The moment I see Anna slip down that hallway, I know what I must do. I pull a guard aside and whisper fast, “Go. Find the Crown Prince. Tell him to check Kian’s chamber right away. Hurry.”

The guard looks at me for a second, then nods and rushes off.

I turn to Lina. “Gregory won’t ask questions. He’ll go straight there. And when he does… the truth will show itself.”

Lina frowns. “But, my Princess, what if we’re wrong?”

I shake my head. “We’re not. And even if we are, better he sees with his own eyes.”

Not long after, Gregory appears. His steps are sharp, his cloak brushing the floor as he walks. His face is hard, unreadable. My heart pounds. I know I’ve set something in motion that can’t be stopped.

“Stay close,” I whisper, pulling Lina with me behind a stone pillar. From here, we can see everything without being seen.

Gregory doesn’t slow down. He heads straight for Kian’s door like a man who already knows what waits for him.

“My Princess…” Lina whispers, clutching her hands together

The king summons us early, before court. His chamber is quiet, the morning light falling through the high windows. I sit beside Gregory, but we do not touch, do not even look at each other.Father clears his throat, his gaze heavy on both of us.“Christie, you begin your charity work today. Gregory, I expect you to stand by her side. This is the second time I ask.”I glance at Gregory quickly, then lower my eyes. My heart waits for his answer.Gregory leans forward, his tone calm, respectful. “Father, I honor your wish. But there are pressing matters in council—trade tariffs and border security. I cannot abandon them now. Christie will do well enough without me.”I stiffen at his words. Do well enough? Alone?Father studies him for a long moment. “Your people need to see unity in their royal house. The scandals of late have shaken confidence.”Gregory bows his head slightly. “And that is why the council must come first. Let Christie represent us in charity while I strengthen the kingd

I sit by the window while Lina folds the last bundle of blankets into the basket. Tomorrow is my first outing since… everything. The palace has agreed that I should visit the homes of widows and orphans, to give what we’ve gathered. It feels right—something useful and something away from court whispers.“Do you think the people will welcome me?” I ask, adjusting the scarf on my shoulders.“They will, my princess,” Lina says quickly. But her eyes shift, and I catch it.“What is it?”She hesitates, then lowers her voice. “It’s only… some of the servants talk. They say Lady Anna strayed because the prince never gave her his heart. That his heart…” she stops, watching me carefully, “...was here with you.”I pause, letting her words hang in the air. I knew something like this would come.“They say it is your fault Anna went to Prince Kian. That you stole the affection she deserved.” Lina’s voice is soft, almost guilty.I smooth my dress and look at her. “Let them talk. People will always s

I can’t take it anymore. Pacing in my chamber only makes the walls close in tighter, and every tick of the clock drums against my chest. I know I shouldn’t. We agreed to keep our distance, to stay away from anything that could spark whispers. But tonight… I can’t. He must be hurting, and I can’t bear the thought of him facing this storm alone. Before I can talk myself out of it, I’m already walking down the quiet corridor, my steps quick and unsteady. My heart races as I push open the door to Gregory’s chamber. He is there—sitting by the window, one arm resting on the table, his crown tossed aside like it weighs too much to bear. His eyes lift to mine. For a moment, he doesn’t speak, and I don’t move. The air between us is heavy, almost choking.“Greg,” I whisper, my voice trembling. He doesn’t tell me to leave, not immediately, and that silence gives me hope. I take a small step toward him, then another. I want to hold him, to take away even a fraction of the pain I know he feels. My

The king’s summon comes before the sun is fully awake. My heart beats heavy as I walk the long hall to his chamber. I know what it must be about. When I step inside, Gregory is already there, sitting stiffly on one of the carved chairs. He doesn’t look at me at first, but when I sit across from him, our eyes meet. And suddenly, silence speaks louder than words. His gaze holds me. I can read it like I’ve always done: I can’t speak here, the king will hear us. Thank you for what you did. I’m free now. Free to choose you. Free to be myself. My chest warms, but at the same time I shiver. There’s fire behind his calm eyes too—fire for revenge. Before I can dwell longer, the door opens and Father steps out. The weight of the crown hangs on his tired shoulders, and his face is grave. I bow deeply.“Good morning, Father.”He sits in his lounge chair, his silence heavier than the stone walls around us. He has heard. He knows.Gregory doesn’t wait to be asked. His voice is strong, steady, carry

  • Forbidden To Love: A Royal Sin    Shut Out

Back in my chamber, I sink onto the edge of my bed, my body heavy, my mind reeling. Lina shuts the door behind us, her face still twisted in anger.“What a dance of shame,” she mutters, pacing the room. “The audacity. The disgust. My Princess, I have never seen such shamelessness in my life.”I lean back, pressing my palms against my knees. The images won’t leave me; Anna’s lips pressed to Kian’s, their bodies tangled on the bed. “She could have had everything,” I whisper, my voice breaking with disbelief. “Why would Anna descend so low? Why destroy herself days before her wedding? Why with Kian of all people, Gregory’s own half-brother?”The words burn on my tongue. My chest tightens. For years Gregory tolerated an engagement he never wanted, but he endured it. Out of duty. Out of loyalty to the crown. And now this? Betrayal in its rawest form.Lina stops pacing and folds her arms, her eyes sharp. “My Princess… I believe it’s been going on for a long time.”I look up at her, startled
