Guy: Hello I'm Thabo, Kate's boyfriend. You are? I'm sorry it is just that I haven't seen you around.

Skylar: Skylar or Sky for short. (I said disappointedly. Boyfriend? I did not know that Kate had a boyfriend, why didn't she tell me before. Of course, we just met but, how did I miss this? my mood went down). Kate is not around now she went for a shower.

Thabo: Ok no sweat, these are for her. (He hands over a rose bouquet and a small gift. How could I ever compete with that? I think I should back out, I got demoralized). So you are her cousin, friend?

Skylar: Neither. I am her new roommate. I just arrived today.

Thabo: OK welcome to BIUST. (We shook hands). When Kate returns tell her to give me a phone call.

Skylar: Ok will do.

Thabo: Bye have a goodnight.

Skylar: Ok same bye. (I immediately shut the door) Argh, why? I hate Thabo... (I murmured).

15 minutes later the door opens, it is Kate she was wearing her towel and was still wet.

Kate: Hey.

No response, I was lost in my thought wondering what I am going to do with the Thabo situation.

Kate: (She pats me on the shoulder). Wassup why do you look turned off?

Skylar: Nothing. ( And I fake smiled).

Kate: You are lying I can see it in your eyes. (She held my hands and sat me down on the bed, her beside me and she put my head on her shoulder). What is wrong baby girl? (She asked with concern in her voice).

Skylar: It is really nothing, I just miss home that is all. (I lied, I had no choice truth is I love you, but I can't tell you because you have a boyfriend, even if you did not, I don't think I was going to stand a chance. I am afraid of rejection and losing you).

Kate: (consoling me) Leaving home can be tough, I remember when I...(She told me her moving out story and that every bird has to leave the nest). Ooh, flowers? 

Skylar: Oh yeah, these are not mine, they are yours.  Your boyfriend told me to give these to you. (I said as I hand over the roses and gift). He also said that I must inform you to call him.

Kate: (She blushed and smiled when she received the gifts, guess she really loves him). Wow OMG. (She squealed. She took a pic and posted it on her I* story). Isn't he the sweetest?

The way she smiled and rejoiced at the sight of the flowers and gift made me question if I still stood a chance. At this point, I felt what French Montana meant by the lines, hope no one discovers you. Hope no one sees her. I hope no one falls in love with you. I've got my reasons.

Cause if they knew what I know then I know, I wouldn't stand a chance. There's no way you would go for a man like me if you had options. 

Skylar: (I nod my head falsely agreeing. Sweet she says, I scoff in my head. I got pissed off, so I left the room for that shower, guess I am going to have a long shower and a crying session because I am been hurt). Kate I am going to shower bye.

 

Kate: (Seemed too focused on her phone). Bye.

I listen to Dax, Drake, and Billie Eilish in the shower as I stand and have a whole crying session.

Skylar: Yeah I am. (I tried to hide the sadness in my voice).

Girl: I am sorry if I seem nosey. Are you lying to me, just to get rid of me? I completely understand. I am a stranger and such things are not comfortable to share with. It is okay, no pressure. But if you feel like opening up, I am there. I am Lindiwe Sebego by the way, A guidance and counselor in training. What about you?

Skylar: No that's not the issue. I just miss home. (Again I told a fib). I am Skylar, Skylar Dikgang. I am studying Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. (IME).

Lindiwe: Industrial, interesting course. You guys are egornomist. Okay, let me get one thing straight. So when you miss home you sing love, heartbreak and depressing songs? 

Skylar: Yes.

Lindiwe: Studio is the school band. We sing contemporary music.

Lindiwe: Meet me at the Multi-Purpose-Hall (MPH) on Saturday, for an audition. I know that the band would be lucky to have you. Please do not disappoint. Also, I want you to audition with PCH by Jaden and Willow Smith.

Skylar: Ok, I won't disappoint you.

Lindiwe: Bye, don't forget to hit me up. (She winked at me).
