Sloane

When Benedict pulled me into the center of the room, I was already uncomfortable. I hate being the center of attention. Nothing good ever comes of it. And after listening to those two she-wolves call trash, I'm not exactly feeling good about myself.

Then, when he started telling everyone that I’m his competition for Valedictorian, I wasn’t sure where he was going.

But when he agreed with his mother that I’m not Luna material, I finally understood. All of this, the attention at school, the invite to the party, the dance, pulling into the middle of the room, it was all a joke to belittle me in the most public way possible. No one could ever recover from being humiliated by Benedict Winslow, V.

But the metaphorical punch to the gut that I was expecting, wasn’t the punch I received, although it was no less powerful.

He knows and I can tell by the way that he’s smiling at me that my response to him just confirmed it.

“How?” I whisper.

“I keep my eyes and ears open and I pay attention

  • Forsaken by the Moon Goddess   Chapter 42: The Announcement

BenedictFocusing on finals was extremely difficult, made more so because Marrok kept up a steady purring sound at Sloane leaving her hair down just for us. Seriously, the woman is more beautiful than any woman has a right to be.“So ... you and Sloane? When did that happen?” Ellis asks after our first final.“Over the weekend,” I say. I knew the entire school would be buzzing about my claim on Sloane, and I was right. Everywhere I walk, people whisper, some not so subtly, about what it is that I see in her, what they might have missed about her, or the ones that cause me to growl, am I simply using her?“When were you planning to tell me, Alpha? I am your Beta.”I stop and look at Ellis. “When has my personal life ever mattered to you, Ellis? You’ve never cared about who I was dating before.”“This seems different. You’re different with Sloane.”“I like her a hell of a lot more than I’ve liked any other she-wolf.”“Are you sure about this Benedict?” he asks.“Am I sure about which pa

  • Forsaken by the Moon Goddess   Chapter 41: The Ultimatum

Benedict Winslow, IV“Beatrice, explain to me why you continue to insult the Hartwells by not including their two oldest children in your invitations to events in our home,” I say. I’m so fucking tired of dealing with this, of dealing with my mate.“We have a reputation to uphold, Benedict,” she begins, but I hold up my hand.“Stop. Now! Benedict has warned you. He spent all day yesterday at the Hartwells making sure that we are still at peace with them. You are going to cause a war with your hatred. This ends NOW, Beatrice. I am done. Let the past die. If I had known that you were going to grow into such an insipid harpy, I never would have taken you as chosen mate.”It’s harsh, I know. But honestly, she’s the reason I’m so tired. I thought, with time, she’d get over her hatred of Sawyer Clark and Althea Brenner. But once the truth of what happened came out, it was like it lit a fire of hatred and wrath inside my mate. That sickness has only festered over the years and has now been tu

  • Forsaken by the Moon Goddess   Chapter 40: The Surprising Response

SloaneAfter Benedict left, I was practically mauled by Slade to get information, then stalked by Scarlet until I finally called her back letting her know I was fine, that Benedict found me, that he talked ‘some sense’ into me, as she put it, and that he stayed for dinner.Scarlet squealed in delight and termed us The Hottest Couple Ever. The next morning before school, I stare at myself in the mirror. I’ve never worn makeup, I’ve never done anything with my hair except put it up in a ponytail. But for some reason, I feel the need to do something a little ... more this morning. If Benedict really is going to show the school that we’re dating, and after yesterday, I feel pretty confident that he will, I should look more the part of his girlfriend and less the part of the angry, warrior, Alpha female.I don’t have any makeup and I’m not feeling confident enough to ask Aunt Samara if I can borrow some of hers. If Scarlet were here, she would have me made up in no time, but she’s not. So,

  • Forsaken by the Moon Goddess   Chapter 39: Dinner Conversation

BenedictI was hoping that Sloane would be waiting for me in her room when I finished showering. Well, only partially hoping. That shower gel ... Holy Mother Moon Goddess! I know it’s not what makes Sloane smell as good as she does, but it’s a very close second. Having that scent surrounding me in the small space of her shower, seeing the evidence of Sloane in the shower, like a dark hair on the shower wall, or the bar of soap that had the marks of a washcloth on it, made my shower seem so much more intimate and my body responded accordingly.Being a gentleman, I didn’t do anything about my body’s response to her, but damn do I need a private moment ... or two ... or three. However, when I stepped out of her bathroom, she wasn’t there. I got dressed quickly and stepped out of her room, but once again, she wasn’t there. Since we were planning to have dinner together, I went downstairs, thinking I’d find her there. However, once again, she was nowhere to be seen.“Alpha Benedict, you loo

  • Forsaken by the Moon Goddess   Chapter 38: Samara's Advice

SloaneUncle Roman is right. Most wolves, even Alphas can’t keep up with me in warrior training for two hours straight. But Benedict did. I don’t care how many bruises he has on his body, he didn’t quit. And that says a lot about the man he is, and why he isn’t willing to give up on me. Benedict Winslow isn’t a quitter, about anything. After sending him into my shower with my honey, milk, and vanilla scented body wash, not the floral I teased him with, I ran into my Aunt Samara.“Come talk to me,” she says, looping her arm through mine and not giving me an opportunity to say no.She leads me to her room, closing the door and leading me to a couch. When we sit, she turns and faces me.“Sweetheart, I want to start by saying that I have always loved you like a daughter. I know that we are close in age, and I had hoped that you would at least see me as an older sister at some point. But you have always stayed very close to the vest. I’ve wanted to try and break through those barriers, but

  • Forsaken by the Moon Goddess   Chapter 37: Sparring with Sloane

BenedictSloane and I spend most of the morning and early afternoon studying for finals. I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting her to take me to her room. The smell of her bedroom ... is fucking intoxicating. It took me a bit of time to settle and begin studying, and by then, Sloane was already leaving my ass in the dust.I quicky caught up and began talking through what we’ve learned, what we thought would be on the exams, and discussing our differences of opinions about what we’ve learned.Sloane ordered lunch in the room and we continued to study. Honestly, studying like this, with her, I feel like I’m taking in more, remembering more than I would if I were just studying by myself.Just before four, Sloane stops and looks at me. “Ready to spar with me?”“Yeah. Let’s do it.”She gets her clothes and while she’s changing there’s a knock at her door. When I open it, Slade is standing there with a pair of workout shorts and a t-shirt.“Sloane said you needed sparring clothes. Don’t worry,
