Chapter 2

Author: Soymilk
Hence, I happily drove her to the city hall again.

This time, we had already reached the registration counter and were about to take out our documents when I heard a commotion behind me.

“What are you doing? This is trespassing!”

Olivia and I turned around and saw Martin showing up with Teddy’s dead body. He was crying when he ran toward us.

“Olivia, is your marriage that important? Why did you leave Teddy alone in the clinic? You weren’t even there for him when he crossed the rainbow bridge!”

Olivia immediately started crying. “I’m sorry, Teddy. Mommy’s sorry.”

Martin glared at me and then softened his tone before he spoke to Olivia, “I’m not blaming you. Did Ethan force you to come here and make you miss your last moments with Teddy?”

I immediately frowned. “I have never forced her to do anything. Please don’t lie.”

“I didn’t lie! It’s all your fault! Teddy was initially at home, and he could’ve lived for a few more days. But you kept calling Olivia. The ringtone scared Teddy off and worsened his heart issues. That’s why he died earlier!”

Even though he was sobbing, I noticed he used the word “home”.

It was then that I realized that a seed of doubt was planted in me. It was hard to suppress my growing suspicions.

I immediately turned around to ask Olivia, “I thought you said you were at the clinic for the past three days. Where were you exactly?”

Olivia sobbed even harder. She even threw punches at my chest.

“Teddy’s dead, and I’m already upset enough. Why are you suspicious of me? Is this how you show your love to me?

“Ethan, I’m very disappointed in you. Martin and I were childhood friends, and you knew that when you first got together with me. If there was anything between him and me, would I have agreed to marry you?”

I was having second thoughts when I heard her pitiful cries. I even felt sorry for her. Maybe I was overthinking it.

Indeed, when they first got together, I knew that they were childhood best friends. I also had a good relationship with Martin. Sometimes, we would hang out and drink together.

I immediately apologized to Olivia. I said, “I’m sorry, it’s my fault. Please don’t be upset.”

One of the staff members behind us started rushing us. “Are you still going to go through with the registration process? It only takes a few minutes. Can’t you talk after completing it?”

“Yes!”

“No!”

Martin was the one who yelled no.

I stared at him in disbelief.

He said righteously to Olivia, “Are you sure you want to get married happily before Teddy’s dead body? Olivia, when did you become so heartless?”

I was also feeling a mix of emotions.

Then, I said frustratedly to Olivia, “It only takes a few minutes to legalize our marriage. The choice is yours.”

Olivia stared at me with teary eyes. “I’ll come back again after I bury Teddy, alright? Wait for me.”

I swallowed my disappointment and nodded.

I gestured and said, “Just go. We can get our marriage certificate after our wedding ceremony.”

My happy mood was ruined, so even though she agreed to marry me today, I did not want to go through with it anymore. I had lost the desire to do so.

After they left, the staff looked at me with pity.

The staff member who was handling our registration said, “Young man, this isn’t exactly a bad thing.”

After I put my documents away and walked out of the city hall, I did not go home. Instead, I secretly followed them in my car.

Peter and Liz were dumbfounded. Then, I dropped another shocking piece of news. “Something happened to Reid Corporation a while back, right? Your company almost went bankrupt? He was behind that.“It’s because after I saved his company, he got involved in the black market and produced fake goods. He even produced fake medicine! He managed to earn a lot of money, but he’s not satisfied. He wanted to expand his black market business, so he’s eyeing your company. “Once he manages to take your company down, he can secretly buy it at a low price. That’s why he won’t allow my family to invest in yours! The only way was to break Olivia and me up!“But I’m quite grateful to him. Now I see who you truly are!” After the truth was revealed, Olivia cried and begged me for forgiveness. “I’m sorry, Ethan. I did like him before, but after I got together with you, I truly fell in love with you. That’s why I broke up with him. He’s the one who keeps pursuing me. That’s why I… Please give me o

Then, Sam started to pan his camera around. “Ethan, we’ve already decorated the wedding venue. Look at the blue sky and the garden. It’s definitely the most romantic place. Quick, fly over. Don’t waste any more time.” At the same time, Peter, Liz, and a few of their relatives rushed in. They questioned me in anger, “Are you messing with us?”I shook my head. “I’m here today to tell you the truth. It’s not a joke. I’m already being very kind to you.”“What truth? Ethan, you’re a madman! Olivia and Martin are childhood best friends. Why are you so jealous? Why do you have to suspect them and turn things into this mess?”“Alright, Peter. Calm down. Let’s look at the big screen.” The screen immediately started playing my car’s dashcam footage. That day, when I parked my car and saw them talking and kissing, I did not pull out my phone to record them because my car’s dashcam was doing just that. After they watched that, Peter and Liz were dumbfounded. Olivia was still trying

I answered simply, “Sure. Whatever you think.”At the same time, Peter suddenly asked, “Oh, right, what about the eighty million dollars investment you promised…”I immediately straightened up and answered, “Oh, the money will be transferred over on the wedding day.”When I said that, I looked at Madison. However, the Reid family was so happy that they did not notice my expression. After I sent them off, I told my parents the truth. “Mom, Dad, thanks for withholding your anger in front of them just now.”Unexpectedly, my father guffawed. He sounded proud. “My son will not fall in the same trap twice. I trust you. If you need any help, I’ll definitely give my full support!” Two days passed very quickly. It was very soon the wedding day. Early in the morning, Olivia sent me a lot of text messages to update me that she had woken up, done her makeup, and had decorated our place. [Ethan, they’re going to tease you later when you come. Don’t bother. I’ll ask them to stop. S

I nodded faintly. “Peter, I’d also like you to be my father-in-law, but your daughter doesn’t want to marry me at all. I have no other choice. Please don’t call yourself my father-in-law in the future. It’s not right.”Olivia’s mother, Liz Reid, immediately teared up. “Olivia has been with you for two years. How can you just break up with her like that? You can’t bully us just because you’re rich.”Then, she looked at my mother. “Nancy, even though this is the first time we’re meeting, I want to let you know we’re a good family. The wedding is in a few days, and the invitations have all been sent out. How can Ethan suddenly call it off? What will people think of us?”Peter continued, “Your son had an affair in the first place. We can’t just let this slide!” Before I could speak, my father said, “Ethan didn’t marry Olivia yet. It’s not right to accuse him of having an affair.“Besides, my family members are raised with poise and respect, including our butler. He’s only rude to p

I was already losing my patience, so I said directly, “I’m asking you where you spent the night last night. Don’t avoid my question!” “I… Of course, I was at home the whole night.”After hearing her answer, I felt relieved. She was actually my first love. Before her, other girls wanted to pursue me, and there were a lot of them. However, at that time, I felt that they were not as good as Madison. Then, I met Olivia. She was the first woman that I felt Madison could not compare to. Olivia was innocent and delicate. She had two tiny dimples when she smiled, and she looked extremely sweet. She made me want to protect her. As for Madison, she was capable and organized. I felt that she was a safe place for me. Whatever I did in front of her gave me no sense of achievement. Hence, I doted on and loved Olivia for the past two years. Quoting Sam, I treated Olivia too well, even better than how I treated my own parents. Even though she had betrayed me, I could not just set my fee

Martin also sent me a text message to mock me.[You love Olivia so much, and you’re groveling like a dog. How could you leave her? I know you saw us kissing today, and that’s why you’re faking this photo to win her love a little more. How childish.]The most unexpected text message was from my mother. [Ethan, is this Madison’s hand? She’s our lifesaver. If you don’t love her, please don’t do her wrong. We have already accepted that you’ll marry Olivia.]I immediately sent my mother a text message. [Mom, please help me to tell Dad that I was wrong. I’ll listen to you in the future.]Then, my phone kept ringing. Olivia was calling me nonstop, but I hung up on her every single time. Then, I clicked on my social media post again. When I saw Madison’s “like”, I kept smiling. I turned around and smiled at her. “Hey, beautiful. I’m lost. Are you willing to bring me home?”I did not go home the entire night. Instead, I spent the most beautiful night with Madison on the yacht. Th
