Chapter 2

Shelby’s pov

I knew it was a possibility this could happen. I even told him this could happen. I am holding Ellie’s hand as we wait for word on if Ricky was ok. He flipped and flipped landed one last time and landed on his wheels. He still hasn’t climbed out of the car. We can’t tell from our angle if he is moving.

“Ellie look at me” I say. She hasn’t moved or said a word just screamed. “ he is going to be ok. He will be ok they are just talking to him” I wish I could promise that was true!

Ellie points to the track ambulance that was crossing over to where her brother’s car sat. “Ok it’s just a precaution”.

I wish that was the case there was still no word on his condition and they were working on cutting him free from the car.

“Ellie” it is Ian. “They are taking him to St. Malite Hospital. You should go meet them there”

I wip my head around and look at him and mouth how bad. He just shakes his head.

“Ok common Ellie” I drag her to the parking lot where Ian ushers us to his car.

When we get to the hospital Ricky had just got there and we got a glimpse of him being unloaded from the ambulance. Shock ran through my blood, he wasn’t moving his helmet was off and he was in a neck brace. It also appears that his right arm is broken.

Ellie trembled by my side as she took in her brother’s appearance. We follow the stretcher in to the waiting trauma room. They send us to the waiting room and that is where call there mom.

My hands were shaking when I held the phone to my ear “Shelby”!

“It’s Ricky” it’s all I could manage.

“I’m on my way”

Ten minutes latter Mrs. Andonite burst into the waiting room. She nods to me and she walks to the window to see if she can get an update.

They let her back to see him leaving me and Ellie waiting. “Hey” I squeeze her hand. “Don’t shut down on me I need to be strong Ricky needs you to be strong”.

She says nothing and stairs at the door her mom went through.

“Ellie Ricky is asking for you” Mrs. Andonite comes back through the door. Ellie doesn’t move she is like a statue a ghost of herself.

“Ellie” I say trying to coax her to move.

“I want to go home” she whispers. I close my eyes, I knew she was shutting down and the pain of realization is hitting hard.

“Okay I’ll take you” I stand offering her my hand. I give her mom an apologetic look and we walk to the car.

Ricky’s pov

My mom returned without Ellie confusion washed over me. My mom shook her head and gave me an apologetic look.

“She didn’t want to come see me did she. I just wanted her to know I was okay” the fact my sister left here without seeing me is making me nauseous.

“She is shutting down again isn’t she”

“I am afraid so” my mom just shakes her head.

The door to my room opens and the doctor walks in. “Hi I’m Dr. Morgan. I have your results of your test. You have a concussion and your right arm is broken in 2 places. We have already set the bones in your arm. So we will be discharging you soon. Do you have any questions for me”

“No thank you for taking care of me”

“Of course” and with that he is back out the door.
