Bloody liar
The press room inside Langford Manor was pure chaos. Flashbulbs snapped. Reporters shouted. Staff circulated champagne like it was a royal coronation.
And in the middle of it all, Tessa Monroe stood trembling, dressed in a glittering designer gown she hadn’t picked, makeup layered over her exhaustion, and four cameras pointed at her every flinch.
Ares Langford stood beside her, all charm and false smiles.
“She’s just overwhelmed with emotion,” he said smoothly to the crowd. “Motherhood looks good on her.”
Tessa blinked through the harsh lights, her knees wobbling. She hadn’t slept in two days. Her stitches throbbed. Her breasts ached from nursing. Her babies, her babies were with strangers, and she was in full glam, posing like a trophy.
Her stomach turned.
Ares reached for her waist to steady her, still smiling at the crowd. She recoiled slightly but not enough for anyone to notice.
The crowd clapped. Champagne corks popped. The headlines were already writing themselves:
“From Party Animal to Papa of the Year: Ares Langford’s Redemption Begins with Four Little Feet.”

Later that evening, the after party continued. But Ares dragged her to the side once the guests thinned out.
“You looked like you were about to faint out there.” He said, his voice was gruff.
“I was,” Tessa muttered. “Give me a break, will you?”
“You embarrassed me.”
“I’m bleeding, Ares. What do you expect?”
His mouth tightened. “We have a deal. If you want that money, you need to hold it together.”
She looked at him, her voice barely above a whisper. “You still think money is more important than my life?”
Before he could answer, a butler interrupted.
“Sir, the babies are running a low grade fever. The pediatrician wants to run a few routine tests.”
“Tests?” Ares frowned.
“Just a precaution, sir.”
Tessa’s entire body stiffened. “What kind of tests?”
“Blood panels, mostly. Immunity, infection markers. Nothing to worry about.”
Her face went pale.
Ares noticed immediately. “You okay?”
She nodded too fast. “Fine. Just tired.”
But her heart was already pounding.

That night, as the tests were being run and the babies finally slept, Tessa sat alone in the private lounge. Her mind drifted helplessly back to the night that started everything.
A New Year’s Eve party.
A blackout club in the city.
Strobe lights. Masks.
One dance. One drink. One night she tried to forget.
She hadn’t seen his face.
But she remembered the sharp jawline and perfume that was seducing.
The voice that whispered, “You don’t need to know my name. Just let go for one night.”
She’d been lonely. Desperate. Curious.
She never asked who he was. Never knew, never saw him again.
Now another guy showed up months later in a hospital hallway with a cop and a lie.
She never planned for this to happen, but after he offered her a million dollars and signed the birth certificates?
What was she supposed to do?
She buried her face in her hands, whispering, “God… what have I done? How did my life turn out this bad?”

The next morning, Ares walked into the kitchen, sipping espresso, scrolling through social media when a hospital envelope was slid onto the counter.
“Preliminary results, sir,” the butler said. “Doctor said there’s nothing alarming… but you might want to take a look.”
His coffee hit the floor. He reluctantly collected the results, his hands shaking. He dismissed the butler.
The moment he was alone, he tore the results and flushed them down the sink. “I’ll pay the doctor a visit letter.”
Stranded“Where is she, Chloe?” Julian’s voice cut through the early morning silence, low and urgent, as his eyes darted around the empty cabin.Chloe swallowed hard, rubbing her palms nervously against the hem of her nightgown. “I—I don’t know what you mean,” she stammered, her gaze fixed stubbornly on the floorboards, refusing to meet his eyes.Ares stepped forward, towering over her, his chest rising and falling with barely restrained fury. His hair was unkempt from sleep, his jaw tight, and in his stormy eyes lived both panic and anger. “Don’t play games with me,” he growled. “Where is Tessa?”Chloe bit her lip, her throat working as she forced herself to look up at him. “She’s gone,” she whispered finally. “She… she left. With a man.”Julian’s head snapped toward her, disbelief written all over his face. “What?”Chloe nodded quickly, seizing on the lie, though her voice quivered. “Yes. In the middle of the night. I woke up, and I—I saw her. She ran out… a man was waiting. They l
Please help me“Where are you going in the middle of the night?”The driver’s voice was low, gravelly, and thick with suspicion as Tessa sat frozen in the passenger seat of the dented pickup truck. Her lips trembled as she tried to form words, her chest still rising and falling from the desperate sprint she’d taken down the dark Pinewood road.“I—I need to get to the city,” she whispered, her throat hoarse, her body trembling. “Please, sir, my babies…they’re waiting for me. I just need to get away from here.”The man grunted, shifting the gear, his eyes fixed on the road ahead as though she hadn’t spoken at all. His silence pressed down on her, heavy, unsettling. Tessa swallowed hard, forcing herself to speak louder, desperate to be heard.“You don’t understand. I’ve been trapped. My friend doesn’t know I’m gone. My children—they’re just infants. Four of them. I can’t…” Her voice cracked as tears slipped down her cheeks.Still, no answer. The headlights cut through the woods like dag
Running back to my babies“Ares, we need to talk about her.”Lady Bianca’s voice cut through the quietness of the marble floored sitting room. She sat upright on the edge of the couch, her hands clasped tightly on her lap, her posture dignified and commanding as ever. Marcus stood by the liquor cabinet, pouring himself a glass of brandy, though his eyes never left his son. The weight of their scrutiny bore heavily on Ares, but he didn’t flinch.Julian, leaning casually against the mantlepiece, caught Ares’s eye and gave a subtle nod. The plan was already in motion.Ares let out a controlled breath and lowered himself into the armchair opposite his mother. “Mother… Father… what exactly do you want to know?”Bianca’s sharp gaze softened only slightly. “Don’t play games with me, Ares. Where is your baby mama? Something’s changed. Why haven’t I seen Tessa?”Marcus swirled the amber liquid in his glass, his tone blunt. “You threatened that poor innocent girl, didn’t you?”The name echoed t
Regret in your tearsThe call ended with a sharp click that seemed to echo in Ares’s ears. His pulse raced as he lowered the phone, jaw tight, eyes gleaming with the storm that had been building since he realized Tessa was gone. Across the room, Julian paced like a caged lion, his normally calculated composure unraveling with each step.“Are they in position?” Julian demanded, pausing only to rake a hand through his dark hair.“Yes,” Ares muttered, voice taut. “But it’s not enough. I want every unit in the city, every pair of eyes and ears…hell, every camera on the damn grid searching. Tessa and Chloe couldn’t have vanished into thin air.”Julian’s eyes flickered with frustration. “She’s scared, Ares. You pushed too hard, and now she’s running. And if she’s running, it means she doesn’t trust us.”Ares shot him a glare sharp enough to slice through steel. “Trust isn’t the point. Safety is. If she thinks she can hide from me, from her responsibility, she’s wrong. I’ll find her. And whe
Running The walls were closing in.That’s how it felt for Tessa as she stood in front of the mirror in the guest room Lady Bianca assigned to her. She could still feel the soreness of childbirth in her bones but here she was, stuffed into a designer gown. “You need to leave,” Chloe whispered from behind, pacing round the room. “Tonight…” Tessa turned to her, confused. “What are you talking about? Leave to why? Why would I leave?” “You need to run away. You can’t stay here anymore.” Chloe said.Tessa’s lips parted, but no sound came out. Chloe stepped closer, her voice and expression stern. “You said it yourself, Tessa. You don’t trust him. You’re afraid he’s going to throw you out any moment. What if that day is tomorrow? Where will you go to? The dorm? Impossible. How long can you survive with three million? You have student loans to repay.”“But my babies…” Tessa stuttered blinking her eyes in disapproval. “Exactly! The babies! How will you take care of them? You’ve got a house
A bad dayThe engagement party was underway — live orchestra, champagne towers, diamond draped guests, and a swarm of reporters buzzing about the “miracle”dad and his mysterious fiancée.Tessa Monroe stood at the top of the staircase, her heart pounding. The glittering gown scratched her skin. Her heels pinched. But the worst pain came from knowing her quadruplets, two boys, two girls were just two floors below with nannies… and not one of them had been brought to see her all evening. This wasn’t an engagement. It was a trap. A cage.Downstairs, Ares Langford shook hands and posed for photos, laughing with a senator, smiling for cameras. He looked like the king of the world.Until he saw Julian Reyes enter.Julian, his best friend since prep school. Partner in crime and confidant.Julian’s expression darkened the moment he spotted him. He didn’t even grab a drink before charging straight through the ballroom.“What the hell is this?” he snapped, gripping Ares by the arm. “Engaged?”Ar
