For a few seconds, I couldn't speak. I stared at Christian. Then at Lisa. Then back at Christian. My brother's arm was still around her waist. Lisa was smiling. Not nervously. Not awkwardly. She looked completely comfortable standing there. Which somehow made it worse.

“Your girlfriend?”

Christian nodded.

“Yes.”

I blinked.

“You're dating Lisa?”

“Yes, Hilary.”

I let out a small laugh, mostly because I genuinely didn't know what else to do.

“You're serious?”

Christian's expression changed slightl

“Daddy, you have to stay for dinner.”Isabella’s little hands were wrapped around Blake’s arm, and she was looking up at him with the kind of hopeful expression that made it almost impossible to say no.Blake glanced at me. I immediately looked away.“Please, Daddy. Mummy said we could have dinner together.”I turned towards her. “I said we could have dinner, sweetheart. I don’t remember saying anything about inviting people.”Blake’s lips twitched.“People?” he repeated.“Would you prefer a stranger?”Isabella giggled, completely unaware of the tension between us. “Daddy isn’t a stranger, Mummy.”Of course he wasn’t. That was precisely the problem. Blake crouched in front of her. “I’d love to stay, princess. But only if your mummy agrees.”His eyes lifted to mine. I hated that he was leaving the decision to me. It would have been easier if he’d simply insisted. Then I could have told him exactly where to go. Instead, he stood there looking patient, while our daughter waited for my a

I woke to the sound of Isabella laughing. For a moment, I remained beneath the duvet, enjoying the unfamiliar sound drifting from downstairs. Then I remembered the events of the previous day, and the smile slowly disappeared from my face.My mother was alive. Christian had kept the truth from me. And Blake… Blake was still in this house, occupying thoughts I had spent the entire night trying to avoid.I slipped into my robe and headed downstairs. The sight that greeted me made me stop at the entrance to the kitchen.Blake stood behind the counter, wearing a white shirt with the sleeves folded to his elbows. Isabella sat on one of the kitchen stools, her little legs swinging as she watched him struggle with a bowl of pancake batter.“You’re doing it wrong, Daddy.”He glanced at her. “I’m beginning to suspect you’re not as helpful as you promised.”“I am helping.”“Really? And what exactly have you contributed?”“Supervision.”I couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at my lips.Blak

The house had finally settled into silence. After the chaos of the afternoon, Isabella had fallen asleep in my room, exhausted from everything that had happened. I tucked the duvet around her and kissed her forehead before quietly leaving.I needed a moment to breathe.Unfortunately, the moment I stepped downstairs, I found Christian waiting in the sitting room."Don't," I warned. He raised his hands. "I haven't said anything.""Your face is already apologising. It's irritating."He sighed. "Hilary, I know I should have told you about Mum.""Should have? Christian, you allowed a woman I believed was dead to build a relationship with my daughter without my knowledge.""I was trying to understand what happened first.""And you couldn't involve me?"He looked down."I was afraid you'd react exactly like this."I stared at him."Well, congratulations. Your prediction was spectacularly accurate."I walked past him before he could respond. I wasn't ready to forgive him, and I certainly wasn

"Call the police," I said, struggling to keep my voice steady. "No, wait. We don't even know what happened yet. Just get the car ready."Blake stood beside me, phone pressed to his ear as he issued instructions to his security team. The directors had been dismissed, the meeting abandoned, and the documents on the table forgotten. For once, I didn't care about work.My daughter was missing.Every second felt like a punishment, every unanswered question another crack in the fragile control I was desperately trying to maintain."Geoffrey is bringing the car around," Blake said after ending his call. "My security team is checking the usual places. I've asked them to contact the caregiver directly."I nodded, barely hearing him."Isabella has never disappeared like this before.""We'll find her.""You don't know that.""No," he admitted, stepping closer. "But I won't stand here and pretend there's nothing we can do."I looked at him. The sincerity in his eyes nearly broke me. Not because I

By eleven in the morning, I had discovered that working with Blake Carrington was a special kind of punishment. Not because he was incompetent. That would have been easier. The man was annoyingly good at his job. He listened in meetings, considered opposing arguments, and made decisions without turning every disagreement into a power play. Worse, he no longer tried to force his way into my personal space. He was giving me exactly what I had demanded: professionalism, distance, and the freedom to pretend that his presence didn't affect me.Unfortunately, my heart hadn't received the memo. I was reviewing a stack of documents when a knock sounded against my open office door."Come in."Geoffrey appeared with a cup of coffee in one hand and a sandwich in the other."Your lunch," he announced, placing them on my desk.I glanced at the clock. "It's eleven.""And you've been surviving on coffee since eight. I'm choosing to intervene before you become unbearable.""How thoughtful. Should I p

The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the silence. The second was the empty side of the bed.I stared at the pillow beside me, at the faint indentation in the sheets where William used to sleep, and waited for the familiar ache in my chest to convince me that the previous night had been a nightmare. It didn't.The room was painfully ordinary. Sunlight slipped through the curtains. My phone sat on the bedside table. Somewhere beyond my bedroom door, the household had begun its morning routine. And William was gone. I sat up slowly, pulling the covers around myself. For a moment, I considered calling him. Then I remembered the ring in his hand. The look on his face when I'd asked him to leave. The way he'd finally walked away. I reached for my phone anyway. No messages. No missed calls. Nothing.“Excellent,” I muttered. “I've officially been abandoned by a billionaire before breakfast. Mother would be so proud.”The joke fell flat in the empty room. I put my phone down. I wasn't
