Chapter 3

Autor: Easy Herb
I had just stuffed a few pieces of clothing into my backpack when Joanna walked in.

She came over to me and tugged on my sleeve. "Nina, don't leave, okay? I'll give the spot back to you. Don't upset our brothers, okay?"

When I didn't respond, her voice turned tearful. "I know you hate me. If you stay, I'll move out tomorrow."

She dug her nails into my flesh as she spoke.

I turned and glared at her coldly. "Let go."

Not only did she refuse to let go, but she even tightened her grip.

"Nina, please. I'm begging you."

I ran out of patience and pulled my hand free without using much force, but Joanna immediately fell backward onto the ground. She shrieked as if her bones were broken.

My second brother, Ashton Moretti, happened to be outside the door and came charging in when he heard the commotion. His eyes filled with murderous fury upon seeing Joanna lying on the floor.

"Nina, why are you so cruel? Joanna came to make peace with you, and you actually attacked her? How did we end up with a sister like you?"

Ian rushed in after Ashton and shoved me aside.

I was caught off guard and stumbled backward, slamming my shoulder into the corner of a cabinet. I fell to the floor, half my arm going numb from the pain.

Before I could even react, I saw Father, Ian, and Ashton crowding around Joanna, fussing over her.

"Joanna, does it hurt?"

"Don't worry. I'll get you the best ointment!"

"Father, check if Joanna broke any bones."

My entire right arm hurt so badly that I could barely feel it, while Joanna hadn't even scraped her skin. Yet not one of them turned to look at me.

How ironic. The care they'd once shown me had all turned into hostility.

I stared straight at Father. He opened his mouth, but in the end, he said nothing.

It was just like three months ago, when Joanna stole my necklace and showed it off at the market, only to be exposed in front of everyone by nobles from another pack.

When Father found out, he didn't hesitate to hang the necklace Mother had left me around Joanna's neck and declare her his most precious daughter.

Ian and Ashton even tracked down the nobles who'd mocked her that very night, beat them up, and made them apologize to Joanna in person.

And just like that, everyone stopped making fun of her.

I had the purest bloodline, yet I became the family's unloved daughter, the one everyone gossiped about for being pushed aside.

When I brought it up, my family brushed me off, saying, "They just love to gossip. You're strong. You don't need a reputation to prove yourself."

I was frustrated with what they said, but they took Joanna to the most expensive resort in Raxley for three whole days just to cheer her up.

Watching the four of them fuss over one another right now made me feel like a complete outsider.

I reached out and rolled my shoulder, but the numbness was getting worse. Holding my aching shoulder, I turned to Joanna, who was still pretending to cry. I opened my mouth, but the words "I didn't even touch her" never came out.

What was the point of explaining? They'd only believe what they wanted to believe.

I lowered my eyes and gave a bitter smile before saying, "If that's what you say, then so be it."

Without looking at Joanna again, I turned and headed for the suitcase in the corner.

Ashton shot to his feet, furious at what I'd said. "You're still making snide remarks after pushing her to the ground?"

He raised his hand but stopped inches from my cheek, trembling violently. In the end, he couldn't bring himself to strike me.

"Nina, you've really disappointed us. Are you really that selfish? You'd really put one spot above your own family?"

I smiled helplessly as Ashton slowly lowered his hand.

"Yeah, I'm selfish. So go protect your new sister. Leave me alone."

They froze for a moment. They'd never seen me like this before. In their eyes, I'd always been the silly girl who'd bend over backward to please them.

I turned back toward the suitcase.

Ashton gritted his teeth, as if my calm response had hurt him. "Well! Very well! You're staying in your room to reflect on what you've done. You can come out when you're ready to admit you're wrong! If not, you're not taking a single thing from this house!"

With that, they slammed my bedroom door shut.

Father's voice came through the door, "Why did you lose your temper with Nina? Can't you talk to her properly?"

I felt nothing as I listened.

As soon as they left, I took the wolf-fang necklace Ian had spent three months polishing and the little trinkets the three of them had given me over the years and tossed them all into the fire.

Joanna's words hit the Moretti family like a bombshell, stripping away their last shred of dignity.Color drained from Father's face as he crawled over to Joanna and grabbed her by the throat, squeezing hard. "Bitch, shut up! Shut the fuck up!"Ian and Ashton panicked too, desperately trying to explain themselves."Nina, don't listen to her lies! She's trying to drive a wedge between us!""We were just momentarily blinded. You're still the one we love most!"I watched them turn on each other and found it ridiculous. They were the very family I'd once tried so hard to please. Even after all the hurt they'd put me through, I'd still refused to leave them.I stood up and walked to the edge of the city wall. My voice carried far through the cold wind. "I don't care if you live or die. Father, weren't you so sure of yourself when you told me to get lost? You said you'd take care of Joanna for the rest of your life. Keep your word."Drive them out. If they dare come even half a step

News of Joanna's expulsion quickly spread through the pack, dragging the Moretti family's reputation with it. The merchant groups that had been willing to work with the Moretti family because of Father's influence began pulling their investments.Without the healing potions I'd spent day and night making, the Moretti family's guards suffered heavy casualties during several hunts, and the pack's defenses grew weaker by the day. Then, Joanna caused another huge disaster. To win favor with a few powerful nobles from other packs, she secretly took the Moretti family's most prized treasure, the Bloodfang, and traded it for flashy luxury goods.By the time Father found out, those nobles had long since disappeared with it. Without their ancestral treasure to intimidate their enemies, several neighboring rival packs immediately joined forces and launched a fierce assault on the Moretti family's territory. In just half a month, their territory had shrunk by more than half. Father stepped forward and scolded me, "Nina, how dare you talk to your brothers like that? You've been gone for days. How long are you going to keep this up? The family's in trouble now, and you're one of us. Is it really so much to ask you to help Joanna out?"Joanna poked her head out timidly, staring at me with tears in her eyes. "Nina, please help me, okay? You're so strong. A few beatings won't hurt you. But if they expel me, I won't be able to live."She had just finished speaking when the doors were thrown open. The dean, Mike Baldwin, walked in with several elders.Father immediately put on a fawning smile and hurried over to greet them. "Mr. Baldwin, please hear me out. Joanna…"Mike didn't even spare him a glance, walking right past him and straight toward me.The four members of the Moretti family watched in shock as Mike greeted me respectfully."Ms. Lowe, your special admission has been processed. Since you've awakened the White Wolf bloodline, the Elder Council has

Once we arrived at the North pack, Mother immediately hired the best healer for me.The old wounds on my body and the hours I'd spent under the blazing sun left me sleeping for two whole days. When I woke up, Mother was sitting by my bed with a bowl of nourishing soup."Nina, let bygones be bygones. From now on, the North pack will be behind you."I drank the soup and clasped Mother's hand. "Mother, I want to take the special admissions exam at the Werewolf Academy next month."The spot I'd gotten before was just for a regular exchange student. The special admissions exam was designed to select the strongest fighters. Only three spots were available across the entire continent. Any werewolf who passed would be admitted directly into the Elder Council's training program.Mother patted my hand. "Sure. I'll support you all the way."For the next month, I threw myself into training at the North pack's harshest training ground. Every day, I fought against extreme cold and heavy snow,

Mother strode over and swept me into her arms as I lay limp on the ground. When she felt my burning forehead, her breathing grew heavy. The pack members who'd gathered around backed away in fright.Mother boomed, "Who did this?"Father finally recovered from his shock. He strode forward, trying to put on the air of authority befitting the head of the family. "Lena, don't make a big deal out of this. Nina made a mistake and hurt Joanna. I was just teaching her a lesson. If you take her away now, you'll only make her more unruly!"Mother sneered, then slapped Father hard across the face. The force knocked his head to the side, and his cheek immediately swelled. The whole square fell dead silent.Ian and Ashton stared in shock. When they finally came to their senses, they both shouted furiously, "How dare you hit our father!"Ian charged at her with his fist raised. Two guards quickly moved forward and kicked the backs of Ian's knees, sending him crashing to the floor. They twisted

The flames quickly swallowed everything, burning it all to ashes.Ian and the others caught the smell and rushed in.Ian's eyes twitched as he watched the flames consume it all. "You think burning these things will scare us?"He took a step toward me, sneering as if I were just throwing a tantrum to get my way. "You're using these extreme measures to threaten us, hoping we'll give in. Do you really think we'll feel sorry for you and agree to your demands?"Father shot him a glare, and he could only shut his mouth resentfully.Joanna hid behind Ashton, biting her lip and looking all pitiful. "Ashton, Nina even burned the things you guys gave her. Does she not want you guys anymore? It's all my fault. Maybe I shouldn't have stayed here in the first place."Ashton couldn't stand seeing Joanna cry, so he grabbed my arm and pointed toward the blazing sun outside."You burned all these things and hurt Joanna too. Your punishment will be harsher than usual today. Stand in the square fo
