Chapter 4

Author: Southern Wind
I closed my eyes. I could not stop trembling.

As Monty and Yvonne pushed me to apologize, I said out loud, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked for a room all to myself. The company's money shouldn't be wasted that way. I hope that none of the employees will repeat my mistake and end up losing their jobs."

It sounded like an apology, but the words were like a slap to Monty and Yvonne.

The other employees started to feel insecure about their jobs after seeing what happened to me. They took the initiative to downgrade their rooms and refused to spend any more money. What was supposed to be a joyful team building became an event of unhappiness and complaints.

This no longer affected me, however. After getting back my identification documents, I moved to another hotel and had a good time enjoying the Huka islands.

It was not until I returned home that I found out Monty had initiated a blanket boycott on me within the industry. No company dared to hire me because of pressure from Monty.

When I returned to the company to pick up my things, there was no shortage of insults and taunting. Yvonne sat in my office while throwing a gleeful glance at me. She kicked a box next to her foot. "Rubbish like this should've been thrown out long ago, just like its owner."

I sneered and ignored her. She would soon come to understand that not just anyone could sit in the position she was in.

As I expected, it took less than three days for Monty to appear at my front door. I used to handle every project in the company, and I was confident enough that no one could take over them except for me.

Yvonne was already in over her head with the work she used to handle previously, and with her current position, she was even more inept at taking charge of client demands. Yvonne made mistakes in calculations and mixed up rules and regulations. It did not take long for the projects to be put on hold.

The project investors had pumped in money because of me. Now that the person in charge had been changed, they immediately put a hold on signing the contracts and declared that they would only sign if I returned to the company.

With the projects on hold and the investors pulling out, the company's financial chain was almost broken. Monty had no choice but to beg me. "Natalia, we're facing issues with the projects and investors you brought into the company. You need to come back to sort it out."

My tone with him was cold and distant. "I'm sorry, Mr. Livingston. I'm no longer an employee of your company. I have no right to handle anything in your company."

Monty paused for a moment before replying grimly, "But you were in charge of these projects. You need to see things through—"

Before he could finish, I stopped him. "Have you forgotten something, Mr. Livingston? You said that I used unscrupulous methods to win those projects and investors. If that's the case, I would suggest that you give them up for the sake of the company's reputation."

Monty screamed before I finished, "Impossible!" However, his tone softened when he saw the look on my face. "I know that you're mad about me firing you. How about this? I'll let you back into the company, and you can quickly settle all those problems."

I shook my head. "I'm someone who used despicable means to climb up the corporate ladder. How can I compare to your current marketing director who has true capabilities? You should see Yvonne about solving those problems."

Monty's face instantly turned red at my words. He tried his best to suppress his anger as he replied through clenched teeth, "Those were just mindless words that meant no harm. Why are you taking it so seriously?"

I laughed. "Why? You couldn't wait to fire me the moment we won those projects and pulled in the investors. You even refused to pay me my bonus of 100,000 and promoted Yvonne to my position. Was that all just a joke to you?

"Was it also a joke when you claimed I was wasting company funds for getting myself a room and when you threatened me by taking my identification documents?"

My words were like a slap to Monty's face. His face turned a brighter shade of red as he struggled to come to a decision. Monty might have considered giving in to me, but nothing came out of his mouth when he tried to speak.

I understood what he was going through. Monty had been working for my father for years. He was the best candidate to help the Carusos legitimize the family assets and manage the business. He had never given in to anyone besides the Carusos.

Just as he was about to let go of his pride, Yvonne arrived. She pulled on Monty's arm happily. "My dad has agreed to help us solve the problem, Mr. Livingston!"

Monty's eyes lit up instantly. "Really? You did great, Yvonne. I can't believe you managed to convince Don Caruso to help out. No one would dare go against him if he made a request. Promoting you as director was the best decision I made!"

He glanced at me condescendingly after that. "Do you really think the company can't manage without you, Natalia? You've been blacklisted in the industry by me. Prepare to be homeless!"

I replied stoically, "The company hasn't compensated me for firing me."

Monty lost his temper and questioned angrily, "How dare you ask for compensation? Our projects wouldn't have been put on hold if it weren't for you. Once the company stabilizes, I'll make sure to teach you a lesson!"

Yvonne stared at me like a venomous snake. "I'll make sure you'll have no place in Arendale, Natalia!"

Yvonne stopped begging, but her eyes were still filled with despair. After the Soldati dragged her off, I turned to look at Monty with a smile. "It's time to settle the score between us, Mr. Livingston."Monty stiffened as he looked at me. He was sweaty all over as he said in a panic, "P-Principessa, I was tricked by Yvonne too. You know how she threatened me by claiming that she was Don Caruso's daughter. I didn't dare to disobey her! I treated you pretty well all this time we were working together, didn't I?"His words made me laugh. "Treated me well? Do you mean how you accused me of using unscrupulous methods to pull in investors and win projects after I helped the company stand on its feet? "Not only did you fire me, but you also gave Yvonne my position and took my bonus from me while blacklisting me within the industry. Is this what you mean by treating me well, Mr. Livingston?"Monty looked extremely nervous. "That's not… I was forced to do it. This was all Yvonne's doing!

He looked at the Soldati impatiently. "I never want to see her appear in front of me again!"As the Soldati got close to Yvonne, she suddenly fell on her knees at my father's feet and started to cry. She grabbed his feet and refused to let go. "Don't do this, Dad. You were the one who brought me up. Can you really bear to abandon me just because I couldn't recognize my sister?"All I want is your approval. What did I do wrong? Why are you treating me this way? I know I'm wrong now. I'll stop harboring foolish hope of you acknowledging me as your daughter. Please let me stay by your side. Don't kick me out!"Yvonne wailed so hysterically that one would think my father was a villain who had abandoned his wife and children. Whispers started to echo in the room when she started making a scene."My gosh! How shocking this is! Yvonne really is Don Caruso's illegitimate daughter!""How can Don Caruso be so heartless? Yvonne is his daughter, after all. How can he stop her from calling him

I was smiling. "When you wanted the Carusos to teach me a lesson, it wasn't a problem for you, but when it's time to prove your identity, it suddenly becomes a problem? Do the Carusos change their principles so easily? "It's fine. Besides Don Caruso, I also know the Consigliere, Joe Cranston. I can get them to make a trip here."Yvonne knocked my phone out of my hand as she screamed while lunging at me, "Natalia, you bitch! Why do you have to be against me!"I frowned slightly and kicked her straight to the ground. This was something I should have done long ago.She stared at me in disbelief, her eyes blazing with fury. "Natalia, how dare you hit me! I'm Don Caruso's daughter! I'll make sure you don't survive the night!"The moment she said that, a strong, dignified voice rang in everyone's ears. "Whose daughter did you say you were?!"Everyone watched in shock as Soldati came flooding into the room to surround the hall. A powerful-looking man in a suit strode slowly into the

It made me wonder why Yvonne was so confident with her actions. Had she ever wondered what consequences she would face once she was exposed?I looked at Yvonne and asked coldly, "Are you really going to contact the Carusos?"Yvonne thought I was scared and replied gleefully, "Scared? Well, I'll give you a chance to spare you. All you need to do is kneel to me and admit you're a slut who's impersonating my sister. Do that, and you might find me in a good enough mood to forgive you."Also, you need to compensate me ten million as the price for impersonating my sister and bringing shame to the Carusos."I burst out laughing. "Do you know how cringey it is to listen to you talk about your 'dad' and 'sister'? Everyone knows that Don Caruso only has one daughter. You said it yourself that his daughter is overseas. So, where did you come from?"The silent room suddenly burst out with commotion when I questioned her."She's right. The Donna passed away not long after giving birth to the

Yvonne looked nervously at the crowd. There was a flash of panic in her eyes. "Don't listen to her. I do have an older sister who has just returned from overseas. She has never appeared in public before, which is why Natalia dares to impersonate her."I know why she's doing this. It's because the company found out she used unscrupulous methods to win those projects and fired her as a result. She's using this opportunity to get revenge on us. That ring must be fake too."Security! What are you waiting for? Throw her out of here!"However, there was only silence. That was when Monty quickly tried to back Yvonne up. "Yvonne is right. Natalia can't be Don Caruso's daughter. If she were really the Carusos' Principessa, why would she willingly work for me and cause such a fuss at the company over a bonus of 100,000? "She's nothing but a troublemaking bitch. Don Caruso could never have a daughter like her. It would be stupid of anyone to believe what she said. "Get her out of here! Na

I smiled. "Go ahead. I'd like to know how you plan to do that." With that, I closed the door in their faces. It hurt to see the research I did for those projects strewn all over the house. I had done so much to help build the company into what it was today, even rejecting my father's help. It never occurred to me that the company would turn its back on me just like that. What a joke I was. That was when Mona suddenly called me. "Natalia, I heard Yvonne went to cause trouble for you again. Don't go fighting head-to-head with her. Mr. Livingston and Yvonne are just momentarily blinded by anger. They won't really make things difficult for you on the job market…"I sneered. Those two were not good enough to threaten me.After I hung up, I went home to the Carusos. My father was surprised to see me come home. "Why are you home? Is it because of work? I haven't informed you yet, but I've got quite a lot on my hands recently. I won't be able to make it to the company's shareholders' meet
