The next morning was Ellyse’s follow up check-up with Dr. Sanchez, Kai sat beside her, unusually quiet as he glanced between her and the closed examination room door.

He had insisted on accompanying her to the follow-up appointment despite his busy schedule. Ellyse hadn’t argued. She knew he was worried about the baby, and perhaps she was a little comforted by having someone familiar beside her.
