ALESSIA’S POV

I knew I was making a mistake the moment I saw Zane’s car waiting outside the frat house.

I should have been relieved that Adrian had asked him to take me home. Instead, my stomach tightened at the thought of being alone with him again.

Especially after everything that happened between us.

The drive from last night kept replaying in my head. His voice. The way he looked at me when I asked what would happen if I wasn’t Adrian’s sister. And then tonight, the way his eyes had followed me across the room while I danced with someone else.

He had noticed.

I knew he had.

And judging by the look on his face, he hadn’t enjoyed it.

I climbed into the passenger seat and pulled the door shut, refusing to look at him immediately.

“You’re quiet,” Zane said.

I glanced at him.

He was already watching me.

“Maybe I have nothing to say.”

A small smirk tugged at his mouth. “That’s new.”

I rolled my eyes and looked out the window.

But tonight, unlike yesterday, I wasn’t drunk.

I knew exactly what I was doing.

And for the first time, I wasn’t going to wait for Zane Jaxon to make the first move.

If he wanted to keep pretending there was nothing between us, fine.

I’d just have to give him a reason to stop pretending.

——

The drive back to my dorm was silent. And filled with tension. I knew I was about to do something very stupid but to hell with morals and brothers. I wanted Zane Jaxon and I was going to get him.

Probably the most absurd thing I’d ever thought to myself but ridiculously the one that had never left my mind.

We finally reached my dorm and he exhaled a long sigh and looked at me. “We are here.”he says, tapping on the steering wheel. I could see his brows slightly in a frown. He was tensed and had something to say to me. I did too. I had a lot.

“You left Brittany.?” I finally said, trying to create some more tension. He looked at me,dark eyes holding something darker.

“And you with frat boy”. he drawled. Sure. Me and Edison. And right now Zane was trying to avoid my eyes.

I smiled. He was jealous. More points for me. “Can you walk me to the door ?” I asked, and he looked at me, muttering a curse under his breath.

“Are you crazy ?” He asked and I held in my laugh.

“No.” I looked at him, challenging him to refuse. He looked resigned and got down from the car. I followed behind him. And when we reached my door, he still tried maintaining some sort of distance as if not trusting himself if he came closer to me.

I reached the door and sighed in resignation . Fuck rules. If I wanted to make myself clear. I have to do it right. I walked back to him and he tensed.

“What are you doing, Lessy.?” His voice came out darker than it was. I swallowed, rethinking my decision.

“Something you should have done.” I said and hated that my voice sounded more desperate. Then I raised my legs up and curled my hands around Zane’s neck and kissed him.

I was kissing Zane Jaxon.

He wasn’t kissing me back and it stung harder than a rejection did. I broke the kiss and stared back at him. A plea in my eyes. He looked at me too.. confusion and something dark in his eyes.

“Don’t deny me again Zane.” I said and before I could even think about what I said I heard Zane groan and grab me by my waist connecting his lips with mine in a reckless kiss.

His tongue twisted mine in desperate hunger and need. Like he had imagined this longer than he wanted to. His hands held my waist firmer and I heard him groan again when he released me.

Gawd. His eyes were filled with desire. Much more than I expected. “You started this Lessy. Don’t regret it.” He whispered darkly.

I blinked at him and licked my lips. “You have no idea how much I want this, Zane. ”. I replied, suddenly hating myself the moment the words slipped out of my mouth. Zane released me and I now felt cold. The warmth I was feeling some seconds ago disappeared.

He looked defeated. And irritated. Like he now resented me for the nonsense I had sputtered. “You don’t mean what you just said, Lessy.” He said. His voice was still hoarse.

I flinched. He probably still saw me as Adrain’s sister. And I didn’t want to be just that to him. He was fighting it.

“Well, I’m not drunk. You are there. I am here. And I kissed you. You kissed me back. We both want each other, right?” I replied with a lot of courage I wished I didn’t have.

He cursed. Did I mention Zane cursed like a sailor. He looked at me. Speechless. Then he let out a sigh. “You really know what you're dealing with right ? Me.” He said and I smiled.

“Zane Jaxon. Northernbridge golden player. Captain. And playboy. Every girl’s hot dream. Especially mine,” I replied, and my stomach did a turnover when he looked at me like he was begging me to take back my words.

“I’m not Adrain’s sister anymore to you Zane, am I?”

ALESSIA’s POV. The salon smelled like expensive shampoo and hot tools. Soft music played somewhere in the background, low enough that it barely registered over the quiet snip of scissors and the occasional hum of a blow dryer.I sat in the chair with a black cape fastened around my neck, staring at my reflection while the stylist ran her fingers through my hair, assessing its length and condition. Behind me, Kendra had claimed the waiting chair like it was her personal throne, her legs crossed and her phone already out, ready to document every second of this.“I’m just saying,” she said, not looking up from her screen, “if you’re going to do something this drastic, you better not chicken out halfway through.”“I’m not chickening out.” I narrowed my eyes at her reflection.“You said that last time you tried bangs.”“Those were a mistake, and we don’t talk about them.” I pointed a warning finger at her.Kendra grinned, finally lifting her eyes. “This is different. This feels… intention

ZANE’s POV. “Jaxon, if you shoot that puck at my head one more time, I’m reporting you to the fucking authorities.”I glanced at Mason, who was standing a few feet away with his stick resting against his shoulder and the most offended expression I’d ever seen on a grown man’s face. His eyebrows were pulled tight, his mouth twisted like I’d just pissed in his protein shake.“Then stop standing where I shoot.” I seethed back at him and he retorted. “I’m your teammate, you dickhead.”“Tragic.” I snorted. Jace snorted from beside the goal, his shoulders shaking as he tried and failed to keep a straight face. Mason shot him a glare so sharp it could’ve cut glass, which only made Jace laugh harder. I smirked and turned back to the puck, tapping it once with my stick before sending it across the ice. It slipped past the goalie and slammed into the back of the net with a clean, satisfying thud.“Beautiful,” I muttered under my breath.“God, I hate you,” Mason called, dragging a gloved hand

ALESSIA’s POV. “An email, girl! From school!” I heard Kendra shout from the sitting room and immediately dried my wet hands on my trousers and rushed to check my laptop. Kendra watched me expectantly, looking like she’d already read the email herself. My eyes widened at the message before me, and my heart gave a sudden leap. “So? What does it say? Are you going or not?” Kendra asked, wiggling her shoulders impatiently. My lips felt numb.Everything came rushing back to me.Zane.Fucking Zane. The breakup. The way my heart still reacted to the mere mention of his name. The way I’d cried almost every night since we’d arrived in California two weeks ago. And, fuck, the way I couldn’t stop rereading our old messages, as if staring at the words long enough would somehow change how everything had ended.I read the email aloud. “Dear Miss Bennett, I hope this email finds you well. As your California showcase assignment approaches its conclusion, we’d like to arrange your return to campus fo

ALESSIA’s POV. I didn’t smile back right away. The cocky little curve of his mouth threw me off more than I wanted to admit.Caleb West stayed seated like he had all the time in the world, one arm resting on the back of the chair, green eyes steady on me. Up close, he looked even more put-together than he had on the ice—still messy dark hair, still that easy posture, but the intensity in his stare was sharper now that it wasn’t focused on a puck.“You looked like you were about to drown in that mug,” he said. “Figured someone should interrupt.”I raised an eyebrow. “And that someone had to be you?”He shrugged, still half-smiling. “Lucky timing.”I glanced past him toward the rink. The noise was still there, distant now. Whistles. Skates. Coaches barking corrections. Life continuing like nothing had cracked open two days ago on a porch three thousand miles away.“You always walk up to random girls staring into cold coffee?” I asked.“Only the ones who spent the morning photographing

  • Forbidden obsession ; She’ll be the death of me    Chapter 73: Number six.

ALESSIA’s POV. The last two days were a blur. I couldn’t stop replaying that early morning on the porch—the way Zane had looked me dead in the eye and ended us. It left an ache that refused to quiet. Kendra only knew the surface of it. I still hadn’t told her everything. I wasn’t ready.I stared at the unfamiliar ceiling for a long minute before pushing myself up. Half-unpacked boxes sat on the marble floor like accusations. I walked past them and headed for the bathroom. The girl in the mirror looked like a stranger. Weak. Exhausted. Angry at herself for trusting so completely. Dark circles sat beneath my eyes. My hair was a ruffled mess, and my lips were cracked from biting them raw the night before while trying not to make a sound.I gripped the edge of the sink until my knuckles went white.Fuck.Nothing was working. My chest felt hollow, and I felt stupid for every single hope I’d allowed myself to have. I splashed cold water over my face, washed my hair, and went back to the be

  • Forbidden obsession ; She’ll be the death of me    Chapter 72: Rearview.

ZANE’s POV. I hit the gas hard. Rain slammed the windshield in thick sheets, blurring the fucking street. My hands locked around the wheel, knuckles white. My jaw was so tight it hurt. I didn’t look back. Not once. If I did—if I saw her still standing there in the middle of the lawn—I knew I’d stop. And I couldn’t fucking stop.I thought this would feel lighter. Like I’d finally put something down. Cut it clean. Be free of it before camp, before the NHL, before everything that actually mattered. It didn’t.The second her house disappeared, the weight in my chest got worse. Heavier. Like I’d just made everything ten times uglier and there was no taking it back.My own voice kept looping. It was nothing serious.A fling. You should’ve listened to them.I said that shit like I meant it. Had to. Make it ugly enough that she wouldn’t come after me. Ugly enough that she wouldn’t hope. Ugly enough that I wouldn’t either. But it was pure fucking bullshit.I knew it the second the words left
