locked away from humanity. The kind that makes men ruin themselves without even trying.

And somehow she ended up as my secretary.

As if dealing with her wasn’t already a disaster I’m barely managing, now my mother has decided to make things worse. She’s suddenly obsessed with the idea that I need to “settle down.”

According to her, I’m at the perfect age to marry and produce an heir like a proper Wolf.

Every time she brings it up, I want to walk out of the room. Marriage. Heir. Family.

Do I want a wife and a child?

No.

Not even a little.

I don’t have time for that nonsense. I’ve never been the family type. I hate the idea of being tied to someone. I hate the thought of routine kisses, emotions, compromises, any of it. Marriage comes with commitment, and commitment feels like a cage. I’ve lived my whole life building power and freedom. Why would I willingly give that up?

But my mother isn’t entirely wrong. In my world, eventually, I have to marry someone suitable. Someone from a powerful family. Someone who brings political advantage, alliances, influence. Someone who will raise my heir and respect the hierarchy. Someone who understands roles, hers and mine.

And as a man, I’ll give her protection, a last name that opens every locked door, and a life most people can only dream of.

That’s how it works here. Marriage isn’t love. It’s currency.

People in my circle would laugh if anyone mentioned marrying for love. The higher you climb in society, the more obvious it becomes that power beats feelings. Luxury beats emotion every single time.

So I said yes to my mother. She can find the match. Whatever girl fits the mold. My mother is picky, ruthless, and obsessed with reputation. I know she’ll pick someone who ticks every box, quiet, polished, raised with manners, loyal to tradition. A woman who won’t challenge me or disrupt my life.

Basically the complete opposite of Lisa!

Lisa walks into my life like a storm every damn day. Beautiful. Bold. Innocent enough to look breakable but with enough fire to destroy a man if she chooses.

I’m hoping once the engagement process starts, I’ll finally get some distance from her. Maybe my attention will shift. Maybe her presence won’t drive me insane.

Because the truth is.

Lisa tempts me like a drug.

And I hate that I want her.

It feels like a tiger sitting in front of fresh flesh but can't have it . I know better. I know touching her would ruin everything I’ve built. But every time she walks into my office, self control becomes a damn war.

And today? She had to walk in looking like sin designed her personally.

Hair falling perfectly. Lips soft and distracting. That innocent confused look on her face like she doesn’t even know half the effect she has. That subtle cleavage showing just enough to make a man curious without giving anything away.

And her hips, fuck it!

The skirt hugging them looked like it was sewn onto her body. Every curve perfect. Every step torture.

All I could think about was shoving her against my desk, holding her hips, and taking her until she screamed my name and forgot how to speak.

My blood went straight south with one look. Pathetic. And she didn’t even try.

Then she opened her mouth, not to apologize for existing but to remind me of the meeting with Brooke.

Of all people… Brooke!

A charming bastard who treats women like collectibles. I know what he does. I’ve watched him lead women around like hungry puppies, feeding them compliments until they fall into his bed. He lies, promises fake futures, and when he gets bored, he throws them away.

Lisa doesn’t see it. And why would she? She looks at the world like it’s not out to get her.

She could make any man fall for her, especially someone pathetic enough to rely on flattery like Brooke. But he isn’t getting near her. Not when I’m in the picture.

If I can’t have her, no one will.

Call me a selfish bastard, I don’t care. I wear that title like a crown.

Then came the moment I could get the reason to fire her.  She stared at me with fire in her eyes. Not fear. Not submission. Fire.

She wanted to scream at me. Maybe slap me. Maybe stab me.

And God, I loved that look.

But I can't fire her just for that look, that preety mouth decided to keep quiet.

Not many people dare look at me like that. Most look at me like I’m a threat. She looked at me like I was a challenge.

Then Brooke started flirting with her, right in front of me. She was too innocent or too polite to shut him down. He kissed her hand like some smooth asshole from a cheap romance film.

My vision went red!

She actually thought she could go to his party after work. She has no idea what men like him do to naïve women like her. He wouldn’t even need words. Just one drink and she'd be in his control.

Not happening. Not while I’m breathing.

The “file emergency” was the excuse I chose. And watching her silently curse me in her head was… entertaining!

But she didn’t complain. She didn’t throw a tantrum. She got on her knees and started organizing like it was a mission she refused to lose.

How can someone look so beautiful while doing random things.

Only Lisa could make picking up files look tempting. Beautiful little bird!

For a second, I almost respected her intelligence until she decided to step on a stool. With heels!

Every time I think she can’t surprise me, she proves me wrong.

Sometimes I suspect she loses her brain the second she sees me.

Like earlier, when she randomly asked what perfume I wear.

Who does that?

She’s stupidly brave.

Half the time she looks at me like she wants to kill me.

The other half she looks distracted in a way I know too well, attraction she doesn’t want to admit.

What goes on in her head?

Does she ever imagine me the way I imagine her?

Or is she plotting ways to stab me with that stapler she’s always holding?

I’ll never know.

She lost balance, exactly as predicted. And before I could think, I moved. Fast. Faster than I’ve ever reacted to anything that wasn’t business or money.

My arm wrapped around her waist. My other hand caught her upper body. She gripped my shoulders like I was the only thing keeping her from hitting the ground.

And for a second, everything stopped.

Touching her felt dangerous. Like holding a match next to gasoline. Her warmth. Her softness. Her breath hitting my neck. Every inch of her pressed so close it was suffocating.

I shouldn’t have touched her. Should’ve let her fall and learn a lesson.

But now she’s in my arms and every thought in my head is sinful.

She smells incredible. Not perfume! She is natural, sweet and warm.

The kind of scent that makes me wonder how she would taste with her body shaking under me.

No woman has ever done this to me. No one. I’ve had beautiful women. Elegant women. Wild women.

But none of them feel like Lisa. None of them make my control slip.

She looked at me like she felt it too. Like she wasn’t scared. Like she wanted more.

And that’s where the danger is.

Don’t!

I almost said.

Don’t look at me like that.

Because if she keeps looking at me with that expression, curiosity, confusion, desire, I’ll lose the restraint I’ve spent years mastering.

It’s either walk away or ruin everything.

Pull back, Louis. Dam it!

Let her go!

Before you do something you regret!

But today it felt different. My heart started racing the moment I looked at the entrance.I stood there frozen for a second.People were going in and out of the building like every normal day. Not painfully, just that dull heaviness that comes after a night when your mind refuses to sleep even when your body is exhausted.I stared at the ceiling for a moment.Last night's memory hit me like a sudden flash. The gunshot. Siana falling. Blood. My stomach tightened instantly.I swallowed hard and closed my eyes again, but it didn’t help. Her face appeared in my mind as clearly as if she was standing right in front of me. The shock on her face before she fell and the silence after the gunshot.A cold shiver ran through my body.“I killed someone,” I whispered to myself.Even saying it quietly made my chest feel tight.I turned to my side and hugged the pillow. The guilt was still there. Heavy and uncomfortable, sitting somewhere deep inside my chest like a stone that refused to move. No ma

Her breathing turned uneven and shallow. Her chest moved rapidly as panic started building inside her.Louis knew that look. He had seen it before in people who had taken a life for the first time. Her mind had been running in circles ever since Siana pointed the gun at them, and now Louis suddenly appeared like he had been there the entire time. Her voice came out weak.“Louis…?”Her eyes moved over him carefully. Her chest was still rising and falling fast from everything that had happened. She looked at Jack beside her. Jack gave her a small nod. That simple nod made her heart drop.He knew.
