Chapter 2

Autor: Easy Herb
Seeing the relief on Father's face, I gave a self-deprecating smile and turned to go. I hadn't gone far when Father caught me again.

He grabbed me by the collar of my jacket and forced me to face him. "Are you done throwing your tantrum? Joanna needs this spot to prove her worth to the entire pack!

"But you're different. You have my blood running through your veins. You're my daughter. I'll support you for the rest of your life. You don't need to worry about your future. All you need is a strong mate from the pack."

I listened to him go on as if he were in the right, then forcefully pried his hand off my collar.

He was actually urging me to give up my chance to make something for myself and become someone else's shadow just to fulfill Joanna's dream.

I laughed out loud. All their love had belonged to me before Joanna showed up.

Back then, Father didn't trust the Omega in charge of the chores to look after me. Since I was still a pup, he took me everywhere with him.

No matter how late his patrols around the territory ran or when the full-moon hunts ended, he'd always come back to comfort me and tell me ancient legends about the Moon Goddess.

He'd personally escort me to the Werewolf Academy every single day and even make sure I had a seat right beside him during Elder Council meetings.

Everyone in the pack knew how protective he was of me.

But the man standing before me now, threatening me in his half-wolf form, could only talk about how hard Joanna's life had been as a rogue and tell me to give in to her.

"You want to give Joanna the best of everything. Sure, I can let her have it, or I can choose not to fight for it." I brushed his hand away and stepped backward. "But I don't owe her anything. Why should I just hand over the future I risked my life for as if it were some free gift?

"Let me leave. Don't waste the last bit of love between us."

I ignored his furious expression and turned to run toward the Elder Council before he could blow up.

I arrived to see Theo Moore, the elder on duty, dozing off under an oil lamp. He looked startled when I burst in.

I slapped the application down on the table. "Mr. Moore, I'd like to leave the pack. Please stamp my application."

Theo put on his reading glasses and examined the form. Then, he looked up at Father, who came rushing in behind me, panting. His hands shook.

"Are you sure you want to leave the pack?"

Father's face turned livid as he charged over to tear up the application. "Nina, don't you dare!"

I saw it coming and snatched the red seal beside Theo, slamming it onto the approval box. Just like that, my application was approved.

Father glared at the red stamp. "You've really gotten bold! You think this is enough to make me back down? Listen up. You're not leaving this territory, stamp or no stamp!"

No longer caring about keeping up appearances, he grabbed me by the scruff and dragged me home.

As soon as we arrived, Joanna came running out of the living room. She was still wearing the custom-made dress I'd never even gotten to try on.

When she saw the gash on Father's arm, she immediately covered her mouth as tears rolled down her face.

"Father, how did you get hurt? It's all my fault. I shouldn't have upset Nina. If she's angry, she can hit me or yell at me all she wants. But why did she have to hurt you?" She wept bitterly, looking as if she'd suffered some terrible injustice.

My eldest brother, Ian Moretti, rushed out of the house. His eyes turned red. "Nina, are you insane? How could you hurt your own father? You've crossed the line!"

I ignored his shouting and had just taken a step forward when Ian suddenly moved in front of me.

He spread his arms in a defensive stance, shielding the frail, helpless Joana completely behind him.

Although I'd long stopped expecting anything from him, seeing him look at me like I was a threat still hurt. My blood ran cold.

I walked past them and headed to the room I'd lived in for over a decade to pack my last few belongings.

From now on, we would go our separate ways.

Joanna's words hit the Moretti family like a bombshell, stripping away their last shred of dignity.Color drained from Father's face as he crawled over to Joanna and grabbed her by the throat, squeezing hard. "Bitch, shut up! Shut the fuck up!"Ian and Ashton panicked too, desperately trying to explain themselves."Nina, don't listen to her lies! She's trying to drive a wedge between us!""We were just momentarily blinded. You're still the one we love most!"I watched them turn on each other and found it ridiculous. They were the very family I'd once tried so hard to please. Even after all the hurt they'd put me through, I'd still refused to leave them.I stood up and walked to the edge of the city wall. My voice carried far through the cold wind. "I don't care if you live or die. Father, weren't you so sure of yourself when you told me to get lost? You said you'd take care of Joanna for the rest of your life. Keep your word."Drive them out. If they dare come even half a step

News of Joanna's expulsion quickly spread through the pack, dragging the Moretti family's reputation with it. The merchant groups that had been willing to work with the Moretti family because of Father's influence began pulling their investments.Without the healing potions I'd spent day and night making, the Moretti family's guards suffered heavy casualties during several hunts, and the pack's defenses grew weaker by the day. Then, Joanna caused another huge disaster. To win favor with a few powerful nobles from other packs, she secretly took the Moretti family's most prized treasure, the Bloodfang, and traded it for flashy luxury goods.By the time Father found out, those nobles had long since disappeared with it. Without their ancestral treasure to intimidate their enemies, several neighboring rival packs immediately joined forces and launched a fierce assault on the Moretti family's territory. In just half a month, their territory had shrunk by more than half. Countless pack me

Father stepped forward and scolded me, "Nina, how dare you talk to your brothers like that? You've been gone for days. How long are you going to keep this up? The family's in trouble now, and you're one of us. Is it really so much to ask you to help Joanna out?"Joanna poked her head out timidly, staring at me with tears in her eyes. "Nina, please help me, okay? You're so strong. A few beatings won't hurt you. But if they expel me, I won't be able to live."She had just finished speaking when the doors were thrown open. The dean, Mike Baldwin, walked in with several elders.Father immediately put on a fawning smile and hurried over to greet them. "Mr. Baldwin, please hear me out. Joanna…"Mike didn't even spare him a glance, walking right past him and straight toward me.The four members of the Moretti family watched in shock as Mike greeted me respectfully."Ms. Lowe, your special admission has been processed. Since you've awakened the White Wolf bloodline, the Elder Council has

Once we arrived at the North pack, Mother immediately hired the best healer for me.The old wounds on my body and the hours I'd spent under the blazing sun left me sleeping for two whole days. When I woke up, Mother was sitting by my bed with a bowl of nourishing soup."Nina, let bygones be bygones. From now on, the North pack will be behind you."I drank the soup and clasped Mother's hand. "Mother, I want to take the special admissions exam at the Werewolf Academy next month."The spot I'd gotten before was just for a regular exchange student. The special admissions exam was designed to select the strongest fighters. Only three spots were available across the entire continent. Any werewolf who passed would be admitted directly into the Elder Council's training program.Mother patted my hand. "Sure. I'll support you all the way."For the next month, I threw myself into training at the North pack's harshest training ground. Every day, I fought against extreme cold and heavy snow,

Mother strode over and swept me into her arms as I lay limp on the ground. When she felt my burning forehead, her breathing grew heavy. The pack members who'd gathered around backed away in fright.Mother boomed, "Who did this?"Father finally recovered from his shock. He strode forward, trying to put on the air of authority befitting the head of the family. "Lena, don't make a big deal out of this. Nina made a mistake and hurt Joanna. I was just teaching her a lesson. If you take her away now, you'll only make her more unruly!"Mother sneered, then slapped Father hard across the face. The force knocked his head to the side, and his cheek immediately swelled. The whole square fell dead silent.Ian and Ashton stared in shock. When they finally came to their senses, they both shouted furiously, "How dare you hit our father!"Ian charged at her with his fist raised. Two guards quickly moved forward and kicked the backs of Ian's knees, sending him crashing to the floor. They twisted

The flames quickly swallowed everything, burning it all to ashes.Ian and the others caught the smell and rushed in.Ian's eyes twitched as he watched the flames consume it all. "You think burning these things will scare us?"He took a step toward me, sneering as if I were just throwing a tantrum to get my way. "You're using these extreme measures to threaten us, hoping we'll give in. Do you really think we'll feel sorry for you and agree to your demands?"Father shot him a glare, and he could only shut his mouth resentfully.Joanna hid behind Ashton, biting her lip and looking all pitiful. "Ashton, Nina even burned the things you guys gave her. Does she not want you guys anymore? It's all my fault. Maybe I shouldn't have stayed here in the first place."Ashton couldn't stand seeing Joanna cry, so he grabbed my arm and pointed toward the blazing sun outside."You burned all these things and hurt Joanna too. Your punishment will be harsher than usual today. Stand in the square fo
