Chapter 2

Author: Many Floaters
"How else?" Dad replied dismissively. "He probably snuck out yesterday and fell somewhere. Leave him alone. Maybe this will finally teach him a lesson and stop him from going around behind my back."

Sebastian looked like he wanted to say more, but Dad shut him down with a single glance. "That's it. Return to your work and stop worrying about unnecessary things."

After Sebastian left, Dad's brows slowly furrowed. He recalled yesterday, shortly after issuing the command for me to return home and kneel as punishment, the control terminal on his wrist had started vibrating.

A warning had flashed across the screen. "Controlled subject currently in critical condition. High-risk life signs detected. System reboot initiating automatically."

At that time, it had startled Dad. When he got home and saw me kneeling obediently on the floor without any visible issues, he assumed the terminal had glitched and didn't think much of it.

Now, after hearing Sebastian's report, irritation surged in him again. "He's such a pain in the ass. Even after the mods, he still sneaks out behind my back!"

That night, Dad stopped outside my room and issued another command. "You're not allowed to sleep tonight. As punishment, stand outside your door and reflect on what you did wrong by sneaking out."

I nodded and walked to the doorway, standing there without moving an inch.

The next morning, Dad woke up and saw me still standing in the same position as the night before. Satisfaction appeared on his face.

"That's more like it. You look much better when you're obedient," he said. "If you dare disobey me again, your punishment will be doubled."

It was a sunny weekend afternoon. Dad had invited several friends over to hang out. The group sat chatting and laughing inside the garden pavilion.

He beckoned me over and issued another instruction. "Keep Ryland company. Protect him and don't let him get hurt at all costs. Understood?"

"Understood," I answered mechanically before walking over to Ryland's side, trailing silently behind him like a shadow.

He ran to the edge of the lake and leaned over the railing, standing on tiptoe to peer into the water. "There's fish in there! I want to catch them!"

I said nothing. I simply followed behind Ryland, my eyes fixed on him as I carried out the standing directive in my mind—protect Ryland.

Suddenly, Ryland's foot slipped. With a sharp scream, he fell into the lake.

The water was deeper than it looked. He flailed wildly, sobbing and screaming as water splashed around him. "Dad, help! Help me!"

My body reacted instantly. Without a second of hesitation, I jumped straight into the lake.

The icy water swallowed me whole, yet I felt nothing. I grabbed Ryland by the arm and yanked him toward the edge with all my strength.

Hearing the cries for help, Dad and his friends rushed over just in time to see me pushing Ryland back onto the shore. Once we were both safely out of the water, his friends immediately praised me.

"Hey, Austin. Your eldest son is really brave. He actually jumped into the water to save his brother. You've raised him well."

"Seriously. He's so young and already this responsible!"

Dad smiled modestly and waved dismissively. "Oh, it's nothing. The kids are just sensible on their own. I didn't really teach them much. Sebastian, take them upstairs for a hot bath before they catch a cold."

By the time dinner approached, Dad's friends had already left.

He walked into my room and slapped me across the face without warning. The sharp crack echoed through the room. The force knocked my head to the side, but I felt no pain at all.

"Who told you to take Ryland near the lake?" Dad barked furiously. "Did you do it on purpose? Were you trying to get him killed? It's a good thing he's fine, or I wouldn't have let you off so easily!"

Still angry, he raised his hand to hit me again. The moment his fingers brushed against my cheek, he abruptly pulled back with a frown. "Why is your face so cold? It's like touching ice. Did you catch a chill?"

I didn't answer. I turned my head back slowly and looked at Dad in silence.

"Useless," he spat out with disgust. "You can't even take care of yourself, let alone protect your brother. You're not allowed to eat dinner tonight. Stay in your room and reflect on your mistakes!"

"Okay, Dad."

  • Forced Into AI Obedience, Killed by Commands   Chapter 10

Mom placed my photograph in front of the gravestone. It was a picture taken shortly after I had first returned home. In the photo, I wore a shy smile, my eyes full of hope for the future.Little did anyone know that hope would eventually turn into a nightmare.Dad crouched before the gravestone and gently caressed the face in the photograph. Tears splattered onto the stone, leaving behind small dark patches."Callum, darling, forgive me for all the sins I've committed. I shouldn't have played favorites, shouldn't have modded you, and shouldn't have treated you so harshly. You deserve none of the suffering you endured…"Could you forgive me, please? There hasn't been a second in my life when I wasn't consumed by regret over my choices…"He kept talking endlessly, apologizing from daylight until nightfall. Even when his throat gave out and no sound could come out anymore, he refused to leave.Mom stood quietly nearby, staring at my picture with overflowing grief and regret.Once D

Dad slowly crouched down again, his voice turning gentle, just like the way he used to speak to Ryland."I brought your favorite candy, Callum. Come out and eat some, okay? I won't punish you anymore, nor will I force you to obey my instructions. You can do whatever you want, and I won't play favorites again."I quietly floated in front of him, watching him speak to empty air as remorse and madness filled his eyes.Several times, I almost thought he could actually see me. In the end, though, he was only mumbling to nothingness, his gaze hollow and unfocused.Later, Mom brought him home. His condition never improved. Every day, he went into my room, sat on my bed, touched my pillow, and called out for me."Callum, time to wake up. I made you breakfast… Callum, stop standing there as punishment. Come over here. I'll massage your legs. You must be tired from standing all night…"Callum, I've already straightened Ryland out for what he did to you. From now on, I'll protect you. No on

"We spoiled you and gave you everything, yet you turned around to harm and frame him?" Mom continued. "Do you know? Callum is dead, and it's because of you and your dad!""C-Cal is dead?"Ryland froze. His crying stopped abruptly, his face full of disbelief. "That's impossible! How could he be dead? He was just fine yester—""He's been dead for at least a week!" Mom screamed, her voice cracking under the weight of her rage and grief."For the sake of protecting you, your dad sent him to undergo illegal mods! He died in a traffic accident because of your dad's command. Even after death, he was controlled by that chip and was treated like a puppet for you two to order around!"Ryland began trembling violently. His face turned deathly pale as he shook his head repeatedly. "I didn't mean it… I only wanted Dad to scold him and love me more… I never wanted him to die. Mom, I'm sorry. Can you forgive me?""Forgive you?"Mom let out a cold laugh, her eyes filled with disappointment and

"When Callum first came back, I resisted him," Dad confessed through tears."I thought he was going to take away everything that belonged to Ryland. And he had a wild personality. He talked back all the time. I was afraid he wouldn't accept Ryland, that he'd ultimately do something to hurt him."So, when I heard about that modification organization that could make children obedient, I… I lost my mind and sent him there.""You shouldn't have, you idiot!"Mom was trembling with anger, her entire body shaking. She raised her hand, wanting to slap him, but the sight of his miserable state—tears and snot running down his face—made her stop."I know you love Ryland, but Callum is our real son! How could you do this to him?"I floated nearby, silently listening to their argument. Not a single emotion rose inside me.I couldn't understand Dad's reasoning for his favoritism, nor could I ever accept it.My thoughts drifted back to the moment I first learned I had been the real missing he

"Since his bones and neural pathways were illegally modified, the implanted chip received external commands and controlled his movements and speech, even after death. That's why he was capable of functioning despite being deceased."The doctor stepped forward with a pair of forceps. Carefully, almost cautiously, he reached behind my neck and removed the control chip embedded there.Almost instantly, my body, which had still appeared mostly intact moments ago, began decomposing at a terrifying speed. My skin turned dark purple and shriveled rapidly.Within seconds, my flesh collapsed inward, and I no longer looked human.Dad was horrified by the scene. His pupils contracted violently as he let out a shrill scream. His legs gave out beneath him, and he collapsed onto the floor."H-How did this happen? Callum, darling, I didn't mean it… Is this a prank? Please make it stop…"At that moment, I felt light. Weightless as I floated upward, I drifted free from the rotting shell beneath m

"That's impossible! No way! How could he be dead?" Dad roared. "Look, he's still talking to me! And he walked over here from the car! Y-Your device thing-y has to be wrong!"The nurse was so petrified that she took half a step back. "But it's true that he has no pulse! And neither does he have body heat. He's as cold as ice!"The attending physician frowned deeply, equally disturbed by what he was seeing."No heartbeat or respiration. And the lividity has spread across the arms and neck. Based on the condition of the body, he's been deceased for at least a week. Of course, the most bizarre thing of all is that he can still walk and talk…"Dad rushed over and grabbed my shoulders tightly, his fingers digging into my arms. "Callum, look at me! You're not dead, right? Tell them! Tell the doctors that you're not dead!"Without a proper reaction, I simply repeated, "Dad, I will give Ryland my blood as instructed.""Doc, check him again! Your equipment has to be glitching or something!
