Chapter 7

The first thing I did when I got home was to officially sever ties with my family.

I had put it off before because I was worried about what someone like my mother would do if she found out I had married someone rich and powerful.

My mother had never treated me well since I was young, and I knew her character well.

I just held onto the hope that she would change. Now that I thought about it, James had protected me too well. I had forgotten how ugly a person's nature could be.

I recuperated at home for many days before I finally reopened my café.

When I got to the café's doors, I was surprised to see my mother, Titus, and Boris kneeling on the ground. They were a mess and looked like beggars, especially Titus and Boris, who looked quite weak.

Boris' eyes lit up when he saw me. He came forward to grab my arm.

I did not expect them to track me down here.

"What are you doing here? Haven't you had enough of James' revenge? Have you come here for more?"

My mother's expression froze.
