There’s tension hanging in the palace air like a heavy curtain. No one says it out loud, but we’re all waiting, waiting for the DNA test result that could change everything. The whispers have started, too. Servants pause their conversations when I walk past. Guards exchange looks. Even the nobles pretend not to stare too hard when Kian walks by.

He moves around like he already belongs here. He's confident. Unbothered. As if he’s certain he’s one of us.

He and his mother are being kept in the royal guest house, pending the release of the test result. It’s supposed to be neutral ground, but everyone knows it’s a soft welcome.

Lina and I are walking back from the palace spa, my skin still warm from the steam, when we run into him.

Kian.

He’s standing at the top of the garden steps, arms folded, a lazy smile tugging at his lips.

“You glow, Princess,” he says, eyes sweeping across me with ease. “If this is what the royal spa does, then I need to book a session.”

I smile politely. “Thank yo

It’s the first time I step into another kingdom as Princess of Halrion, and Edomie greets me with a brilliance I hadn’t imagined. Marble pillars gleam in the sunlight, tall banners of gold and emerald sway in the breeze, and everywhere I turn, eyes follow me. But unlike at home, the stares are warm, curious, even admiring. The queen herself sweeps forward, her jewels catching the light. She takes both my hands gently.“Welcome, dear Christie,” she says, smiling as though she’s known me all her life. “Edomie is your second home.”My throat tightens at her kindness. “Your Majesty, you honor me far more than I deserve.”“Nonsense,” she chuckles, squeezing my hand. “We’ve heard of your grace and loyalty. It is a joy to finally see you.”The royal house dotes on me, attendants bowing deeply as they pass, courtiers whispering behind jeweled fans. For once, I don’t feel the sting of judgment in the whispers. I let myself savor it.And then there is Ron.Always bold, often arrogant, but today

This evening, as we sit around the long table for dinner, I decide to say it. Ron has been calling more often since the Queen’s burial, slipping into my hours with his warmth and his eager words. Today he invited me to Edomie, his kingdom, for one of their grand celebrations. Truth is, I’m not overly interested but it has been too long since I stepped outside these palace walls, too long since I saw more than Aerithia’s streets and shadows. A distraction feels safe enough.“I’ll be going to Edomie,” I announce, breaking the rhythm of silver on porcelain. “Prince Ron has invited me to an event in his kingdom, and I think I’ll accept.”The King lifts his head at once. His face, usually carved with fatigue, softens into something almost like delight. “That is good news, Christie. A change of air will do you well. You have my blessing.”Anna claps her hands lightly, all bright and sugary excitement. “Oh, how wonderful! You’ll look divine, Christie. Everyone will talk about how radiant you

The morning sun pours gently into the solarium, gilding the walls and filling the air with a soft warmth. This place has become mine now—my sanctuary, my office, my way of staying tethered to Mother’s memory. Today, though, I have chosen to share it.When Anna steps through the arched doorway, I rise from my chair with a welcoming smile. She looks surprised, almost cautious, as though unsure why I have asked her here.“Princess Anna,” I say softly, gesturing to the seat opposite me. “Thank you for coming.”She settles into the chair, her hands folded neatly in her lap, her expression polite but guarded.I take a breath. “I wanted you to see this place. It was Mother’s haven, and now it’s mine. I thought it right that you, too, should feel welcome here. After all…” My voice wavers just slightly, but I steady it. “You will soon be part of this family in a more permanent way.”Her eyes soften, and the tension in her posture eases.I continue, more firmly now. “I want you to know that you

The palace is waking up again. Court sessions resume, the King presiding as always, his presence steady, though the grief still lingers in his eyes. The halls hum with life; servants moving quietly, courtiers exchanging polite words but it feels softer somehow, tempered by memory and loss.I retreat to the solarium, the one place that has become mine. Morning light spills across the tiles, painting the room with gold. I open one of Mother’s journals and pause at a page marked in her neat hand. It holds careful notes for the next charity gala—the one she never had the chance to host. Names of benefactors, themes for the evening, and causes she hoped to support are all laid out in her elegant script. My chest tightens as I trace the ink with my fingertip. This was more than an event to her; it was her way of binding Aerithia together, of giving hope to the forgotten. A small smile tugs at my lips. If I can bring this plan to life, if I can see it through for her, then a part of her rema

  • Forbidden To Love: A Royal Sin    Stepping Into Mother’s Shoes

I step into the solarium in the early morning, sunlight spilling across the floor in golden shafts. It’s the one place I never expected Gregory to ask me to be. “Meet me here tomorrow. It’s very important,” he had said. Important—what could he possibly want here? The room takes my breath away. Mother’s flowers are blooming as if she still tended them herself. The weaving panel sits in the corner, threads dangling in soft colors, a memory frozen in time. I can’t help smiling through the ache in my chest, remembering the times we sat here together; Gregory, Mother and I. Mother’s patient hands guiding ours. Gregory’s hands, always clumsy, mine careful and precise.I’m staring at the panel, lost in reminiscence, when I feel him. His presence. Warmth. Close, without a sound. I don’t need to turn, his hand brushes gently against mine, a soft pressure on my shoulder. I feel the tremor in my chest as he silently watches me, waiting. My tear slips, and he instinctively brushes it away.“I was

The burial has rounded up successfully, and all dignitaries have returned to their kingdoms. Father has summoned us for a family meeting in his private chamber. The air is still heavy with grief, but there is a tense undercurrent, the kind that comes when unfinished matters demand attention.Gregory and I take our places on either side of the table. The room feels smaller than usual, as if Mother’s absence has shrunk it. I can still imagine her presence here, softening Father’s sternness.Father enters, his steps slow but deliberate. He doesn’t sit immediately. His hands rest on the table, and his gaze sweeps over us.“My children,” he begins, his voice firm but edged with sorrow, “the queen has been laid to rest with every honor Aerithia could give. Her memory will remain at the heart of this kingdom.”I take a deep breath. “I have tidied her chambers, Father. Everything she loved is in order… the doors are locked now.” I said with a shaky voice.Father closes his eyes briefly, then
