Damsel in Distress

I instantly turned my head to where that manly voice came from. I'm surprised to see that he was the guy from the café and Yvonne said his name is Marco. I didn't know what he's doing but I'm thankful that he came to help me.

“I said let her go!” he repeated and the firmness in his voice didn’t go unnoticed.

When Clyde let go of my arm, I caressed it and noticed that it's kind of reddish. I could feel the pain and surely it will get bruises.

“Hey, Team Captain! What are you trying to do?" he frowned. "Playing hero saving a damsel in distress,” he taunted Marco like he's not bothered by his presence.

“What if I am?" Marco countered. "Didn’t you know that forcing a woman is not a manly move?” he tilted his head and smirked at him.

“Why are you interfering with other people’s business?" he gritted his teeth. "There are lots of women wanting your attention yet you’re wasting your time here,” he twisted his lip like he was mocking him on meddling with us.

Marco looked my way and I felt like my nerves shivered with the way his eyes stared at me. He could really catch women's attention because of his strong aura and telling that his handsome is undeniable. Now I understand why a lot of girls go gaga over him.

“Seems you’re interested in her, why not after I’m done with her, I’ll pass her to you?" he tittered.  "Sharing is caring, what do you say?” that was rude and I'm really shocked at what he said.

I never anticipated hearing such and I wanted to slap him for his audacity but I didn't have the energy to do so. What am I here? A toy that anytime can be played by anyone? Control freak!

“What can I say?" Marco chuckled weakly. "This is what I say,” he was saying when his fist landed on Clyde’s face.

The two of them were exchanging punches like there’s no end to it. Clyde’s two friends tried to stop them but they couldn’t. The heated situation got everyone’s attention and in a few, I saw the dean running fast towards us.

“Stop fighting!! You two in my office, now!” the dean shouted like a mad man. Of course, who would not if you saw a kind of battle like gangsters over a street fight.

Clyde’s face was full of bruises because of the punches thrown at him. Marco is a bit taller and broader than Clyde so he will definitely score the fight.

When I glanced at Marco, I saw a cut on his lower lip and he wiped the blood coming from it. It was a little swollen but still, it doesn't lessen his charm and good looks. "Jeez! really Faith? you're able to think about that?" my mind taunted me and I felt like I'm a fool.

When I looked around the people watching us, I noticed all the bitches were looking at me raising their brows like I did something awful to them. It looked like I’m to blame that I provoked the two to fight over me and I was the reason for the commotion.

Well, I guess I was but I have no intention for a brawl to occur in that instant which I couldn’t believe also that something like that happened because of me.

Suddenly, one of the professors who accompanied the dean shoo everyone to go to their respective classes and so I did.

After my last class, I ran directly to the café to start my shift. When I reached the shop, I saw Yvonne looking at me like she’s got a lot of questions. I know that the gossips already reached her, but I motioned to let me change to my working clothes first.

When I told her everything that had happened, she's pissed with Clyde like she’s going to burn him alive. Although, the first time she saw him in our class, she knew that he's trouble and also, she's annoyed by his arrogance.

When she noticed my arm got bruised because of the strong grip of Clyde, she opened the cabinet for the first aid kit and applied some ointment that may help to lessen and heal the bruises. I got a little sensitive skin so I could acquire bruises even for a simple attack.

“Where can I get a man like Marco,” she sighed. She was like dreaming looking at the ceiling with his face full of giggles.

“I want a man like him who can defend me from anyone," she wished eyes closed. "Someone who fights to whoever will offend me,” she added like an idiot. "He was like a hero in the movies," she leaned on the wall and crossed her arms over her chest.

“What he did really added to my suspicion. He’s into you my friend,” she looked at me like I got lucky to be defended by him.

I didn’t know what to say or how to react because I really don’t have an idea why it happened. I don’t usually pay attention to the people around the campus, because I’m busy focusing on my studies to retain my scholarship. I really don’t know a lot of people aside from my professors.

It was past nine and I noticed that he did not come to the café. Usually, before 8 he’s got in to have his cup of caffe latte, but I guess it was because of the trouble. I should look for him tomorrow to thank him for helping me get off of that jerk.

"You're waiting for someone to come?" Yvonne teased me when she saw me looking at his usual table. I rolled my eyes at her and turned my back to bus the other tables. ***

The next morning when I was walking to my next class, all eyes were on me like I have a scandal that spread over the internet. I felt self-conscious about the way they’re looking at me.

When I got inside the room, our professor isn’t around yet so I decided to read all my notes from our previous lessons. I got nervous when someone strongly tapped my armchair which able to produce a loud sound that could be heard by anyone inside.

When I turned my head, I saw that it's Georgia and her minions. They are the mean girls or group of plastics or whatever you call it who likes to get the attention of everyone. They are from rich families and also members of the varsity cheering squad. I knew it because I heard them talking loud about their activities whenever they are in the room, but I really don’t pay attention to them.

“Hey, bitch! What does it feel that two popular people are fighting because of a nobody like you?” her tone was full of bitterness.

I was taken aback by her aggressiveness that I wasn’t able to respond to her.  I looked around and everyone’s focus was on us. I hate it when I know to myself that I’m not doing anything wrong but I’m getting unwanted attention.

“Hey, what’s happening here?” that was Yvonne who just got in the room because she ran for a book in the library.

“Oh, there you are Yvonne!" Georgia crossed her arms. "I just want to warn your friend to stay away from Marco or else she’s doomed!" she exclaimed in full irritations. "I just want to slap it in her face that he got suspended for a week because of her," she disclosed. "That isn’t all, when he gets back, he will be punished for community service," I was stunned for a moment. "And this pathetic kind of your friend who looks like innocent in front of everyone plays as the victim between Marco and Clyde’s feud,” she emphasized the words to me like a drip of acid.

“Am I getting it right?" Yvonne cut off. "The Queen bee feels threatened by an ordinary student over two infamous hot and good-looking guys on the campus?" she scoffed. "I thought you’re the best and indestructible,” Yvonne taunted her with a face full of sarcasm. Of course, Yvonne could fight anyone because she belongs to the elite but never brags about it and that's what I love about her.

“Oh, you’ve got a sharp tongue, Yvonne," Georgia retaliated. "I don’t know what you saw in her to chose her to be your friend. I mean, don't you have standards?” Georgia mocked her for being friends with me.

"I have standards, Georgia! I chose trustworthy and respectable people to be my friends," Yvonne retorted. "Do you know why you're not my friend?" she raised her brows. "Because you are out of my standards," Yvonne said like a thud and Georgia was kind of not expecting that.

I told them to stop because I saw our Professor entered the room. Everyone got back to their spaces and started to focus at the front. I couldn't believe I got involved in a near-fight again. I never expected things to happen and I don’t really want to face hostility and quarrels because I only wanted to focus on my studies.

And what shocked me the most was the fact that Marco got suspended and will be punished because of me. I felt guilty with the thought that I was the reason for it all. I wanted to apologize to Marco but the queen bee threatened me to stay away from him.
