Chapter 3 :What would happen ?

last update 公開日: 2026-08-24 02:17:10

ZANE’S POV.

She was there, right in front of me, and damn it, I had never felt more uncomfortable than I did at that moment. Alessia was sleeping peacefully in the passenger seat, her hair falling over part of her face and her lips slightly parted. I looked away almost immediately, annoyed with myself for noticing things I had no business noticing.

Adrian should have known better than to ask me to take Alessia and Kendra back to their dorm. Speaking of Kendra, her soft snoring was the only sound filling the car. She was sprawled across the back seat, completely knocked out, leaving me alone with the one person I had spent most of the night trying not to look at.

I honestly wasn’t made for this.

If Kendra wasn’t in the car, I probably would’ve found an excuse to leave them with someone else a long time ago. But Adrian had trusted me with his sister, and I wasn’t about to give him a reason to regret it.

Alessia stirred a few minutes later, blinking slowly as she looked around. Confusion crossed her face, and for a second she looked as though she wasn’t sure whether she was awake or still dreaming.

“Zane?” she murmured.

I glanced at her. “Hm?”

She yawned and stretched before settling back into the seat. “I just wanted to make sure it was really you driving me home. I could’ve sworn you’d never do something like this.” She glanced briefly at Kendra before looking straight ahead again.

I smirked. The girl knew me better than she probably realized, and for some reason, I was proud of that.

“Surprised, huh?” I asked, keeping my eyes on the road. “Why did you drink so much, Lessy?”

Of course, I already knew the reason. She wouldn’t say it out loud, especially not with Adrian around, but I could read her well enough. She wanted people to notice her. She wanted guys to approach her. If she only knew how many fuckers had their eyes on her, she wouldn’t have needed to try so hard.

She raised an eyebrow at me. Adrian’s sister was sassy and stubborn, and that was one of the few sides of her I actually enjoyed bringing out.

“Excuse me?” she asked, sounding more awake now. “You get to drink, flirt and do whatever you want with girls, and I don’t?”

Of course she had to bring up one of my flings.

I glanced at her briefly before looking back at the road. “So someone has been paying a little more attention to me. Curious about my lifestyle, huh?”

I couldn’t resist messing with her.

She stared at me, her eyes narrowing slightly. And immediately I thought of the worst things I could make those eyes do. “Of course, Zane. You’re the captain of the hockey team. I have to know every little detail about what you do. Unfortunately, most of it is the cringiest stuff imaginable. Trust me, it’s no fun digging into who you’re seeing every night.”

That caught me off guard.

A laugh slipped out before I could stop it.

“You want to be part of that crowd, huh, Lessy?” I teased, expecting her to get embarrassed.

Instead, her eyes widened.

“No, no, no, Zane. If you’ve thought about it, cancel it. Cancel me,” she said quickly, shaking her head.

This time, I couldn’t hold back my laugh.

She immediately looked offended. “What’s so funny?”

“Nothing.”

“You’re laughing at me.”

“Maybe.”

She folded her arms and sank farther into her seat, clearly deciding she was done with me.

I shook my head, still smiling.

For the first time that night, the car didn’t feel so uncomfortable.

And that was probably the problem.

I saw her biting her lips. She was definitely about to say something, but she seemed to be searching for the right words.

“Say it Lessy” I urged her. She looked at me then shook her head.

“I was wondering why you accepted my brother’s offer and not somewhere you’d rather be in”. She asked.

I sighed. Of course she wasn’t one to drop conversations that easily. “I have other things I do Lessy. Why do you think all I do is girls.” I asked , trying to shut her up.

She gave me a brow and I chucked. “Is that really a question? Zane aside from hockey and your major, what else do you do?” She asked

I narrowed my eyes at her.

“Read Alessia. And many other things. If you're that curious I can add you to my schedule.” I said mostly to get a reaction. And finally she laughed.

This girl was surely going to kill me. Her laugh sounded like heaven on earth. Jeeze. I tightened my grip on the steering me and looked back at the road.

“Oh please. No. And I’ve heard from thousands of girls around here that you have a type. Is that true ?” She asked.

Fuck.

She probably had heard from Adrain that she wasn’t my type. If Kendra was not in the car right now I probably would have dropped Alessia in the middle of nowhere and asked Mase to come get her. I was in no mood to deal with her questions.

You see, this was the very exact reason I strictly avoided Alessia. She was too curious for my own peace of mind.

I didn’t give her a reply. She could listen to whatever those girls had to say for all I cared. Alessia Benett was mine. She just didn’t know it yet.

She shifted in her seat. I could feel another question coming up. “I’m not your type ? Does that have something to do with me being Adrain’s little sister.”

Damnit. Fuck it.

I stared at her. She was looking at me too. And now I had to give her a response. Fuck me again. This was a very bad decision.

She cleared her throat and adjusted herself in her seat. Then she looked straight at me and asked, “What would happen if I wasn’t Adrian’s sister?”

The atmosphere inside the car changed instantly.

I wanted to get her to the dorm as quickly as possible, but I was still twenty minutes away. There was no escaping the question now.

“Answer me, Zane.” Her voice was quieter this time. “What if I don’t want to be just your interviewer or Adrian’s little sister to you anymore?”

What the hell?

I swallowed.

“You’re drunk, Alessia. You need sleep. Stop before this gets messy,” I warned her, keeping my eyes firmly on the road.

She hummed softly, but she didn’t back down.

“I’ll ask you the same question when I’m sane, and there’ll be no escaping from it next time.”

She paused, watching me carefully.

“Because, Zane…” Her voice dropped almost to a whisper. “I think you wish I wasn’t Adrian’s sister.”

My hands tightened around the steering wheel.

Then she delivered the final blow.

“I do too.”

ZANE’s POVIt wasn’t supposed to bother me so much that Alessia was so sure of me. But it did. I still couldn’t wrap my head around the whole thing and our conversation yesterday. If I started, there was no going back, and something about my reputation would destroy things here. Alessia loves and I have fun. Two very different things. That’s why I was always of the opinion that she wasn’t my spec, even if she looked as hot and breathtaking as ever. And I couldn’t promise her a relationship or something different. If that was worth what she was expecting, then she needed to think hard again.Do you want me?Those words kept playing in my head like a sound tape. And that was the fucking problem here. Because I did.Damn me.I really wanted Alessia Bennett. And what made me want her more was the fucking part that she was off limits.I sighed loudly. I wasn’t mentally prepared for this. I never would have thought one sentence from her mouth could ruin me like this. I got dressed casually

ALESSIA’s POV. Three days. That was how long Zane had been pretending I didn’t exist. At first, I thought I was imagining it. Maybe he was busy with hockey. Maybe Adrian had dragged him into some team issue. Maybe I was simply overthinking everything because of what happened between us.But by the third day, there was no way I could keep pretending.Zane Jaxon was avoiding me.And he was terrible at it.At breakfast, he talked to Adrian without looking in my direction. At lunch, he somehow always found a reason to sit somewhere else. Whenever our group was together, he was perfectly comfortable joking with Mason and Jace, but the moment I joined the conversation, his attention suddenly became very interested in his phone. It was ridiculous.Especially because I knew what had happened between us.I hadn’t imagined that.Neither had he.I was beginning to get tired of being the only person acknowledging it.“You’ve been staring at your phone for five minutes.”Kendra’s voice pulled me

ZANE’S POV. I should have walked away. That was the first thought that came to me when I finally got back to my apartment, and it was also the thought that kept pissing me off because I knew damn well I hadn’t done it. I should have walked away the moment Alessia looked at me like that, should have reminded myself who she was and who I was supposed to be to her. Instead, I had stood there like an idiot, letting her words sink deeper than they had any right to. I dropped my keys onto the counter and ran a hand through my hair, staring at nothing in particular. Fuck. This was exactly what I had been trying to avoid for months. I had told myself it was nothing. Alessia was Adrian’s little sister. That was it. She was the girl who sat at our table, asked too many questions about hockey and followed us around with her camera whenever the school paper needed something about the team. Nothing more. Except it had never really been nothing. I knew that now. And after tonight, there

ALESSIA’S POV I knew I was making a mistake the moment I saw Zane’s car waiting outside the frat house. I should have been relieved that Adrian had asked him to take me home. Instead, my stomach tightened at the thought of being alone with him again. Especially after everything that happened between us. The drive from last night kept replaying in my head. His voice. The way he looked at me when I asked what would happen if I wasn’t Adrian’s sister. And then tonight, the way his eyes had followed me across the room while I danced with someone else. He had noticed. I knew he had. And judging by the look on his face, he hadn’t enjoyed it. I climbed into the passenger seat and pulled the door shut, refusing to look at him immediately. “You’re quiet,” Zane said. I glanced at him. He was already watching me. “Maybe I have nothing to say.” A small smirk tugged at his mouth. “That’s new.” I rolled my eyes and looked out the window. But tonight, unlike yesterday, I wasn’t drunk

  • Forbidden obsession ; She’ll be the death of me    Chapter 5 : Temptation.

ZANE’S POV I just couldn’t think straight anymore after what Alessia said to me after lunch. I mean, it was something I had actually wanted to hear from her since the first day I set my eyes on her. Defying all rules, I couldn’t help thinking about her and stroking myself every damn night. If only she knew what was coming her way, she wouldn’t be so sure of how much she wanted me. Every time I thought I had finally pushed the conversation from yesterday out of my head, her voice came back to me. What if I don’t want to be just your interviewer or Adrian’s little sister to you again? I still couldn’t decide what bothered me most. The fact that she had said it herself or the fact that I possessively wanted her to. Crap… This was not sitting well with me like I had initially thought it would. I tossed my phone onto the bed and stared at the clothes I’d picked for the party. I was a freaking party animal. Black jeans, a Northbridge hoodie and a jacket. Nothing special. It was just

  • Forbidden obsession ; She’ll be the death of me    Chapter 4 : Desire.

ALESSIA’S POV. I remembered everything. Unfortunately. I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, wishing alcohol came with some kind of mercy button that allowed you to forget the embarrassing things you’d said the night before. Mine apparently didn’t. Every word of that drive kept coming back to me, one after another, until I finally buried my face in my pillow and groaned. Why had I said that to Zane? Of course Zane wanted me. He apparently wanted every girl on campus, and since he hadn’t made the first move, it was definitely because of Adrian. Always because of my overly protective elder brother. Actually, I knew why. I’d been curious about him for months. About why he could laugh with every girl on campus but barely looked at me without that irritated expression. About why he was so different around my brother and his friends. About why the same guy who could spend an entire party flirting with girls suddenly became almost painfully quiet whenever I was around. And
