Chapter 2

Author: The Wealthy Louise
I was stunned.

He actually thought I was jealous!

Jealous because of what just happened?

True, anyone would say I was desperately in love with Bruno, what with how I was practically a doormat when it came to him. In reality, I would have treated my boyfriend all the same, no matter who he was.

Even Raine, who was simply watching this mess in the beginning, started to panic when she heard me say I was selling my shares.

"Ms. Lawson, if me being here bothers you, I can resign from the company. I promise never to show up in front of Bruno ever again. Will you be happy with that? Don't let jealousy cloud your judgment!"

Her words left me genuinely confused. I could understand why Bruno said I was jealous, but why would Raine say the same thing?

Hadn't I already told her I would swap with her at the wedding earlier? I even had the wedding dress urgently changed to fit her size.

She knew all of this.

But before I could give it a good thought, Bruno had already snatched my phone and put it in front of me. In a cold voice I had never heard him use, he demanded, "Delete the agent's contact, and I can still forgive you. If you don't, you can forget about the wedding!"

I reached out for my phone and looked at him with mixed feelings. Did he really think I wouldn't simply add the contact back after deleting it?

However, I couldn't afford to lose my temper because of my health.

And so, to keep Bruno under control, I forced myself to feign obedience and followed his demands.

Bruno heaved a sigh of relief when he saw how subservient I was. Finally, he softened his tone and said, "Aelia, don't overthink. If I didn't love you, why would I marry you? What you said today hurt me deeply."

He paused before continuing, "Raine and I are going to stay somewhere else for a while. Stay here and reflect on what you did. Don't do something like this again."

Raine followed him out.

Before leaving, she said to me in a mockingly charitable tone, "At least you know what's good for you."

The door creaked before closing, leaving me standing there alone.

I sighed. I should have known I could only count on myself in this world after my father died.

A night's rest later, I got in touch with the agency again.

I held a significant amount of shares. Not only were the other shareholders keeping an eye on them, but even those who weren't shareholders beyond the company wanted them as well. In just a few days, someone had already bought the shares at double the market price.

I could have waited longer and sold them for even more, but I refused to waste a second more. I didn't want to watch Bruno and Raine enjoying their affair again, not even for a minute.

As soon as the money listed on the agreement came through and paid the agent's fee, I immediately began the process of going overseas. While waiting for the approval to come through during the next week, I transferred all my assets abroad.

The entire time, Bruno didn't contact me at all. He made good on his threat to teach me a lesson.

Soon, came the day I was to leave. I packed up my things and then reached for my family photo. As I was about to put it into my suitcase, the door to my home was suddenly kicked open with a vicious bang.

Bruno stormed in, furious. Without wasting any moment, he exploded on me.

"You're really something else, you know that?!

"Fine, I've been ignoring you for a while, but is this the way you want to start a fight with me? Do you have any idea how humiliating it was for me to beg and borrow money this past week? At first, I thought the other shareholders were selling their shares together just to punish me.

"I never thought it would be you!"

His reaction caught me by surprise.

Still, it was true. If Bruno wanted to remain the chairman, he had to buy my shares. If anyone else got the shares, he would no longer have authority over the company.

Since I was leaving today anyway, I didn't want to make things worse.

And so, I tried to reason with him. "The shares and money have already changed hands, and you truly own the company now. Everyone got what they wanted, right? Besides, I need the money for my treatment."

Though my illness could be cured, I had always thought the company was doing badly, and that Bruno had to suffer for it. Thus, I never asked him for money to help cure my ailment.

Never had I imagined that to Bruno, everything I had belonged to him. He saw what was mine as exclusively his, no exceptions.

Even a stranger would worry about upsetting someone with a heart condition. Yet Bruno, despite knowing how ill I was, couldn't care less. He snatched my family photo from my hands.

"You're something else, Aelia!" he roared.

A loud crash followed.

Bruno smashed the photo frame to the floor, his face frosty. He even tried to pull the photo out of the frame.

My eyes went wide. That was the only photo I had of my parents and me!

My blood boiled as rage surged within me. I threw caution to the wind and lunged forward, grabbing his arm to stop him. "Are you mad, Bruno?!"

Yet, Bruno didn't even move. Instead, he took out an asset transfer agreement and a black pen and handed them in front of me. "Sign it!"

When I didn't respond, he scoffed.

"Looks like you won't behave unless I teach you a lesson!"

It wasn't that I didn't want to answer, but my throat had grown tight. Even breathing was becoming difficult. Despite this, Bruno tore the only photo I had to remember my family.

All because he wanted to vent his anger—to teach me a lesson!

I had little time to care about my grief; I collapsed at his feet, and my consciousness started to slip. My survival instincts were forcing me to beg him.

"Medicine… My medicine…"

Bruno remained heartless. He shoved the pen into my hand. I could vaguely hear his cold words.

"Sign this, and I'll give you your medicine."

That sudden, unexpected proposal left me stunned. Minutes passed, and I had no idea how long I stood there like a marionette, just staring at Liam's cautious face. He bit his lip, as if summoning every ounce of courage he had. Even though his heart was full of fear and uncertainty, he forced himself to say those words out loud. Finally, under his intense yet nervous gaze, I nodded slightly and uttered a single word: "Yes." That simple answer seemed to drain all the strength from my body. After I agreed to his proposal, I gradually calmed down. I started thinking about the future; after everything I had been through, I had finally figured out a lot of things. I understood now that as long as I could truly be independent and strong, I never had to fear being hurt by love again. Even if I spent a lifetime with him, I would never forget the precious embrace I received today. The moment I said yes, Liam held me as if I were something fragile. He was so gentle and careful. A

The moment one of those men's filthy hands reached for my chest, I didn't hesitate—I pulled out my stun baton and jabbed it right at him! While the others were still in shock, I went after the other four, one by one. Soon, the ground was filled with men howling in pain. All five of them lay there, twitching and convulsing. Without thinking, I took out my phone and called the police. It didn't matter who wanted me hurt, the police would get to the bottom of it. Meanwhile, at Liam's side… He was checking his chat with his beloved. When he saw the message that I was on my way to pick him up, he got so excited he started bragging to his friends. "See? My wife's coming to get me! Are you envious of me, you singletons?" One of his close friends nudged him with his elbow. "The gods will punish you for showing off too much!" "Yeah! You've got a girlfriend, but the rest of us will get one eventually!" someone else grumbled. Liam laughed like a little boy, then impatiently jumped

Time passed quickly. It was only a few days later that I found out what was being said about me online. Honestly, I couldn't care less. Whenever something like this happened, money could be used to clear up my name. Online gossip was full of smoke and mirrors. Who would truly keep paying attention to something so trivial? Bruno's attempt to use public opinion to pressure me completely failed, but his actions did provoke Raine. Lying in her hospital bed, Raine read the news on her phone, gritting her teeth. In the end, she completely snapped and hurled her phone onto the bed, cursing, "Aelia! You killed my child, and now you're trying to steal my man! I hate you!" The nurse who came in to change Raine's dressing just rolled her eyes. At first, she had almost believed Raine, thinking that Raine's hatred was because Aelia had killed her child. Now, the nurse was sure Raine was just jealous, since Bruno didn't love her. The nurse already knew about the online drama, so she was

"Everything you said is because you're upset, right? Someone as gentle as you won't ever say something like that!" he cried. Bruno looked at me almost pleadingly. It was the first time he had ever shown me that kind of expression…like when Liam nervously asked me if I had a fiance. But when Liam did it, it was charming. When Bruno did it, it made my skin crawl. I guess that was the difference when I love someone and when I don't. I firmly brushed his hand away. "From the day you used my life to threaten me into signing that agreement, there was nothing left between us." Bruno opened his mouth, but whatever he said now was useless. He had never imagined that someone who had once loved him so much one day would walk away. He had always thought that even if I found out about him and Raine, he would be able to talk his way out of it. Now, everything was different. If Bruno had to choose between me and Raine, he realized he couldn't give up either. So, he let me go. He did

My surprised gaze instantly fell on Bruno. Even the doctor was taken aback by the absurdity. He yanked Bruno's hand off his collar and said bluntly, "Stop talking nonsense." With that, he turned and went back into the operating room. He was only coming out to deliver the message, anyway. I watched Bruno go mad, banging on the door to the operating theater. "Save the baby, you hear me?!" Seeing him like this, I couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you a grad student? Where's your common sense? By law, you always save the mother first." Bruno froze for a moment, then looked at me lovingly. "Didn't you say you didn't like Raine? As long as we keep the baby and raise it together, you'll feel safe, right? If you want your child, we can have one as long as we get married. In the end, his is all your fault. As long as I don't press charges, you'll be fine. You have no choice but to marry me! Stop throwing a tantrum, okay?" The smug look on his face, as if he had everything under contr

Raine collapsed on the ground, her face frozen in shock as she screamed and clutched her belly. I could see blood trickling down between her legs. Immediately, I pulled out my phone in fright and called an ambulance. At the moment, people around us made their way as well. When life was on the line, I couldn't just stand by and do nothing, no matter how much enmity there was between us. Besides, there were so many eyes watching. As Raine was being loaded into the ambulance, I told Liam to go collect his award. After I insisted several times, he finally relented and didn't come to the hospital with me. Having something like this happen on such a happy day for him made me feel terrible. Liam saw right through me and comforted me. "It's not your fault. She brought this on herself. Just wait, I'll come find you when I'm done!" I nodded. In the ambulance, I called Bruno. The phone rang a few times before he picked up, as if trying to act all high and mighty. "So, you finally de
