“I can’t believe we’re finally done with high school.” Mandy, Amy’s best friend said as they walked out of their school building.
“Yeah. I was beginning to feel trapped.” Amy replied, shivering at the thought of being trapped.
“It was taking forever, but we finally made it… Think of all the hot guys we’ll get to meet in college.”
Amy rolled her eyes at her best friend’s comment.
“Really, Mandy? Is that all you can think about?... I thought you and Jack are still a thing.”
“Do you seriously think what I and Jack have would outlast our years in college?... Geez Amy, you give us too much credit than we deserve.”
“Well, I thought you two were… You know what? Forget it. What college did you apply for?” Amy decided to change the subject so as not to upset her best friend.
“University of Pennsylvania. You?”
“I’m not going this year.”
“What?! You were so anxious to finish high school and get into college.” Mandy exclaimed in shock.
“I changed my mind.” Amy plainly replied.
“There’s no way you can change your mind just like that. C’mon Amy, you were really excited about college. Spit it out, what’s holding you back?”
Amy knew she wouldn’t get out of this one easily because Mandy would force the truth out of her, one way or another.
“Okay, I’ll tell you. My dad and I aren’t yet on the same page on the course I’ll be studying… He wants me to take over the family business, but I want something less stressful.” she explained, letting out a heavy sigh when she was done.
“I may not really get how you feel, but I totally understand what you mean. My dad was the same way with my elder brother, Chase who wanted to study arts. He ended up getting a masters in business admin and now he barely sleeps a wink.”
“That’s bad.”
“Tell me about it… I’m just glad dad isn’t on my case since he already has Kyle and Chase to worry about.”
“Is Kyle married?” Amy blurted out without thinking, as she used to have a tiny crush on Mandy’s eldest brother.
“No, he isn’t. He’s too busy making more money for dad. I don’t think, wait a minute… You still have a crush on him?” Mandy couldn’t hide the excitement in her voice.
“Hell no! It was only a harmless question.” Amy retorted when she realized what she had asked. She mentally face palmed while scolding herself for asking such question.
“Oh my God!” Mandy suddenly exclaimed, stopping in her tracks.
Here we go. I’m not going to hear the end of this. Amy thought to herself with an eye roll.
“Now I get it. Why didn’t I think of that earlier?”
What is she talking about? Amy wondered.
“It’s him. He’s the reason you’re finding it difficult to go to college cos he won’t be there.”
“I already told you, Mandy. I don’t have a crush on Kyle, not anymore. I’ve gotten over him in like forever.” Amy tried to defend herself.
“No, not Kyle. I mean your present crush.” Mandy emphasized.
“Shut up, Mandy. I told you never to bring that up.” Amy whisper yelled, dragging Mandy to the school parking lot.
“But, I didn’t mention a name… You’re worried you won’t be seeing him anymore. Please tell me I’m right?”
“Yeah. A little.”
“Oh no! Amy, with that much blush on your cheeks, I’m a 100% right.”
“Whatever.” Amy dismissed the conversation as she tried to hide the blush on her cheeks with her hands.
If only Mandy knew that he wasn’t just her crush but her only and true love.
Just then, Mandy’s phone beeped.
“It’s Jack. He wants us to meet.” Mandy said to her best friend after reading the text she received.
“That means no ice cream.” Amy said with a pout.
“I’m sorry, babe. I’ll make it up to you.”
“Whatever. I’ll just have ice cream without you. Say hello to Jack.”
“I will.”
Both friends said their goodbyes and climbed into their Porsche their parents got for them on their eighteenth birthday, heading their separate ways.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into a month.Amy was getting ready to go back to college, for her final year. She had spent the last two weeks of her summer break at her mom’s place, so she could be with her baby brother whom she had missed so terribly. She enjoyed her time with him, as he helped her forget about her problems throughout her stay there. But, now she was back to reality and she hated it.Amy’s phone started to ring on the bed where she had placed it, while she stood before her mirror, wrapping her hair in a ponytail. A smile crept up her face as soon as she saw the caller ID.“Hey, Mandy” she greeted her best friend, who was already done with college.“Happy birthday!” Mandy cheered from the other end.Although it was her birthday, Amy wasn’t one bit excited by it. This was by far the worst birthday of her life, and she’d never forget it.“I’d rather not be reminded of that.” she confessed with a frown, sitting on her bed, and picking up her phone which was pr
A knock on Henry’s study door tore his attention away from his laptop. Ever since Amy’s suicide incident, Henry has been working from home. He couldn’t risk anything happening to his daughter again.“Come in.” he said with a stern voice. In came one of the newly employed bodyguards.“Sorry to disturb you, sir, but I’m here to give you a report.” The blonde buff bodyguard said.“And what is that?” Henry asked.“There’s a man outside who insists on seeing you.”Henry didn’t need to ask who it was. He slammed his laptop shut and took long strides out of his study.Amy was staring out her bedroom window, like she was expecting someone. She has been doing that for the past two weeks, hoping to see the man she loves drive through that gate. As if her prayers were heard, she noticed Bryan’s black Lamborghini driving into the compound. She began smiling to herself, as tears of joy blurred her vision. She wiped her eyes and ran out of the bedroom.“What the hell are you doing here?! I thought
“Where did I go wrong as your father? What did I ever do to deserve such betrayal?!”“This isn’t about you, dad. This is entirely about me. I love Bryan!”“I don’t want to hear you utter those words again!”Henry and his daughter, Amy were having a shouting match in their living room, after returning from Bryan’s place.“I can’t help it, dad. Bryan is the only man I want to be with!”Henry raised his hand to strike his daughter in a fit of anger, but stopped himself midway. It took ever fiber in him to stop himself from actually hitting his daughter.Amy, who flinched away in fear thinking that her dad was going to hit her regained her composure when she realized that he couldn’t do it.“Why don’t you do it, huh? You didn’t think twice before hitting your best friend.”“Amy!”Henry loves his daughter so much and would never do anything to hurt her, but at the moment she was pushing him too far and he didn’t like it one bit, because knowing the kind of person he was, he could do someth
“How could you?!” Sean roared, interrupting Bryan and Henry’s discussion. He was jogging down the stairs with Amy following closely behind. The best friends stared at their children with clear confusion written all over their face. Why is Sean so angry and why is Amy chasing after him?“How could you do this to me, your own son?!” Sean yelled in anger, pointing at his father.“What are you talking about?” Bryan asked in confusion, standing up from his seat.“Sean, I beg you, please don’t say anything.” Amy pleaded once again.“Amy, what is this about?” It was now Henry’s turn to ask his daughter what was going on, because the sudden change of emotions in the atmosphere was deeply alarming.“You are supposed to be my father. You are supposed to have my back, to support me. But what do you do? You betray me and everyone around you!”“Okay, okay. Sean, will you please calm down and tell me where all of this is coming from?”Henry placed his hand on Sean’s chest to stop him from taking an
Henry and his daughter were spending the weekend at Bryan’s house. Amy didn’t want to go at first because she didn’t want to encounter Bryan yet again, but her dad was able to convince her.Henry didn’t like the fact that Amy was always locked up in her bedroom. He wanted her to be herself again, that was why he suggested they go spend the weekend at Bryan’s place. Maybe Sean will be able to help Amy return to her bubbly self once again. He only hopes it turns out that way.Amy and Sean were currently in his bedroom, after having lunch with both their fathers. Amy was resting her weight against Sean, who was sitting behind her, with his back against the headboard. She was trying to stop herself from laughing at the funny video they just finished watching on Sean’s phone. While Amy was concentrating on the phone in her hand, Sean was lost in his own world. He was ecstatic to have Amy at his house, in his bedroom, on his bed, not to mention in an intimate position. He didn’t think she’d
Amy opened her bedroom door and was surprised to see Kyle. She wasted no second in engulfing him in a hug. Kyle sighed in relief and returned the hug. He was scared Amy wouldn’t want to see him, that was why he didn’t have the courage to face her when she was in the hospital.“I missed you too.” he said into the hug,not planning on letting go anytime soon.Amy didn’t think she’d see Kyle again after he left the state, because he was deeply hurt when he left. She was excited when her mom told her that Kyle was in town, but deep down she was scared that he wouldn’t want to be anywhere near her.“I thought you were still mad at me.” Amy mumbled against his chest, enjoying his familiar scent.“I was never angry at you, Amy… I was rather angry at myself for not saying anything sooner.” he honestly replied.“I’m sorry for hurting your feelings. It was never my-““Hey, look at me. You did nothing wrong, okay?”Amy nodded while biting her lower lip. They both needed this closure after the pai
