Chapter 3
He drove with blind rage and anger clouding his senses, he was late for work, but he didn't care. It was his company and he could very well decide not to show up, those were the same words his wife had used, but had he ever thought of it like that? No. He had tried to be a good man, even as a child, taking on his father's legacy and even building his own.And life had seemed so beautiful then, at twenty two, he had met Ursula Aurthur at a family gala. He still remembered that night like it was yesterday, daughter of his brother's trusted business partner and a goddess in appearance. When he saw her then, he had felt it instantly that she was the one, and her smile had warmed his heart in ways that no woman had ever been able to.When they got talking, he got to know that she was a talented actress, since he was not one for movies himself, he didn't realize just how popular she was until his fans started asking for not only pictures of autograph of him, but also her own too. He had spent so long in the spotlight that he felt too happy to have a woman to share that game with then. That night, one thing led to another and they both ended up in his hotel room, drunk and naked. But even the realization of what they had done the next morning did not change his feelings for her, he loved and respected her regardless. But later on, Ursula admitted to him that she felt ashamed and cheap and so she had left that morning before he woke up.All his efforts to get her to let them meet or answer his calls and mails proved futile until she showed up at his door four weeks later that their one night had led to something that might wreck havoc on both the Xanders and Arthur's name if he didn't take responsibility.Ofcourse, Alex had been too happy to have the woman he loved pregnant with his child and so he saw this as an opportunity to make his intentions known. Ursula accepted his proposal and they married two weeks later in a talk of the town style. Those first few months were the happiest of his life until the bliss of new love and honeymoon would keep them in bed all day. He smiled just thinking of the moments. But the first blow came when their son was born with Down Syndrome, it caused a strain in their relationship and their new marriage. But gradually, Alex learnt to love the boy regardless and Ursula was beginning to do so too until she began going back to work, and that was when the greatest enemy in his marriage surfaced. Now, ten years later, he couldn't even see a future for the very family they had built together. And he just served the woman he loved above anything else divorce papers! He closed his eyes for a second and tried to imagine that it was all a stupid nightmare, and in that state of imagination, nothing else mattered except her pretty face smiling at him in their bedroom. The sudden cry of a little girl brought Alex out of his imagination. He tried to stop the car on time, but the screech of his tires against the tarred road did more to frighten the girl who stood transfixed in the middle of the road.Alex looked confused as the car went totally out of his control, he tried to hold the brakes, but the car ran straight towards the girl. It was too late to turn and too late to stop, he watched in horror as his car slammed hard against the little girl and heard her last cry of pain as her body hit the hard floor."He just ran over that little girl!""There has been an accident!"The car ran straight into the traffic pole and that was the only thing that stopped it from continuing into the express. Alex sat passed out in his seat for a few minutes, but the constant knock on the car door and the faint echo of people's voices brought him back to consciousness."Mr, are you okay?""He better wish he was dead because he just killed that poor girl with his fancy car!"Those were the words that greeted him when he looked up and the blurry images of the people outside his car greeted him, and then he saw where he was and the memory of what just happened had him pushing his door open. Alex grabbed his phone and dialed his Manager's number immediately, not knowing what to do.This was bad, he could already gear his brother's harsh voice in his head, this was bad. He waited for Arnold to pick and at the same time ran towards the where the little crowd now gathered around what he assumed was the girl's body.Arnold picked up on the second ring, "I would fire you right now if I was in the right place, but we will talk about that later." Alex said the minute the call connected, "I don't know where I am, but get the team ready and send someone down here, you preferably. I just got involved in an accident and I think I have just killed a little girl.""What? How?""You might see me in the news soon, until then, find me. And if you can help it, don't let Ursula know about this… or my brother. You will need to pay the reporters off, so report here right now!"When he reached the girl, he was shocked at how much blood she had lost, and even more confused as to how this was even possible in the first place. Why today? And what the hell had happened to his car? Gosh! He had to remember to send those stupid car supervisors away."Let's get her to the hospital!""What use is it? Can't you see the kid is dead?" A angry old lady growled at him, "You drunk drivers, your recklessness just cost the life of an innocent child!"The woman's constant outburst got the attention of the onlookers, who all turned to face Alex now. He realized then that he didn't have any glasses on, nor did he have any guards to protect him. He saw their eyes widened, and a handful of them even touched him to be sure."Is that not Alex Xander Jr?" The woman closest to him exclaimed."This is the CEO of Allure Art! It is really him, actress Ursula Xander's husband!"Immediately, cameras began to flash from left and right. Alex rolled his eyes and tried to keep his composure, hoping Arnold would show up soon enough. He tried to shove past the crowd to the little girl, but the women around him kept trying so hard to get a picture of him with them. Someone even planted a kiss on his cheek and another took his wallet right out of his pocket. There were just too many people and only so little he could do.The old woman beside him scoffed,"I knew he was one of them rich folks with that fancy suit. Well, looks like he just became a murderer too."Her voice was laced with so much hatred and disgust that he felt sick to his stomach. He pushed past the crowd and made for the little girl, when he finally managed to reach her where she still lay on the floor, with blood seeking from a cut on her forehead and more blood from her nose, Alex bent down and scooped her from the floor."Drop her!" A female voice rose above the rest and halted him immediately. He looked up to see a pair of green eyes watching him intently, he saw panic and genuine concern on that face too, which was more than he had seen from anyone in the crowd."What? Why?" He asked in quick succession.""I said you should drop her."He obeyed at first, thinking she was the girl's relative, and then he told her, "We need to get her to the hospital before she bleeds to death, if she's not already dead." He hated himself for adding the last part,"She will not make it to the hospital.""What are you? A seer?"She snatched an ID card from her bag, "Hayley Mikael, a fresh medical graduate."She pointed the ID in his face and then shoved it back into the bag then she gently snatched the girl from him and dropped her back on the floor before she knelt on the floor and took the girl's head on her lap."And what do you think you are doing?! Stroking her to sleep with the angels?"Without sparing him a glance, she replied, "This way, we will stop the blood from going into her brain and causing any possible clotting there. We have to stop the bleeding! Someone call 911"For a second, Alex was grateful and glad that someone who actually knew something about first aid was there to help. He watched the girl snatch a scarf from her neck and saw her rip it into two, she tied the first part around the little girl's head and then threw the next one at him."There's a wound on her leg, keep pressure on it!" She thundered. He obeyed and gently tied the scarf around the girl's leg, using the remaining part to hold the surface. True to her words, the bleeding from the girl's nose had stopped and there was no sign of more blood from the wound on her head."Can we take her to the hospital now?!" He asked her hopefully."Have you been listening at all? We don't knowif any of her vitals were hit, any further movement might cause her internal bleeding. They will have to treat her here first."Alex nodded his understanding. The blazing siren of the ambulance made him swallow his thanks. In no time, the ambulance team pulled up in their numbers and trooped out with their equipment. The girl was taken from them by the doctors and they started working immediately.Several minutes later, Arnold arrived with Alex's guards and was even fuzzing over him and managing the situation with the paparazzi when a doctor came out."How is she?" Alex asked immediately."I'm glad you handled the situation the way you did sir, any further movement would have killed her. But she is stable now, we are going to transfer her to the hospital and then you can make a statement at the police station until her parents show up. Thank you for not running, Mr Alex, and thank you for saving her.""Actually, it was Miss Hayley here…" he turned to look for the girl who had saved the day, but she was nowhere to be found.FOUR YEARS LATER~~~~00~~~~~(Had to give y’all an epilogue because I’m missing Alex and Hayley already.) "Come on, Klaus! Your dad is going to be late if you keep doing that!" Hayley chided her son as he ran into the bedroom."Dada!" Young Klaus called as he ran into his father's embrace. "Huh huh. That's not fair. You are supposed to say Mama." Hayley scoffed and crossed her arms over her chest as she eyed her husband and son. "Someone is jealous." Alex grinned as he kissed his son's forehead dottingly, "But you have to try to get in Mama's good books if you want her to feed you today until I'm back."As if understanding his father, Klaus clapped his tiny hands and said some baby words which ended in, "Maama!" "Yes! He finally said it!" She shrieked with joy and collected him from Alex, "He finally called me!" Alex watched both mother and son with amusement until a soft knock on the door interrupted them. As she handed the boy back to Alex and walked towards the door to open it,
Chapter 100"That was cold, telling them about me like that." Hayley chided Alex later that night as they lay in his room. Alex frowned, "Why?" She sighed, "Because you just lost your wife, Alex. And announcing that you are expecting a child with another woman and confirming that you have been cheating on your wife with her for the six months prior to her death is not cool at all." He rolled his eyes, "My wife was an ass. Everyone knows now.""Yes. But they didn't know she was an ass six months ago." She reminded, "You realize her people might try to use this as evidence against you in the court of law?" With a sigh, he held her face close to his, "I'm expecting that. I have a pretty good lawyer and he knows just how to handle things like this." He propped himself on one elbow and sat up, "You know, actually, I'm anticipating just how much money this court case will fetch me when I eventually win." "Pretty confident, huh?" "Yep. And I actually think suing me is a very foolish thi
Chapter 99The police came in on time to find Smith holding the gun while Hayley was retching all over the place from all that sight of blood and splattered brain. Smith was instantly handcuffed, even though he kept screaming like a mad man that he should be allowed to see his one true love. Alex was trying to hold Hayley, who didn't look like she could handle everything that was going on because he was sure that there was nothing left in her stomach that she could throw up. Smith had shot Sandy, and she was lying there dead with her brains scattered all over the floor. Everything happened in a flash, to think that the woman had narrated how he had used her for ten years and even confessed her feelings for him all those years only for him to end her life in a split second with a second thought. That only went to show how obsessed Smith had been with Ursula. The family had witnessed two murders in one day, heard the chilling confessions from two people they just didn't expect to be
Chapter 98It was only Hayley who was still herself among all of them. Alex had sunk into a nearby seat and was currently holding his head in his hands, silently staring into space. Claire herself was leaning against the wall and looking so downcast. Allan and Arnold looked like their tongues were tied and the doctor was only waiting for a go ahead from Alex to do what Smith had just said. "You have strong reasons to believe that Finn is your son?" Hayley asked Smith with an inquisitive frown. "I believe so.""And if you are wrong?" "The test will prove that." The confidence with which he spoke was that of a man who knew absolutely what he was saying. The doctor looked at Hayley and then to Alex, who looked like he was currently questioning all his life decisions. She gave the doctor a nod of approval to carry out the test, "I guess the result will have the answers." She stepped back as the doctor nodded and went into the ward, he returned with the necessary things needed to dr
Chapter 97Even though the shock of hearing Alex say he didn't want anything to happen to his child was still making Hayley's mouth hang open, she realized that seeing him being overprotective of her was better than any feeling in the world. But before she recovered from the shock, Alex was out the front door and was half running the rest of the way to his car. She ran after him and caught up with him, only to have him roll his eyes at her. He opened his mouth to tell her to go back but she shook her head, dragged the car keys from his hand and opened the car door, where she sat comfortably in the front and waited for him to join her. He did join her after sulking for three minutes, "You are too stubborn, Hayley. This is not good." "You said your son was in a critical condition, would you rather we remain here and argue than go to find out what is wrong?"He nodded his agreement and started the car, they drove out and covered the rest of the journey in an awkward silence, with Alex
Chapter 96The room she was out in had all the comfort, any other thing including food and water was brought in for her by a rather burly man who never smiled for once. There was a comfortable bed, a small seat and table with notebooks and a biro for her to write with, probably to keep her from losing her mind. But any gadget like mobile phone, laptop or even telephone was not allowed in her custody room. After the day he had caught and held her hostage, Claire had only seen Larry once after that and that was the evening of that day when he had come to tell her she should be comfortable but that he couldn't let her out. But she was losing her mind, not used to being locked up like this and certainly not used to being idle for so long. How did Larry expect her to remain locked up here and for how long? Surely he knew that the only way to keep her from talking was to kill her, and at this point, she didn't know if he would kill her. If he had managed to lock her up here for three da
❗️Trigger Warning❗️❗️This chapter talks about possible harm to a child and some other things that some might find upsetting! ❗️Chapter 95It didn't take up to a day for Sandy to find the paternity of Finn Xander. She sat in the car staring at the hospital she had just come out from, it was the same hospital in the paper that Smith had sent her, and she had been lucky enough to meet the same doctor who had attended to Ursula still working there. The bitch, she thought idly. She had managed to fool everyone all these years, thinking that no one would find out about all her evil schemes, she had smartly managed to get away with all that. But certainly, nothing is hidden under the sun, not even her stupid schemes. Fortunately, that doctor who had attended to her all those years ago knew too much, being that she had actually helped her carry out all her previous abortions and given her medical advice, Finn was her last hope for a child. Thanks to all that, even if Alex wanted to try fo
Chapter 94Smith stalked down the hotel hall with a very neutral mood. Ursula was away, which was one reason his mood was not so nice, he could already imagine all the things she would be doing with Alex while she was with him and none of that made him happy. But he was consoled by the fact that she had left a good portion of her belongings here, which was a clear indication that she would be back soon enough. So feeling bored himself, he decided to go to her room and make the most of the beautiful scent of her cologne which was still lingering there. The first thing his eyes caught was the pile of clothes on the bed which she had scattered in her haste to leave. With a sigh, Smith started folding and arranging the clothes into her traveling boxes all while humming a beautiful tune to cheer his mode. With Elizabeth this close to finding all the evidence that was needed to complete their plan, the thought of what would happen to Alex when all his plans fell into pleasant places was
Chapter 93Ghost That was all that kept ringing in Hayley's ears as she lay there on the cold floor, feeling the chill seep deep into her ribs. She had seen a ghost because she wanted to do something bad. How did she think she would attempt to destroy another person's home and get away with it? She could only hope that she was not dead at the moment. The irony of it, who would have thought that hell was this chilly? As she felt the sudden stab of pain in her abdomen, she winced, so she still had emotions too.Wow, hell was much more real than we thought. She managed to sit up, ignoring the thousand pains shooting up her body. By the time she was finally leaning her back against what felt like a cold metal, she shook her head and groaned. So she did finally end up in hell, Huh? Well, at least the punishment was better than damnation in eternal fire. "You are awake."That voice, Hayley's eyes shot open immediately, her vision was blurry but she waited until they adjusted to the blind
