Hayden’s POV

(Earlier, before the party)

Abby’s beauty hit me harder than I expected as she descended the stairs in that silver gown that clung to her like it was made for her alone.

For a moment, I forgot how to breathe. Maybe it was the slit that revealed just enough skin to make my pulse quicken, or maybe it was her quiet, sharp confidence.

I’d never seen her like this before… or maybe I had. Maybe she used to look this stunning before the memories were wiped from my mind.

Whatever it was, she looked breathtaking, and that scared me more than I’d admit.

I told Valentina to ride with Alex and had Abby ride with me instead. There were things I needed to ask her, things that had been gnawing at me since our last argument, the one that ended with her throwing a necklace at me. A necklace I apparently gave her.

The problem was… I didn’t remember it.
