Chapter 26

“I’ll be down quickly.” I state, getting out of the car.

“Ms. Carter, I’m not letting you go up there alone especially at this time.” Adair says getting out of the car as well.

I know there’s no point in arguing with him because he’s going to come anyways.

We make our way up to my penthouse in silence and as soon as we get out of the elevator we spot the bodyguard who replaced Cole laying unconscious on the floor and my penthouse door wide open. 

Adair and I both freeze in our spots. My eyes lock on the lifeless figure on the floor, my heart leaping into my throat and my once warm hands, thanks to the heat in Adair's car, now cold and clammy. 

Please don't be dead

Adair's head snaps back and forth, his eyes scrutinizing every inch of the silent hallway. Drawing out a black gun from the inside of his blazer, he brings it close to his chest ready to strike if needed.&nbs
