Claire~

It's an unknown number.

The message is a gif.

My brows furrow as I tap it open, waiting for the gif to load.

Standing in front of a bathroom mirror, drenched in water that trails down his toned abs, is the man I have been trying so hard for days to forget about.

He looks sinfully handsome. No, breathtakingly alluring.

His dark hair is still damp and disheveled. Water beads cling to the sharp line of his jaw before disappearing down his neck. A white towel is wrapped loosely around his V line, revealing just enough to make the picture feel deliberately provocative.

He wears the same wicked smirk as he stares at me through the lense. One hand reaches below his waist. Although what his hand is doing isn't captured, but with the slow movement of his hand, my mind claims to know what he is doing.

My core stings and tingles as memories of that night sends heat all over me.

My cheeks flush from the sheer embarrassment when I realize just how much control his action has over my body.

No. No... I shouldn't be thinking about him that way.

He's my Stepson now!

How did he even get my number?

My fingers tighten around the phone until my knuckles turn white yet my eyes are glued on him.

Another notification pops up before I can recover.

Arthur: Miss what you see already, Mother?

The wine glass slips from my hand. It crashes onto the marble floor, sparkling wine splashing across my slippers and the balcony tiles.

I don't even flinch. As my eyes remain glued to the screen. On his looping gif, his message, and the three dots swimming by the corner, telling me he's typing.

Arthur: Or should I call you Claire when Father isn't around?

Cold dread settles in my stomach. He's toying with me. Every word is meant to remind me that our secret isn't buried.

With trembling fingers, I type a reply.

Me: Who gave you my number?

The typing indicator appears almost instantly. He must have been waiting.

Arthur: Interesting.

Arthur: That's your first question?

I stare at the screen without replying.

Another message arrives.

Arthur: I thought your first question would be whether I plan on telling Father how lovely you look without clothes on.

Arthur: Or how hot your tongue on my dick was.

My breathing catches in my throat. Heat rolls off me in waves.

Quickly, I mark all messages and delete them. But he's not done. He's typing faster than a tech geek.

Arthur: I remember every second.

Arthur: The sound of your moans.

Arthur: The bruises your nails left behind are still fresh on my skin.

Anger rush to my head. Or is it anger or anxiety?

I can't tell anymore as my fingers fly across the keyboard.

Me: Whatever happened before my wedding is over. Don't contact me again.

I should block him immediately. But for some reasons, I don't. I wait for his response.

This time, several seconds pass. Then...my phone buzzes repeatedly.

Arthur: That's going to be difficult.

Arthur: After all...

Arthur: ...we live under the same roof now.

Arthur: See you soon... Mother?

Arthur: One last thing... Mother?

Arthur: Don't make the mistake of blocking me.

Arthur: You don't want to know what I'm capable of just yet.

A chill crawls down my spine. This is bad.

Before I can think of a reply, a soft knock sounds on my bedroom door.

"Madam?"

I nearly drop my phone.

The maid's voice comes from the other side. "Mr. Westhall has returned home. He's asking if you'd join him for dinner."

My heart skips.

Instinctively, I glance back at Arthur's chat. His profile shows Online. Will he be there too? Does he even live here?

I shake my head.

The maids would have bring him up at least once if he lives here.

...

I stand outside the dining room for nearly a minute before forcing myself to step inside.

The aroma of richly prepared dinner fills the air, but it does nothing to settle the nausea twisting inside me.

The dining room is enormous. A table long enough to seat twenty stretches beneath a crystal chandelier, though only three places are set tonight.

Robert looks up the moment he sees me.

"There you are." His face brightens. "I was beginning to think you'd skip dinner."

"I wasn't hungry," I reply.

"You still need to eat," he press.

I force a smile and walk toward the empty chair beside him. Half way through, I notice who is sitting opposite me.

Arthur.

My steps slow automatically. I stare unblinkingly, heart racing faster than a truck.

He is already halfway through his meal, unbothered by my presence.

His phone is sitting beside his plate, face down.

Was he eating and texting me just now?

In front of his father?

He looks up as I approach, his expression warm enough to fool anyone.

If he hadn't texted me those forbidden texts minutes ago, I would have been fooled too.

"Good evening..." He pauses for the briefest second before smiling politely. "...Mother?"

The way he says it sends a chill down my spine and for some reason, I don't want to sit facing him. But unfortunately, there's no way around it. The table has been set.

"Arthur finally decided to come home," Robert says happily. "It's been weeks since we've shared dinner together."

"I'm glad to be back," Arthur replies. Though his eyes never leave mine. Not even for a second.

I lower my gaze and take my seat beside his father, while unfortunately facing him directly.

A maid immediately fills my plate before I can ask, even though the sight of him, plus this sitting arrangement already drained my appetite.

"I heard you're seeing someone these days." Robert cut into his steak with an easy smile. "When are you bringing her home for dinner?"

Arthur let out a quiet chuckle. "I'm afraid that's not entirely accurate."

My ears perk up for reasons I don't understand, suddenly invested in his love life.

But what he says next drains the color from my face.

My breath catches in my throat, but before I can think of a reply, his hand slides up from my hip to frame the back of my neck, his fingers tangling into my hair. "As for a moment of pleasure..." He leans in until his lips brush the sensitive curve of my jaw, his warm breath sending a fresh wave of shivers up my spine. "If you think what we have is a 'moment,' you've severely underestimated the kind of man I am." I swallow hard, my heart hammering like a trapped bird against my ribs. "Arthur—" "I don't care about the consequences, Claire," he whispers against my skin, his teeth lightly grazing my pulse until I let out a trembling sigh. "Let the whole world burn. The only thing that matters right now is that you are sitting on my lap, and you still haven't told me to let you go." A low moan leaves my lips as he sucks the deep on my collarbone. "As for love..." he murmurs, his hot breath vibrating against the sensitive spot he just sucked. "Love is a weak, fragile word for w

Claire~ When he breaks the kiss, I'm panting. My chest rises and falls in rapid, ragged hitches, my swollen lips tingling from the gentle devouring of his mouth. His hand remains on the side of my neck, his dark gaze locking onto mine with an intensity so heavy it takes my breath away all over again. "Listen to me carefully, Claire," he murmurs, his thumb stroking the sensitive skin beneath my jaw. "Every time you open your mouth to mention him, you are begging to be kissed. Mention him once, I kiss you once. Mention him twice, I kiss you twice." A slow, dangerous glint sharpens his dark eyes as he leans down, his lips brushing the shell of my ear. "And if you refuse to stop... I will punish you so severely you can't even cry." My throat dries up. "I know you don't like pain, Little Liar, but you'll be leaving me with no choice." "Are you going to hit me?" "Hit you?" a laugh escapes him. He rolls a strand of my hair on his finger as he continues. "No, darling, I don'

But before I can breath a sigh of relief, his lips crash on mine in a fierce, demanding kiss that instantly steals whatever air I had left.I struggle against him, and that only aggravates him the more. His grip on my wrists tightens. His lips move against mine as though he wants to devour me. It isn't gentle. It’s dark, possessive, and entirely ruthless, unlike any kiss we shared that night. Is this the punishment he spoke of?A soft, muffled gasp escapes my throat, and he takes full advantage of it, deepening the kiss until all I feel is pain and the presence of his mouth on mine. My lips hurt. I don't like it. I expected it to be like the first time. When he kissed me and my head grew light, my legs grew weak, my heart raced, and my body clung to him. His touch was sweet and intoxicating. He made me feel treasured and cared for. I missed that. I wanted that. Hot tears spill over my eyelashes, slipping into the seam of our joined lips. The instant the first one reaches his

Claire~By road, Sun City is nearly four hours from West City. Luxury boutiques, towering office buildings, and familiar landmarks glide past one after another before slowly giving way to quieter streets. The silence inside the car is suffocating. I can still feel his earlier threat hanging over my head.'You will be punished.' My fingers curl tighter around my handbag resting on my lap. What did he mean?Would he expose us?Would he follow through on everything he'd threatened last night?A thousand terrible poss

Claire~A gasp escapes me before I can stop it. Quickly, I look around, hoping the maids didn't hear him. They're all doing their chores. They probably did but pretend not to. Immediately, I try to salvage the situation and steer their thoughts towards a more harmless innuendo. "I know you don't accept me as your stepmother," I say, forcing a smile that feels painfully stiff, "but that doesn't mean you can casually make jokes that people might misunderstand."Arthur lets out a low chuckle."Misunderstand?" His brow lifts innocently. "I was talking about your feet."My lips part."Those heels look painful." His gaze drifts down my legs before returning to my face. "What were you thinking about?"Heat rushes into my cheeks.A few of the maids lower their heads, pretending not to listen, though I can almost feel their curiosity hanging in the air.Arthur pushes himself away from the doorway and strolls toward me with the lazy confidence of a man who has never once doubted the world bel

Claire~ The hot shower wash away the sweat from another sleepless night, but it couldn't rinse away the heaviness sitting in my chest. Nearly two hours later, I finally step out of my room, dressed in a cream-colored midi lace dress that hugs my waist before flowing softly past my knees. The fabric is expensive. Softer than anything I've ever owned. One of the maids had picked it out for me. Apparently, everything in my wardrobe had been replaced overnight to more fitting outfits for a billionaire's wife. I stand before the full-length mirror for a moment. The woman staring back at me doesn't look like Claire Evans Davenport. She looks matured, refined, and breathtaking. Like a younger version of a woman who belongs beside Robert Westhall. The thought leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Because no amount of expensive clothing can make me forget the troubles on my shoulders. Robert didn't leave my room until this morning. And Arthur had been suspiciously silent. I wonder what t
