Sienna's POV

Liliana laughed quietly.

“That’s because you have a habit of doubting your abilities." She reclined in her chair. "Do you recall when you initially gave me your writing to review? You apologized in advance as though it was bound to let me down.”

I gave a smile. That night came back, to mind clearly my hands shaking as I hit send my heart racing while anticipating a response that seemed like a judgment.

“I was afraid,” I confessed. "Afraid that I didn’t measure up.”

“At this point?" she inquired softly.

I stopped, considering the blend of feelings, within me.

"Now I’m still frightened,” I admitted at last. "Not due to doubting my ability. It’s more because I realize this is important. I don’t want to mess up."

Liliana gave a nod as though that response was completely logical.

“Feeling that fear is completely natural. It shows that you care." She grinned. "

Sienna's POV We headed to the cashier laughing softly. It seemed as though there was room within me once more. Room to breathe. Room to hope. Room to progress. We exited the café at a speed the late afternoon breeze caressing our skin. Liliana quickly indicated a quaint cake shop, across the road its retro sign gently illuminated, with the aroma of butter even before entering.“Come on, this is heaven," she remarked, pulling on my arm.The moment we entered a bell hanging above the door tinkled softly. The compact space was packed with glass cases showcasing coated pastries, fluffy sponge cakes, shiny fruit tarts and cookies that appeared just baked. The ambiance was cozy and inviting delectably sweet to brighten the mood of anyone feeling stressed.“This is my refuge, after each court hearing," Liliana murmured, as though admitting to a secret.I chuckled. "No surprise your cheeks are becoming a bit plumper.

Sienna's POV Outside the faint noise of cars passing by floated in. Life continued onward pausing for no one. Yet for the time, in ages I no longer felt abandoned by it.“I want to keep this feeling," I whispered softly. "The feeling that there’s no need to hurry. That it’s fine to move provided I don’t quit.”Liliana gave a nod of assent. "If someday you falter once more you know where to return.”I gazed at her feeling my chest grow warm more not from thrill but from a quiet feeling of security. In that instant amidst the leftover traces of coffee and the dimming daylight I realized one thing clearly, I wasn’t, by myself. That made all things seem achievable.“I suppose we’ll take that trip one day won’t we?" I inquired, to confirm.“Yes," Liliana said, raising her coffee cup "once your book is done. Once you’re back, on your feet. Once I’m done dealing with some clients who complicate my life.”

Sienna's POVI remained quiet for a moment allowing Liliana’s words to settle without any attempt to fight them. My hand continued to rest in her warm steady tangible like a tether preventing me from falling into my own mind. The café was as bustling as usual, spoons tapping on cups, voices at the adjacent tables and the strong scent of coffee but it all seemed very distant from me.My thoughts wandered back to the meeting. To the white chamber. To the expressions that pronounced my name with solemn voices. To the manuscript that had existed solely on my laptop display for ages and was now gradually becoming something palpable. There was pride. A modest triumph I ought to have rejoiced in. Yet simultaneously Emily’s presence had slipped in casting a strain, over that instant that I hadn’t invited.I breathed out gently attempting to ease the tightness in my chest. It dawned on me that I had lived much of my life in a state of survival. Even when posit

Sienna's POV “I'm just scared of hoping much " I murmured softly. "Scared that if I begin to think I deserve happiness I’ll realize that I don’t.”“If anything vanishes," Liliana answered softly, "it won’t happen due to your desires. It will occur because it wasn’t destined for you.”My chest felt heated. It pained . It warmed.During that pause Liliana kept holding my hands. She didn’t pressure me to speak. She didn’t push me to confront anything until I was prepared. She simply remained there.. Somehow her being there by my side made me feel less isolated.I inhaled deeply. My voice sounded faint, almost inaudible.“Liliana, All I desire is a life. No conflicts. No anxiety that someone from my history will appear and seize everything more.”Liliana offered me an understanding, slightly lopsided smile.“Drama will forever exist in the world, Sienna. Yet you have the power to dec

Sienna's POV I settled in, inhaled deeply and whispered gently.“Liliana, I encountered Emily during the publisher meeting.”Liliana’s eyes grew large exactly as I had anticipated. "What? Sienna, do you really mean that?”I agreed silently gazing at the cup before me.“She mentioned she is not going to abandon Liam.”Liliana grasped my hand, her tone gentle and comforting just, as usual.“Then allow me to be your support today. This burden is far too great for you to handle by yourself.”I gazed at Liliana’s fingers entwined with mine. The heat of her grasp was soothing, making me understand that since leaving the publisher’s office I had been caught in a tempest of feelings I couldn’t untangle on my own. Not because of Emily. Not because of Liam.. Because of the person I had become who now found himself in a situation I had never thought I’d achieve.I breathed out
