Sienna’s POV

My eyes burned. “I’m not pushing him away. I’m just… setting boundaries. So he learns that I won’t stay quiet when I’m hurt. I’m a mother, Liam, but I’m also human.”

Liam rubbed his face in frustration. “You always turn everything into a battlefield. Like everything is about survival.”

“Because that’s what life with you felt like!” My voice rose slightly. “Surviving. Surviving being ignored, being forgotten, being made to feel like I didn’t matter. Even to my own child.”

He stared at me for a long time. “So this is all just… revenge?”

I stood, slinging my bag over my shoulder. “No. This is self-defense. And I’m too tired to keep explaining that.”

Liam stood too. “Sienna, please—listen—”

I raised a hand to stop him.

“No, Liam. Don’t follow me. Don’t look for me. Even if we run into each other by accident, don’t speak to me. I want peace. And you’re the epicenter of all the pain I’m trying to

Liam’s POV My mother’s face flushed with anger. Her breathing quickened. And then, suddenly—smack—her hand struck my cheek. Hot. Burning.Noah, who had been sitting on the couch, went completely still, eyes wide in shock.I didn’t move. I simply stared at my mother, whose hands were trembling from emotion.“If you’re suffering, it’s because of your own choices, Liam!” she shouted. “You chose to live in the past! You refused to open your heart again after Emily left! You let Sienna love you without ever giving her hope!”I clenched my jaw. “I know.”Her eyes were glassy now, but her voice remained hard. “And if you want to know who made your life this way… look in the mirror. Don’t point at me. Don’t point at Emily. This is all you.”I stood silent. Her words struck harder than her hand ever could.“And one more thing,” she added, her voice lower now, but piercing. “If you hadn’t drowned in your own pain, maybe Sienna wouldn’t have entered your life.

Liam’s POV I shut my eyes for a moment. My mind spun. I hadn’t showered. Emily was still knocked out from drinking. The food was ruined. My son was inconsolable. Time was ticking. And me—Liam—the so-called grown man who was supposed to handle everything calmly… could only stand in the middle of the mess, unsure where to begin. Finally, I got up, opened the pantry, and grabbed a pack of chocolate biscuits that was still unopened. “Here, just for now, okay? I promise we’ll get a real breakfast on the way.”Noah looked at the biscuits, still crying but calming a little. He took one hesitantly and nibbled at it. I sat across from him, trying to smile even though I felt like I was falling apart.7:17 a.m.If I took a five-minute shower, maybe I could still make it. But what about Noah? Who would take him if Emily didn’t get up?I looked at my son, then down at my phone. I had no other option.“Noah, put this on for now. I’ll find your other uniform l

Liam’s POVThe sun had only just peeked through the curtains, and the air still held a chill when my feet touched the floor. I sat on the edge of the bed for a moment, trying to steady my breath before I stood and made my way to the dining room. I hoped for the scent of coffee or toasted bread to greet me.But all I found was an empty, silent table. There was no smell of anything.I glanced toward the kitchen. Also empty. No breakfast preparations, no bread out of its packaging, no clinking of pans heating on the stove.I closed the fridge and stood motionless in the center of the kitchen. My eyes scanned the room that once felt so alive—now just a shell with no meaning. I opened the cupboard, pulled out a single mug, and made a simple instant coffee. Sienna’s favorite coffee wasn’t there anymore, just remnants of my own habits that never really changed.Hot water flowed from the dispenser, releasing a faint steam into the air. The scent of coffee slowly fill

Sienna’s POV Sunlight streamed gently through the curtains, casting a soft warmth across the room. I stirred beneath the covers, blinking open heavy eyes as the sound of a phone ringing snapped me into alertness. I sat up with a start, glancing at the digital clock on the wall.7:52 a.m.My eyes widened in panic. “Liliana!”From the top bunk, Liliana jolted awake. “Oh no! I overslept!”She scrambled down, her hair a mess, still half-asleep, grabbing for her work bag. “Why didn’t my alarm go off?!”“I don’t know,” I muttered, yawning as I scrambled to find her blazer and car keys she’d tossed somewhere last night.Liliana paced frantically back and forth like someone trapped in a whirlwind—yanking on her jacket, snatching up her heels, and digging under pillows for her missing phone.“Sienna—please! My wallet!” she cried out, half-laughing, half-panicking.I nodded and handed her the wallet I’d seen on the dining table earlier. “Here. No time

Sienna’s POV The kitchen light gradually dimmed, thanks to the automatic timer. Yet, we stayed right where we were, enveloped in a silence that spoke volumes. Deep down, I felt a flicker of hope—that maybe I could heal, one word at a time. I sat still, my eyes following an empty soda can as it rolled under the table. I didn’t need to respond to Liliana; I knew she understood. Sometimes, words don’t need a reply. They just need to be felt. I glanced at the wall clock. It was almost one in the morning, and the sounds of traffic outside had faded to a whisper. I stifled a yawn and turned to Liliana, who was still on the couch, rubbing the back of her neck. “Liliana,” I called softly. “Do you want to sleep now? I can grab the blanket.” Liliana opened her eyes halfway and nodded, her fatigue evident. “Yeah, I’m really sleepy. That soda totally knocked me out.” I smiled and got up. “Alright. Go wash up first if you’d like. I’ll make our bed.” “Yes, ma’a

Sienna’s POV The night had quietly passed us by. The clock on the wall moved nearer to midnight and the table was a jumbled mess of empty soda cans and leftover munchies—a bag of chips open, some chocolate stained on crumpled tissue and a bowl that used to hold popcorn but was now bare. Still, neither of us wanted to clean up. Liliana and I were comfy on the couch, our shoulders touching as we shared silly jokes and soft laughs while thinking back about school days. “Do you recall?” Liliana asked, enjoying the final bit of chocolate we had found in the drawer “when we missed gym class since we just didn’t feel like running?” I laughed a little. "And we found ourselves hiding in the tools room, eating chips from your bag. Then our gym teacher nearly caught us when he went by—" “—and we stopped like figures!” Liliana cut in, laughing hard. I joined in, our laughs echoing in the little apart
