Chapter 12

AMELIA

I fell unconscious again on the way to whatever room I was supposed to stay in. I didn’t know what happened after that.

Now, I was lying awake on a bed that was big enough to accommodate four people at once. The cotton sheets under me were wet with sweat. I had a fever and the maid who had helped me inside stayed by my side nursing me.

No one asked her to do that. No one had ever done this for me before. So, I didn’t know why she was doing this.

“ You should eat something, Lady Amelia. ” Her sweet motherly voice fell on my ears.

I sighed and sat up in the bed. My healing process had kicked in. My feet healed and the swelling was gone but the fever was still not down.

“ Why are you looking after me? ” I couldn’t help but ask even if it made me sound like an ungrateful brat.

The woman turned to me and threw me a sweet smile. “ when someone does something nice for you, you should just let them, Lady Amelia. Don’t think too much about it. ”
