Aria’s POV

He was sitting too close.

I immediately pulled my hand away because the closeness was too much.

I didn’t even notice it at first until I realized his hand was resting lightly on the back of my waist. His palms were big—warm, steady—and they made my waist feel impossibly small under his touch.

I stood between his legs, holding a damp cloth in my hands as I carefully cleaned the wounds on his chest. The smell of herbs mixed with the faint scent of blood and sweat. My fingers brushed against his skin now and then, and every time they did, it felt like something electric moved through me.

His eyes caught mine, and for a moment, I forgot what I was supposed to be doing. Those eyes—they weren’t cold or harsh like everyone said. They were mesmerizing, almost soft, like a storm that had finally decided to rest. For the first time since I arrived here, I saw something real behind them.

Everyone called him ruthless, heartless, the kind of man who didn’t care about anyone or anything.
