Ayla’s POV

I paused, staring at the shards on the floor. Then I looked up to see Alex, my cousin. A glass in his hand, he looked at me and smirked. He was drunk.

“Oooops! Sorry cuz, I had no idea you’d be walking in.” He grinned and staggered back upstairs.

I stared at the sparkling shards blocking my path, my heart hammering against my ribs. What if the bottle hit my face, he could have blinded me.

With a silent sigh, I walked over to the utility closet for the heavy push broom and metal dustpan. I swept the heavy chunks, making sure not a single piece of glass remained. This was my routine: cleaning up their mess.

I climbed up the stairs, heading to my room. I passed by my guardians’ room and heard voices, like some sort of argument. I paused and listened.

‘What the hell, Lucas? How could you borrow money from someone that dangerous. That man will kill all of us!’ my aunt shrieked, her voice radiating with fear and worry.

‘Shut up, Rosalind! You have been basking in wealth all thanks to that same money, so do not dare raise your voice at me. Or do you think I have no idea about what you did five years ago?’ my uncle roared.

I have no idea what the argument was about, but who did my uncle borrow from? And what did my aunt do five years ago? I sighed and walked to my room.

Turning the knob, I walked in and slammed the door shut, double checking that I had shut it properly. I always ate dinner before I came back because there is usually no food left for me when I return.

I turned on the light, and looked around at the small space I’ve lived in for the past five years. The mansion had other better rooms, but my aunt thought this would be more fitting for someone like me.

I showered and lay on my small bed, curling up like a ball. The strange dream from earlier today replayed in my mind, but I shoved it aside and fell asleep.

The next morning was just like every other morning. I woke up, brushed my teeth, did house chores. I showered and got ready for work before heading downstairs.

I paused mid-stair and looked at them. The family of four were seated at the table, having breakfast, basking in the hard earned wealth of my family. I slowly came down the stairs and announced my departure.

“I’m off.” I announced. They ignored me, as if I didn’t even exist. Sighing numbly, I headed for the door, but Elena’s voice made me pause.

“Nadia, I’d like to ask,” she paused, clicked her tongue and continued, “how much does working in a bar pay you? Huh?” I could see the mocking grin playing on her face.

“Uhm… let’s see, probably pebbles and pennies.” Alex chimed in, they both burst into laughter. My eyes drifted to Alex, hatred burned my gaze.

He thinks I have forgotten everything he did to me. I turned the knob and stepped out, slamming the heavy door shut, briefly wiping off the tears that rolled down my face.

I boarded a cab and headed to the bar. When we arrived, I noticed that place was strangely quiet. The close sign was still on the door, it wasn’t meant to be that way.

I quickly stepped down from the cab, paid the driver and headed into the bar. Jaxon was already there so I walked to him and asked.

“What’s wrong? Why’s the whole place quiet? I asked.

“He’s here. He booked the bar.” He responded.

My brows shot up in confusion. “ I don’t understand, Jaxon. Who booked the bar?

“Lorenzo Romano.” He responded. My eyes widened in horror.

Oh God. Not again. Why does he keep coming here very often these days?

“Why is he here so early?” I asked.

“I have no idea, Nadia. I am as surprised as you are.” He murmured.

“Nadia.” I turned around as the manager approached. “Go and get changed. You will be serving Mr Romano today.” He didn’t wait for a reply, his heavy shoes thumping against the floor as he walked away. My blood ran cold.

Nadia’s POVMy trembling hands gripped my nightwear, squeezing the fabric tightly. He threatened to kill Clara just because I overslept a bit? How could anyone be so cruel?“Sit down, Nadia. Or do you want me to help you with that?” His voice broke the silence, startling me. I quickly slid into one of the seats at the table. I hadn’t even brushed my teeth yet. How was I supposed to eat without brushing?“Why aren’t you eating?” he asked suddenly.I gulped down the lump in my throat. “I haven’t brushed my teeth yet.” I murmured.“And you stayed in bed until I had to send a maid to wake you up?” “Um… I… I was feeling a bit tired, so I overslept,” I murmured. He leaned back against his chair, his eyes boring holes into my skin. “What do you think you are here for, piccola?” My heart skipped a beat. I looked up at him, my hand gripping the hard edge of the table. I bit down on my lower lip and decided to ask a question that had been haunting me for the past two days.“Why did you marry

Nadia’s POVMy body still shuddered from aftermath of the wedding today. He is just so brutal. After the ceremony , he ordered his guards to take me back to the estate, while he drove in a different direction with a different convoy. Now that I’m married to him, what next? Will he force himself on me? Because I definitely do not want that.He prepared an exquisite suite for me — lavishly decorated and just a few steps away from his own. I can’t even imagine what he actually has in store for me. A knock on the door startled me. I glanced at the wall clock and it was past midnight. I walked over and opened it. The maid who was assigned to me stood there, a bowl of fruit in her hand.“I’m sorry for bothering you, Mrs Romano. I noticed you didn’t eat anything for dinner, so I brought you some fruit,” she explained.I smiled at her. “Thank you, um—““Clara, ma’am, “she responded.“Thank you, Clara.” I took the bowl from her and walked back into the room.Taking an apple from the bowl, I

Nadia’s POVToday was my wedding day. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. A bride is supposed to be happy on her wedding day. But am I? No. Far from it.I was being forced to marry a monster who killed at will, and there was nothing I could do about it. I have no one to fight for me. From now on, I could only depend on myself.“You look extraordinarily stunning, Miss,” the maid who dressed me up whispered, her voice laced with awe.Scoffing bitterly, I looked down at the breathtaking white gown, heavily embedded with shimmering crystals. I couldn’t stop the tear that slipped down my eye, tracing a path through my makeup. I didn’t want this. I had never dreamed of marrying someone I didn’t love, and definitely not a man who was binding me to him for some dark, ulterior motives. He already threatened to kill Jaxon and Max if I refuse to comply. He knows that they were the two people left that meant the world to me, and he’s using them as leverage.“The car is ready, Miss,” the mai

Nadia’s POVI had not seen Lorenzo for two days. I hadn’t even heard his voice. Today marks the third day since I arrived in this place— wherever “here” was. He keeps me locked up in this room, feeds me twice a day. Even the maids who came to clean spoke to me in harsh, commanding tones, treating me like an intruder, rather than a guest.Staring out the window, I reminisced about what my life used to be when my parents were alive. It had been sweet, vibrant and safe. Now, I don’t even know what to call this existence. An abrupt, heavy knock struck on the door twice before it swung open. A guard walked into the room.“The Don requests your presence in his room. Please come with me,” he said, his tone sharp and intimidating. I swallowed the lump in my throat and walked toward the door, following closely behind him. This was the first time I had stepped out of the room ever since Lorenzo kidnapped me, and the sight that greeted me stole air directly from my lungs. The mansion was massiv

Lorenzo’s POVI had watched her every move for the past six days. I knew she was planning to escape. How stupid. Sitting down beside her on the bed, anger built up in my chest as I stared at the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen my entire life. My little sister should be around her age now, if only she were alive. Clenching my fist, I stood up and walked out of the room, leaving the ghost of my past behind.“Let me know when she wakes up,” I told Viktor. “Yes, Don,” he responded. “The ladies are in your room, waiting”“Oh?” A dark smirk curled my lips. I needed to release some serious tension.I climbed the stairs to my quarters and kicked the door open. Three women lay stark naked on my bed. “What are your names?” I asked, my voice devoid of warmth.“Mira, Vera, Lucia,” they responded, smiling seductively.“We have been waiting for you, Don Enzo” Mira said, crawling off the mattress. She walked toward me, her hands drawing teasing circles on my chest. I gripped her wrist, yanked

Nadia’s POV My heart hammered frantically against my ribs as I watched Lorenzo walk to my uncle and crouched down in front of him. “I want her. Consider it a repayment of your debt. Also, here is seven million dollars. Do not come for her in future, I’m paying you pretty well for her.” He said as he threw a check at my uncle’s face. My chest tightened. I couldn’t believe what was happening. My uncle crawled and picked up the check from the ground. “Yes, Lorenzo. You can take her, she’s all yours.” I looked at him, hatred burning through my gaze. Lorenzo walked toward me and crouched down, drew in his cigar and puffed the smoke on my face, “you belong to me now, but I will give you time to digest everything.” he said, tangling a strand of my hair in his fingers before grabbing my chin and pulling me closer to him. “Seven days, piccola. Crawl to me or I take you by force.” He whispered loud enough for everyone to hear, released my chin and straightened up, then walked out of
