Draven POV

Two minutes into the drive, I was already too restless to remain behind the wheel. My hands kept tightening around it, my thoughts moving faster than the car could carry me, until I finally pulled over and switched off the engine.

I needed to race to LongClaws, not drive there.

I got out, took off my suit and tie, and stepped into the woods.

The distance between Arctic Moon and LongClaws should have taken roughly thirty minutes on four legs, but I made it in considerably less. By th

George Hunt (Third-person POV)He still couldn't believe the guy got Layla pregnant.George was prepared to hear whatever she had to say. He was even prepared to give her room to admit that she was confused. But if she was thinking of returning to Draven, he intended to make sure she understood what that choice could cost her. He had every intention of laying out the logical reasons why she shouldn't trust Draven Darkwood with her heart again. He only needed her to walk through the door. After another minute passed, George picked up his phone and stood. He would go outside and find out what was keeping her. As he headed for the entrance, his thoughts returned to his brief conversation with Draven. The man knew about the silver berries. That alone changed things. If Draven was still the person George had known growing up, he wouldn't take an accusation like that lightly. And if the evidence proved Gordon Voss had deliberately harmed Layla, there was zero chance Draven would go ahead w

Layla POV"Yes," he said. Then he took a step closer, and I instinctively leaned back. Something about the way he looked at me made my chest prickle, though I couldn't have explained why."You know me. I'm..." He paused, studying my face as if waiting for recognition to dawn. "I'm Darion's Beta. At least, I would be if he wasn't such a coward. A chicken shit!"His eyes flashed gold, the sudden change startling me. For a moment, his expression twisted with such obvious anger that I wondered what this Darion had done to him. Then, just as quickly, he forced a smile that did nothing to soften his features."Oh, I don't know any Darion. You've got the wrong person. Please step out of my way."He didn't move.I studied his face again, searching for something that might help me place him. Another wave of familiarity washed over me, so strong that I almost felt dizzy. Even his voice was deeply familiar. His features, his mannerisms, the way he said my name too... all of it seemed to stir mem

Layla POVAiden wouldn't stop talking about his daddy.I hadn't seen my son this happy and excited since he was born. Every few minutes, he found another reason to mention Alpha Draven, something he'd said, something he'd done, or something he wanted to show him the next time he came. I'd spent so many years worrying that Aiden might hate me when he eventually learned about his father that seeing this happiness should have been enough to quiet every fear I'd carried. It had. For now.Unfortunately, it had also left me wishing my son would talk about anything else.My mind was already doing a good enough job of reminding me about the past day without having Aiden constantly adding to it. Every mention of his father brought Draven back into my thoughts, and I was already more confused than I'd ever been about what I was supposed to do next.George had called that morning after I dropped Aiden off at school. I hadn't answered. When I returned to my office, I saw the message he'd sent and

The distance between Arctic Moon and LongClaws should have taken roughly thirty minutes on four legs, but I made it in considerably less. By the time I reached the LongClaws border, the anger I'd been trying to contain had settled into something cold and far more focused.George's Deputy Gamma was nearby. He noticed me almost immediately and approached with a surprised but friendly expression."Alpha Darkwood. What a surprise.""Hey, Gamma Norman. Is your Alpha in?""Sure. You're actually lucky. He's getting ready to go out."He immediately linked someone nearby, presumably to announce my arrival, and I waited at the edge of the woods.

Draven POVMy parents wanted to know what debt I was talking about, but telling them would have been unwise. They didn't know about Aiden yet, for one thing, and the moment they learned that Layla had a son who was also my heir, everything would change. At best, they would try to confront Gordon themselves. He would deny everything, of course, and by the time I got to him, he'd have had enough warning to cover his tracks. At worst, my parents would believe his version over Layla's, especially after everything that had happened seven years ago and the allegations that had been made against her.I wasn't prepared to give Gordon that advantage."You'll find out when the time is right," I told them.I turned toward the door, but before I could leave, I stopped and looked back at them."I need you both to promise me something. You won't go to Gordon and ask him any questions. Leave this to me. When I'm ready, you'll know exactly what this is about."They exchanged a reluctant look befor

Draven POVDuty won.It was a few minutes past seven-thirty when we said goodbye in front of her house. Aiden stood beside Layla, looking up at me with those bright eyes that still felt strangely unreal whenever I remembered they belonged to my son."You'll come tomorrow?" he asked."Of course." I crouched slightly so we were closer to eye level. "But you know your dad is very busy. If something comes up and you don't see me, we'll talk on the phone, okay?"He nodded, apparently satisfied with that answer.I straightened and looked at Layla. For a moment, neither of us spoke. She seemed about to say something, then glanced away again."Goodnight, Layla.""Goodnight."I waited till they were inside, then drove out of town toward Arctic Moon. The image of young Layla kept me company for most of the journey. My mind gradually shifted from the too-brief moment of intimacy we'd shared to the things she'd told me about her childhood, and before long, I found myself reliving the first time
