Chapter 3

Autor: Ewan Ann
Ignoring Sandra's string of curses behind me, I walked straight toward a cab waiting on the street.

Once I was inside, I dialed Dad's private number.

"Sorry, the number you dialed is currently unavailable…"

A familiar robotic female voice sounded in my ear. It wasn't until then that I remembered that Dad was in Eropah for an important closed-door business deal. To keep the details confidential, all of his communication devices would be centrally managed.

The earliest opportunity I had to get in touch with him was three days later, at Lincoln Group's annual dinner event.

I gripped my phone tightly.

Fine. If that were the case, I would just let these clowns continue to make fools out of themselves for another three days.

I didn't stay idle for the next three days. I used my connections and began to look into Remy's background, and what I discovered was nothing short of hilarious.

Remy wasn't Dad's illegitimate child or anything. Instead, he was just the grandson of one of Dad's distant cousins, twice removed, who grew up in the country.

He had spent his days idling away without ever going to work, and his family shamelessly begged Dad for a job.

Since they were somewhat related, Dad casually told his subordinates to give Remy a low-level position at Lincoln Group's branch office in Waverton so he could gain some experience.

However, Dad's subordinates had misunderstood him. Remy also intentionally kept his explanation vague, implying that he had been sent by the "higher-ups" to join the management team.

Karen had always been a snobbish opportunist eager to curry favor with people with power and influence. She never bothered to verify his identity, yet she was already fawning over him and treating him like royalty at the branch company.

Remy just went with it, readily accepting the position and believing that he was the heir to the company, lording over everyone here.

On the third afternoon, I was in my apartment organizing the evidence I had collected when my doorbell began ringing urgently and relentlessly.

I opened the door and saw two uniformed policemen standing outside.

"Are you Alex Sutherland? Someone reported you for allegedly stealing Lincoln Group's confidential trade secrets. Kindly follow us to the police station for further investigation."

I cocked an eyebrow, instantly grasping the situation.

I guessed that those major clients refused to continue working with the Waverton branch of Lincoln Group the moment they realized that I wasn't working there anymore. Remy and Karen probably couldn't handle it, so they decided to pin the blame on me instead.

I didn't resist and cooperated fully with the police, following them to the police car.

Upon arriving at the police station, I immediately spotted Remy sitting in a chair with a leg crossed over the other. Meanwhile, Karen and Sandra were sitting on either side of him, fawning over him like loyal lapdogs.

The moment they saw me being escorted in, Karen jumped to her feet and screamed, "That's her, officers! This vile, vicious bitch is the one who did it!

"She held a grudge against the company after getting fired and didn't just delete the company's core client information. She even sold confidential trade secrets to our competitors!"

Next to them, Sandra wiped her tears. Her acting was quite convincing.

"I've always treated you well, Alex. How could you have responded to our kindness by committing such heinous acts? How could you do this to the company?"

Remy stood up, straightened his suit, and walked up to me. His eyes were filled with a smug, gloating, and malicious look.

"I gave you a chance, Alex. But you didn't take it, so you can't blame me for being ruthless with you. You stole trade secrets worth tens of millions of dollars. That's more than enough for you to be put behind bars for the rest of your life!"

I looked at him like he was an idiot.

"Is your brain filled with mashed potatoes or something, Remy Lincoln?

"Those clients were relationships I had cultivated long before I joined the company. They have absolutely nothing to do with Lincoln Group.

"As for the trade secrets? I wouldn't even take it from you if you begged."

The officers interrupted our argument and brought me into the interrogation room.

Two hours later, I was free to leave the police station without any consequences.

Remy's expression immediately changed when he saw that I wasn't being charged or detained for anything.

"Officers! How could you just let her go like that? She's a spy! A corporate spy!"

The lead officer glared coldly at him.

"We've already verified the allegations against Mr. Sutherland, and the evidence is conclusive. Those clients are indeed his personal connections. Furthermore, there is no evidence that he stole any of your company's trade secrets.

"On the contrary, you are all now being investigated for filing a false police report."

The officer had deliberately emphasized the title "Mr." when he addressed me. Hearing that, Karen's eyes widened into saucers, and she pointed at me as though she'd just seen a ghost.

"Mister? Officer, you must be mistaken! She's clearly just a flat-chested woman!"

I walked up to Karen and looked down at her condescendingly.

"You don't even know the gender of your employees, do you, Ms. Beech? Some HR manager you are."

  • Firing Me From My Dad's Company   Chapter 10

Half a year later, the weather in Waverton had become a lot cooler.Business performance at the Waverton branch had steadily improved over the months, and I had also gradually begun taking over some of the core business from Lincoln Group's headquarters. One afternoon, I had just finished an important international video conference when my assistant, Susie Frost, knocked on my door and entered."Mr. Sutherland, this is the strategic plan for the next quarter. Kindly review them at your earliest convenience."I took the documents from her, scanned through the report, and signed my name on it."By the way, Mr. Sutherland," Susie continued, a hint of hesitation in her voice. "We received a call from Waverton Prison earlier. They said that several inmates wanted to see you."My hand paused for a second.I asked, "Who are they?""Remy Lincoln, Karen Beech, and Sandra Leach."I leaned back against my executive chair, the images of those three despicable faces resurfacing in my mind.

As Remy's, Karen's, and Sandra's wailing and howling faded into the distance, a deathly silence settled over the venue once more.Everyone held their breath, afraid to even utter a single word—especially the other employees who had previously sided with Karen in the company's Slack channel and joined her in criticizing me. They were all ashen-faced, wishing they could sink into the ground and disappear.Dad turned around, took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself down. Then, he walked onto the stage and picked up the microphone."Ladies and gentlemen, I sincerely apologize for subjecting you to such an unpleasant scene today. This incident was the result of my negligence in management, letting a handful of vermin into the company to create such a mess."He then paused, his gaze becoming increasingly proud as he pointed at me."However, I must formally introduce you all to Alex Sutherland, my biological son and the sole heir to Lincoln Group!"He concealed his identity and joi

Remy looked like all of his strength had been drained away. His lips trembled violently, and he couldn't even form a proper, coherent sentence for a long time."I… I never impersonated anyone… T-They were the ones who misunderstood…"He tried to make a final attempt at justifying his actions, but his weak argument sounded ridiculous in the face of irrefutable evidence.Karen finally recovered from her pain and shock. She remained on the ground as she crawled over to Dad's feet and hugged his legs, ignoring her swollen cheek as she cried, "Mr. Lincoln Senior! I can explain! It's all just a misunderstanding!"It was Remy! He was the one who kept implying that he was your son! We've been deceived by him this entire time!"We really didn't know Mr. Sutherland's true identity! If we knew, we would never have had the guts to do anything to him at all!"She wept and wailed loudly, trying to pin all of the blame on Remy.Sandra also fell to her knees in fright, sobbing as she exclaimed,

Dad's steps were hasty and carried an undeniable air of power and authority.Seeing this, Karen and Sandra assumed he was coming to deal with me personally, and their eyes gleamed with excitement. They rushed forward, buzzing around Dad like two tiresome flies."You're finally here, Mr. Lincoln Senior! Alex Sutherland has been nothing but a disgrace to our company!" Karen said, spittle spraying everywhere as she spoke."He didn't just slack off. He even stole company trade secrets to sell to our competitors! And after he was fired, he shamelessly sneaked into our company's event just to trash up the place and cause trouble for us!"Sandra chimed in with a look of feigned concern and distress, backing up Karen's statement. "That's right, Mr. Lincoln Senior! Having someone like that around is nothing but an eyesore! Just now, he even injured Mr. Lincoln just because he knew Mr. Hardin!"Karen then began exaggerating things, finally unleashing her trump card."Did you know, Mr. Linc

Guests dressed in elegant suits and evening gowns mingled inside the event hall, the lights gleaming and reflecting off their jewelry.Max pulled me straight to the front, where all the core VIPs were seated. The surrounding executives and businessmen immediately flocked around him to flatter him and get on his good side as soon as they saw him. However, when they saw me sitting next to Max, dressed casually like I didn't belong there, they gave me weird looks.Obviously, the rumors that Karen had spread had taken hold of them."Isn't that Alex Sutherland from the company's sales department? How did he manage to get in?""I heard that he was fired for stealing. How does he still have the nerve to show his face?""Why is Mr. Hardin sitting next to a person like him? Has he been deceived?"I caught the gossip and whispers, but I didn't respond to any of them, not even with a frown. Instead, I picked up a glass of red wine from a passing waiter's tray and took a sip.Meanwhile, Ma

A roar startled the security guards, causing them to stop abruptly in their tracks. The young man removed his sunglasses, revealing a face marked by arrogance and recklessness. It was Max Hardin, the son of the wealthiest tycoon in Waverton, and also my childhood best friend. He strode up to me and gave me a good once-over. Then, he asked, "What's going on, Alex? Getting bullied by a couple of stray dogs on your own turf?"I shrugged, my tone flat as I replied, "There are just too many mad dogs about these days. I forgot to check my horoscope before going out today."Remy obviously didn't know who Max was. He frowned and looked at him impatiently."And who the hell do you think you are to meddle in my, Remy Lincoln's, business? I'm telling you, I am the sole heir to Lincoln Group, and Richard Lincoln is my father!"You'd better get lost if you know what's best for you! Otherwise, I'll also kick you out of here!"Max was taken aback for a minute. Then, he burst into loud, uncon
