I stopped for a moment, pretending to fixate on the soup. Why? He said it with clarity, but there was a chill in my heart.

I divided the hot soup into two bowls and placed them on the table after a few minutes. Then we started eating, and I was sitting facing him.

I smiled when I first savored it. "It's still tasty," I said.
