Chapter 9 How Would You Like to Take Responsibilities

Paige's assistant gave her a push, signaling her to calm down so that she wouldn't be carried away by her agitation, and said, "Paige, you're up next!"

The door to the exhibition hall was opened and the person in charge walked out. Paige pretended to fix her hair and was ready to go in for the audition.

However, the person in charge turned to everyone and announced, "Let's call it a day now. You may all leave. We have found our brand spokesperson and our hostess."

"What?"

Everyone was struck numb. They'd only interviewed one person, so how...how could everything be settled already?

"That's right. Jessica Bush will be both the spokesperson and the hostess."

"Impossible!"

"That's not fair!"

The person in charge tried to keep the crowd in order with his men, and said with his voice raised, "This is our president Mr. Maddox's personal decision. It won't be changed!"

"Mr. Maddox?"

"Paige, you know Mr. Maddox, don't you? Go talk to him. We prepared for this for so long and haven't even had a shot..."

Pushed around by the crowd, Paige was blushing from her cheeks all the way to her neck. How would she know Christian Maddox...How would Christian Maddox know who the hell she was...

People immediately understood what was going on when they saw that Paige couldn't even say anything. Not daring to glare at the person in charge, they glared at her instead to vent their anger.

"Look at that bragging loser!"

Taking no regard of the fence-sitters, Jessica Bush went outside to wait for the elevator. Just as she came to the end of the hall, however, a long arm suddenly reached out and dragged her aside.

"Recognize me now?" The man's voice was deep and magnetic.

Raising her head, she met the dark narrow eyes of Christian Maddox, and nodded.

A touch of joy seemed to be lurking in Christian's eyes. "Who gave you the guts to ask a random guy to take responsibilities?"

He was referring to her mistaking him with Wade Maddox...

Well, it was not her fault; his whereabouts were always such a secret that few people knew what he exactly looked like, and that the two brothers looked so alike!

But Jessica didn't say that out. "Does Mr. Maddox want me to take responsibilities now?"

"How would you like to take responsibilities?"

He meant it for real?

Yet Jessica was not afraid. "Just ask for anything."

Christian held her hand in his own broad hand, and said, "Come with me!"

He drove her home, took out her social security card and got back into the car. Jessica still felt somehow surreal.

But what was even more surreal was yet to happen.

Christian took her directly to the City Hall and went through the VIP entrance. Twenty minutes later, she had the first marriage registration in her life.

Right before they stamped the registration paper, Christian looked her in the eyes and said, "It's not too late to regret this."

Jessica's eyes met his in all seriousness.

Based on her several interactions with Christian, he was a true gentleman despite his apparent grimness. He was so many times better than that a*shole Adam Smith.

Choosing Christian Maddox would be her first step away from her past unrequited infatuation!

"There is just one thing that confuses me," she said.

"Ask away."

"As distinguished as President Maddox, you don't need to ask me to take responsibilities, and tie me down for life just because of the one night we spent, right?" She lifted her pretty oval eyes and looked carefully at him.

There was not one unneeded sign of expression on Christian's face. "The Maddox Group needs a hostess."

The indication was that it didn't matter whether they had feelings for each other.

Jessica was not surprised, but...

"Why me?"

Christian looked at the raised little face that was smart and prudent, his narrow eyes glimmering. "You came to me first, so why not you?"

Their eyes locked. Three seconds later, Jessica smiled. "Okay, I won't regret it!"
