Alina's POV

"Edrick..." Mary stood up to face him. "I promise you, I just wanted to see if she was okay. I was so worried," she pleaded.

Edrick didn't even look at her.

His eyes went straight to me.

"Edrick..." I stood up and walked toward him.

"I was the one who called her. I needed someone. I was so scared. Clover was in surgery."

"Oh," he said.

And for the first time since he walked in, his eyes stopped shooting daggers. They softened.

He looked at Mary.

"I'm here now. She can leave."

  • Forced to Marry my Sister’s Fiancée    Pure Insanity

ALINA’S POVThe closer I got to the hospital, the sweatier my hands got.I forced myself to focus on the road and think of nothing else, but my heart was beating so hard and so fast it was almost impossible.I made it to the hospital in one piece. Even then, I felt as though a single touch or a single word would shatter me.“Aria Vale,” I said to the receptionist.I could not remember the room she was kept in.She called one of the workers to lead me down the long corridor to the last door on the floor.I halted at the glass window. There she was, lying in bed, eyes closed, dressed in a surgical gown. Her bruises looked fresher than I had expected. She looked like a mess. Like a broken version of me. Like everything I felt inside had somehow taken human form.My hands pressed against the glass as I watched her. Her wrist was still cuffed to the bed. That alone gave me a sense of peace. The door opened, and a doctor I hadn’t noticed was in there stepped out.“Doctor!” I called, making

She can leave."Mary simply nodded.I raised my hand, wanting to reach for her, but she only gave me a small shake of her head."It's okay, Alina. Thank you. Please take care of Clover."I could hear her trying to hold back her tears. Then she turned and walked out.Edrick didn't look at me again. He went straight to Clover's bedside, whispered something in her ear, then placed a kiss on her forehead. When he finally turned to me, I opened my mouth to say something, but he beat me to it."What did the doctors say?"I

  • Forced to Marry my Sister’s Fiancée    Complete

Alina's POVHe left.He actually left.He didn't even look back. He didn't give me the chance to argue, to beg him to stay through our daughter's surgery. He just... left.I swallowed the lump in my throat and turned back toward the operating room. Standing before the narrow glass window, I tried to look inside, but all I could see were blurred movements and bright white lights.Clover was still in there.I pressed my lips together. Whatever had been important enough to pull Edrick away in the middle of our daughter's surgery, I didn't want to think about it. If I did, I'd only get angrier.Focus, Alina. Focus on Clover. She was all that mattered.I lowered myself onto one of the waiting room sofas, clasping my trembling hands together so tightly my knuckles turned white. My foot bounced relentlessly against the tiled floor. Every time the operating room doors swung open, my heart lurched into my throat, only to sink again when another doctor or nurse hurried past without saying a wo

  • Forced to Marry my Sister’s Fiancée    Pure insanity

Edrick's POVWith every step I took away from the hospital, a sharp pain jabbed at my heart.I shouldn't be leaving. The image of Alina's eyes when I told her I had something to do instead of staying with her and Clover at the hospital haunted me. The sadness that filled them refused to leave my mind.I closed my eyes for a brief moment and pushed the thought aside as I walked to my car, started the engine, and drove off.I drove all the way to the hospital with my mind glued on one thing. Clover. The surgery.I just needed to see John and Aria, then rush back before the surgery was over.I had to.The moment I stepped into the hospital and got closer to Aria's ward, loud screams filled the air. They snapped me out of my thoughts. What's happening? I hurried forward. The closer I got, the louder the screams became, and the more I recognized the voice. It was Aria. She was screaming. Why? What was going on? I raced toward the room. The door was closed, but through the glass window, I

Edrick's POVClover was awake.Only after the doctor said those words did my heart begin to beat normally again.I had thought it would burst out of my ribcage with every passing second.Every step they took, every time their hands touched her, every word they said, everything blurred together.I didn't want to fall apart, but I knew I was on the brink of it.My hands wrapped around Alina. Her warmth was the only thing keeping me grounded. I needed her.The doctor said she was responding. That was all I needed to breathe again. We rushed towards her. The nurse adjusted one machine after another while every second felt like an eternity. Finally, she moved away, and we could lean closer.“Clover.” Alina’s voice shook. With fear, with hope.“Clover, can you hear me?” she called again while I just stood there, watching. Maybe I did not have words, or maybe I was scared one word from me would break this fragile moment.“Clover, it’s Mommy.” Tears were forming in her eyes now. I stretched m

ALINA'S POVAll the anger, the fury, everything paused.Beep, beep, beep. The sound was loud. And for a moment, I did not know what was going on.Not until Edrick looked at the door.It was coming from Clover’s room.“Check her. I’ll get the doctor.” He said those words as he sprinted out of the room.My chest was beating. My legs felt glued to the floor. Still, I forced myself to move.It must have taken less than a second to get to the door, but for me, it took hours. No, ages. The door felt heavier than usual. Or maybe my hands were just too weak.I raced to the bed.Clover was still lying motionless, the way we left her. But the machines were beeping nonstop. Every light on the machine flashed different colors.I brought my trembling hands to her chest, searching for any sign that she was moving.I felt nothing. Or maybe my hands were shaking too much to feel anything.“Clo-ver?” My voice cracked. My hands moved to her cold face, her unmoving eyes.“Please, baby. Please open your

Edrick’s POVShe was shaking so hard I thought she might break in my arms. And for some reason, it felt like I was the one falling apart. Alina’s POVThe spa was tucked away on the far side of the island, a world apart from the chaos of the main villa.
